  1. @luvteaching Karen, I hope you and Karen have a wonderful cruise. Lenda
  2. Brenda, it might have helped that it was the delay was not weather related. Also we both had tge ship crud and I could barely talk. We felt much better after a good night's sleep. Lenda
  3. Just went for a golf cart ride, and it was the most comfortable out it's been in weeks. Sadly, it will probably bee weeks before it's this nice out again. Sandi, safe travel for your DS as he heads to Texas, and a safe flight for Ren and your DDIL Sunday. In the US, weather delays and cancellations mean the airlines don't have to pay for meals, hotels or other transportation home. Once we did get a hotel and meal vouchers when a flight was really late getting to our first stop, even though there was a later flight. I think the Delta rep took pity on us when he learned we'd still have a two-hour drive from Dallas to our home. Lenda
  4. We not only reached the predicted high, but went to 100F this afternoon. We got a bit of rain, just enough to wet the driveway, and it cooled us back down to 94F which feels like 104F. Supposedly, we have a 12mph wind from the NE, but the neighbor's flag is just hanging there. At least, the humidity is sown to 49% with a dew point of 72F. The skies re still pretty cloudy, but looking at the radar future cast, all the rain will go around us. Paul, I hope everyone follows the evacuation order, and all are safe. The propane leak is very concerning. I also hope your area dos not have many problems from the storm. Sandi, you are making progress. As far as my opinion goes, I'd just follow the directions for the cat's mouth. Lenda
  5. Karen, I had to smile that your heat alert did not go above 85F. We'd be happy to have that as our high, but will have to wait until late September or October. Brenda, thanks for the pictures of the owls. Carolyn, thanks for the pictures of Amber Cove. I'm sorry you had to spend so much time dodging the hawkers. Lenda
  6. Jack, I know we're all sad today, but grateful that Sam went peacefully and was treated with dignity. Lenda
  7. A late good morning from a slightly overcast central Texas. It is already 86F at 9:30 am and feels like 95F, which is predicted to be our high this afternoon. The humidity is 67% with a dew point of 74F and a 6mph wind from the ENE. There is also a prediction of scattered thunderstorms late afternoon into early evening. I hope we get some of the rain. Not much on the agenda except staying cool, which is the main activity in Texas in the summer. When I worked, I had some great coworkers and some that were so-so, and I'll celebrate the great ones. We could learn a lot from the indigenous people of the world. Veep Day is an interesting day to celebrate. Surprise is not always a great gift, and I disagree with the quote. The salad sounds good, especially the last two recipes, but I won't be making it since DH is not a pasta salad fan. The sangria and the red wine would be nice to try. We have not been to Amber Cove. The diesel engine is a good design even today. I'm not a Betty Boop fan. The second atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki was probably necessary to end WWII, but still a sad day. @grapau27 Graham, thanks for the explanation of Veep Day. @LambKnuckles Lambie, thanks for the pictures of Amber Cove. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I'm glad you heard something about your plane fare refund. It's interesting that when we charge something, they get the money right away, but refunds take a long time. @kazu Jacqui, you're making good progress and I'm glad you are having some help. Your flower pictures have brightened my day. @aliaschief Bruce, I'm sorry the biopsies showed carcinomas, but glad they are not melanomas. @1ANGELCAT I hope you stay safe and tornado free while Debby is around. @ottahand7 Nancy, thanks for the great pictures. @marshhawk Annie, congratulations on the sale. Enjoyed the Amber Cove pictures. @Mr. Boston Have a safe flight today. @RMLincoln Maureen, I hope you get the phone plan arranged. Safe travels to the Boston area tomorrow. @lindaler Linda, I'm sorry there was an emergency which may impact your cruise. I hope your DS can return in time, or that you can get someone to take over for you. @ger_77 Gerry, I'm glad everything went well at Gord's internment. I hope the smoke clears again today. @durangoscots Susan, great news about the rain yesterday. Hope you get more today. Lenda
  8. Jack, you and your family are in my thoughts as you say goodbye to Sam. While you will be hurting, Sam, having gotten the greatest gift of love, will be pain free going over the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for sharing a last picture of such a wonderful, handsome dog. Lenda
  9. Thanks for the picture. Nice to see it today to go with the drink of the day. Carol, that is good news you are over the fatigue and have your energy back. Vanessa, I'm sorry the unsteadiness returned today. I'm glad you were able to join your BFF this afternoon. I have enjoyed seeing all the different pictures from Corfu, and in case I would forget someone, thank you all for sharing. Lenda Lenda
  10. Elizabeth, it looks like the Astros got their revenge by winning the Silver Boot for the eighth year in a row. Gerry, I'm sorry about the garage door opener not fitting. I know Ollie will find comfort with you conducting the service for Gord's service. Debbie, sometimes we need a groan button. Debbie and Sharon, be prepared to wait longer than expected. Unless things have changed over the years, these inspections can take longer if they find something that needs fixing. They will have to reinspect those items. I hope all goes smoothly, and the wait for the inspection to end is what is predicted. Also, I hope they have the check-in/boarding process working smoothly. Lenda
  11. Now for our three stops in Corfu in 2019 on Veendam. The first stop we rented a car and drove around the island. The other times we took the Ho-Ho and did one loop each time. Our drive on July 11, 2019, took us to Roda and Palaiokastraitsa and across the island. Heading out of town Roda Some cruisers stop for coffee or beer, but we stop for gelato when in Europe. Palaiokastraitsa Some random pictures from the two Ho-Ho loops. A street market There were a lot of ruins along the first loop and this is one. An old windmill For the garden club A sign on the new fort In town We wanted to go through the Achillean Palace, but when we saw the line for tickets, we got back on the Ho-Ho. Drive along the coast Lenda
  12. We have been to Corfu seven times, all on BHBs. I'll divide the pictures into two posts. The first post will be from our Noordam III 2002 and 2004 stops and our 2016 and 2019 stops on Prinsendam. In 2019, we stopped in Corfu three times on b2b2b cruises on Veendam, and I'll share them in another post. The coast from the Noordam III in 2002 The view from a hilltop restaurant on the other side of the island in 2002 A church we saw in 2002 The old town and part fo the open area in front of the old town from various stops. The area around the old fort and the entrance to the fort. Lenda
  13. Good morning from a sunny central Texas where it is 78F heading to a high of 101F. The next three days will be cooler with the highs in the upper 90sF. We take any cooler temperatures that we can get. There's not much on the agenda except staying cool. It is good to be back after having our internet down for the entire neighborhood from early afternoon yesterday until sometime between 10:30pm and 5:30 am today. Digital Nomad Day is a good one