  1. Jake, that would probably make the cruise even more fun. Lenda
  2. Good morning from a cooler central Texas where it is mostly sunny. It is 78F and feels like 78F with 93% humidity and a dew point of 75F. There is an 8mph wind from the south. Our high is supposed to be 97F, an improvement over the last several days. There is not much on the agenda. One good thing about our lack of rain even with watering our grass is not growing as fast. Instead of my normal Saturday mowing, I think I'll wait until tomorrow or Monday when it is supposed to be even cooler. We had a slight cool front come through yesterday afternoon. and it dropped the temperature to 91F. By the time I took my ride, it was almost chilly, at least, compared to the last several nights. Knives are very useful both in cooking and for other purposes. We have a waffle iron, but it hasn't been used recently. Add me to the list that was sad to see Pluto demoted. I like the Harold Wilson quote. I like to think I'm an optimist who is also practical. Pulled pork is good, but we prefer to smoke ours with a dry rub instead of using a slow cooker. I was surprised to see a Texas pulled pork recipe since most barbeque in Texas is beef. Having lived in both South Carolina and North Carolina, we learned barbeque there is pork. I haven't had a Harvey Wallbanger, but have enjoyed screwdrivers on occasion. The wine sounds nice, and we used to drink Grenache wines about 30 years ago. We have been to two ports in Malaysia, but not to today's port. Three good days in history, and one not good day for the US. The establishment of NATO is probably the most important day. @kazu Jacqui, I'm sorry your apartment won't be ready as quickly as previously thought. It is good to know they will make an adjustment to your account. That was good news from your foot care nurse, even though she thinks the appointment with the vascular surgeon is a good idea. @aliaschief Bruce, I'm glad the weekend is going so well. Enjoy the Barbershop performances. @puppycanducruise I agree with you about Pluto. @smitty34877 Terry, I'm glad you are able to relax while your DB is there. I'm glad that he can stimulate her mind and get her to laugh. @cunnorl Welcome home, Charlene. I hope you make your flight with time to spare. @St Pete Cruiser Welcome home, and safe travels today. Lenda
  3. @Crazy For Cats Jake, I hope the cruise is everything you and Juan want it to be. I've cruised with the three other Dailyites, and have one request. Please try to keep them out of trouble. 😉 Lenda
  4. @Sharon in AZ Sharon, I know you will have a great cruise. Lenda
  5. @dfish Debbie, I know three Dailyite Musketeers along with Jake and Juan will have a wonderful time. Lenda
  6. Annie, thank you for the pictures of Prince Rupert. It looks a lot better on a sunny day. Terri, I'm glad you are looking into what help is available for in your area. Lenda
  7. To really see the very far north and come close to the polar ice cap, you should do the cruise that includes Spitzbergen. They used to do it once a year in late July or early August.
  8. Carolyn, that is indeed good news. Elizabeth, I'm so sorry he is not doing better. It's so hard when our fur babies are not feeling well. Nancy, I'm glad your DB sounds so much better. I hope he rescheduled his surgeon appointment, and that everything will work out this time. Lenda
  9. Good afternoon after a long day. So much for not going into triple digits. It's 100F and feels like 110F. We have a 14mph wind from the south, so while it's hot, it was not too bad out for a few minutes at a time. The traffic to Dallas and from Dallas to Fort Worth was not heavy, somebody let all the crazy drivers loose today. We had many people cutting from the outside lane to the far inside lane without signaling or really looking. Fortunately, the other drivers were paying attention, even though most of the traffic was going about 20mph over the speed limit. The one that takes the cake was at a red light in Dallas. We were the first car at the light, and a truck was next to us in the left turn lane, only he did not turn left. Instead, he sped around us and through the intersection. Just glad DH was not hurrying through the intersection. And people wonder why we like living in a small rural town. 😁 The good news is the shunt is working, but the bad news it is working too well. The simplest way to explain it is, if too much fluid is drained, the brain can pull away from the skull which can cause an even bigger problem. The last CT scan showed some space there, so the nurse practioner reset the shunt back to where it was originally, which worked. We'll see her in two weeks. The side trip to Fort Worth was partially successful. One watch was ready, but the other one was not back yet. The stop at Costco was frustrating since the register would not take the debit card I've been using there for 26 years, and which I've used at least three times in the last four months. With DH sitting in the car, I had to leave the items, and I'll figure it out when I'm not so tired. I'm ready for more of our calm, boring days. Joy, I'm glad your DS's incisions looked good. I'm sorry your friends flights were delayed, but at least, it's after the cruise not getting to the cruise. Annie, congratulations on the sales. I hope Momma Munchkin is doing all right. Katherine, thank you for the pictures. I loved the anniversary swans, and that was so nice of your stewards. Carolyn, thanks for the pictures of Prince Rupert. We docked so early that morning, in the rain, nothing was open. We stopped once to empty the melted ice water from the pan in the refrigerator. All propane appliances have to be turned off on the ferry, so we needed a block of ice to keep the refrigerator cool, and it worked. Terri, I'm sorry things are not going well for you, but I'm glad you had a chance to talk to DH's doctor. While you may not want to move as fast as he suggests, it might possibly be better for both of you. It's a hard decision, especially when it is all up to you, and we're here for you no matter what you decide. Charlene, I'm glad the cruise was so good. Good luck tomorrow, and safe travels. @dfish Debbie and Sue, and @Sharon in AZ Sharon, I'm glad you are enjoying your day in Boston, and are having good weather. @Haljo1935 Elizabeth, I hope there was improvement with your kitty overnight. Lenda
  10. Jack, I'm glad your DSIL's surgery went well. Terry, I'm happy your DB will be there this weekend to help you. And there is the added bonus he's bringing dinner. Lenda
  11. We have been to Prince Rupert on a ship, but not on a BHB. We arrived there on the Alaska Marine Highway ferry Matanuska in August 2011. It was very early on a rainy morning, and I only have one picture as we approached the ferry terminal. The Matanuska in two ports. The first is in Haines, AK, where we boarded. Lenda
  12. Good very early morning from a still dark central Texas where it is 83F and already feels like 92F. Currently the humidity is 83% with a dew point of 76F. It looks like yesterday's forecast for today was wrong as our high will be 101F. We're heading out about 8am to make DH's routine follow up appointment at UTSW at 10. When we leave there, we'll be heading to Forth Worth to pick the watches at the jewelry story and a stop at Costco. I hope we are home before it gets too hot. Someone else can enjoy my Cuban Sandwich. I had one on a ship, and found the pork way too dry. I vaguely remember the Gossamer Condor's flight. I hope my inner nerd isn't too nerdy. The Abraham Lincoln quote is true. The meal might worth making, but I'd like to see the recipes. We'll pass on the drink and the wine. We have been to Prince Rupert once on the Alaska Marine Highway ferry Matanuska. This day in 1305 was not a good day for William Wallace. I remember seeing the first picture of earth from space, and earth being called the Big Blue Marble. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, safe travels to your DS as he returns from Singapore. @grapau27 Graham, as always thank you for researching two of the days today. @Crazy For Cats Jake, I hope all goes well with the project, and you can finish it today. @Vict0riann Ann, I hope all goes well at your appointment today. I also hope Pat is feeling much, much better. @kazu Jacqui, I hope it doesn't rain too hard while you are taking care of appointments today. Lenda
  13. @AroundWithMAPTravels Melanie, I hope your birthday is wonderful. Lenda
  14. Ann, I'm glad Pat is doing better, and I hope he is released soon. I'm glad your oncologist can see you tomorrow. Susan, I'm glad your driveway and lawn were not affected by the tree roots. Dixie, oh no. I hope the toe heals quickly. Elizabeth, I hope your sweet cat can be helped, and you don't have to make the difficult decision. Do they offer a payment plan? Carolyn, thanks for sharing Rick Steves' positive post on FB. I noticed he didn't include hospital food in the possible positive memories. I'm sorry you may have to miss the Beach Boys concert. Lenda
  15. Joy, I'm glad your sister is doing well even if a bit groggy. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to forget something. In my case, it a pajamas. I borrowed one of DH's t-shirts and added a "slip" that is made like a pair of shorts. Caron, believe it or not, but these Texans have been to the Minnesota State Fair, in I think 2004. Our younger DD was getting her masters at the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. Her apartment was on the corner of Larpenteur and Snelling, so we could walk to the fair. We tried all sorts of food, but she wanted us to try the fried cheese curds, which were good but salty. I just looked on Google Maps, and her apartment building is long gone. Carolyn, I was sorry to read that Rick Steves has prostate cancer. I hope it is slow growing and that he can have a good outcome. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I forgot to mention earlier that the bird in your picture is a white stork. @doobieb Debbie, I also forgot to say I'm glad your friend Leesa is doing well and does not need any further treatment. @Vict0riann Ann, I hope Pat is feeling better today, and that you and your DD are doing well. A big thank you to everyone who has posted pictures of Rotterdam today. I've enjoyed seeing them. I am not naming names because I'd probably leave someone out. Lenda
  16. Good morning from a mostly clear central Texas where we have a 9mph wind from the ESE to help keep things more comfortable. It is 79F with 84% humidity and a dew point of 74F. The predicted high is 102F, so after a quick run to get donuts, I'll stay inside until about sunset just after 8pm. It's been a while since I had a fresh peach. DH bought a bao when we were in Chinatown in Yokohama. He liked it, but after a small bite, I let him have the rest. Surgical oncologist are important, but if I meet one, I hope it will be at a social occasion or on a BHB. I agree with the Samuel Smalls quote. I made French onion soup once, and it was a lot of work and did not turn out well. DH orders it often on BHBs. We'll pass on the drink and the wine. While we have been to The Netherlands many times, we've never been to Rotterdam. I am enjoying every ones' pictures today. Thank all of you for sharing them with us. Three good days in history that are worth celebrating. @superoma Eva, please wish your DH at VERY HAPPY 79TH BIRTHDAY for us. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, this is our last day of triple digits for awhile. This time of year, we don't expect rain. Our rainy season is in the spring. @grapau27 Graham, thanks for the explanation of the days. @TiogaCruiser Laura, I've seen fresh eggs at the omelet station in the Lido for years, and this year they had them at the main breakfast station, just not that many. I hope you have a great day in Saint John. @puppycanducruise Melanie, I hope a sore arm is all the reaction you will have from the shingles vaccine. When I got my first one, the pharmacist told me if I had any reaction, even just a sore arm, to wait as close to the end of the six months between shots as that would help lessen the reaction. @kazu Jacqui, I know seeing the sold sign was bittersweet, but I loved your realtor's reaction. @Heartgrove Best wishes to your DSIL for a successful surgery today. I'm sorry she has to wait until later in the day, and has to go without pain meds before hand. @Cruzin Terri Terri, I'm sorry the gave you an ophthalmologist appointment at the wrong office. Good luck with your DH's neurologist appointment today. @NextOne Edi, I'm glad you are doing well after your surgery, and that your DS is taking such good care of you. Rest and enjoy the help while it lasts. @doobieb Debbie, I'm glad your DH is feeling better. Enjoy your time with your DGS. Now, it's time to start the laundry.
  17. @Lady Hudson Katherine, I hope you have a wonderful cruise. Lenda
  18. @grapau27 and @Paw13 Pauline and Graham I hope you have a wonder 43rd anniversary. Lenda
  19. @dfish Debbie and Sue, and @Sharon in AZ Sharon, wishing you safe travels to Boston today. Have a fun day seeing the town tomorrow. Lenda
  20. Wow! Such beautiful pictures. We took the train 19 years ago. Such beautiful scenery in the area.
  21. Tnank you, Brenda . I wish I always know the right answer. With this dentist it is 3 months for the impressions and about foru weeks for the final visit with the post and crown installation. With my first implant it was four months wait. Lenda
  22. Susan, I had the deep cleaning last year, and it wasn't too bad. It was mainly painless since she put a numbing agent on the areas she was working on. She said I probably wouldn't have to do it again. I'm sorry the thrift store is such a mess, after all your hard work to get the shelter and thrift store running on an even keel. Thanks for the interesting information. Joy, I'm glad Bonnie is able to manage the pain and glad she can sleep. Glad you got the luggage to the UPS store. Sandi, I'm glad your twin is has figured out a way to do her hair, and that her DH is keeping her fed. I'm staying inside too except early morning if I need to run errands, and about sunset for a golf cart ride. Karen, I'm glad you figured out how to change the beeping battery, and that you DS got more baseboards and the backdoor trim installed. I hope your friend feels better soon, and I hope you stay well. Lenda
  23. Ann, I hope they can help Pat, and that he feels better soon. Lenda
  24. Good afternoon from a hot central Texas. It is already 96F, feeling like 104F, at 1pm. I'm glad I'm inside today with not errands or appointments. Ann, I'm sorry Pat is feeling bad and had to be taken to the hospital, and the you have a headache and your DD has a fever. I hope all of you feel better soon. I know you are disappointed about the cruise, but with the CT scan on September 23 and radiation beginning on October 3, you will have all that behind you soon. Roy, I'm sorry you are feeling bad after your perio appointment. Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy the Beach Boys concert Friday night. Sharon, safe travels tomorrow and to Debbie @dfish and Sue. Brenda, I'm glad your oral surgery went well. If they didn't tell you, it is a good idea to rinse your mouth will warm salt water beginning the day after the surgery. It helps with the soreness and healing. Love the pictures of the blue jay. Vanessa, I hope the x-ray doesn't show anything serious, but I'm glad the doctor is checking every possibility. Lenda
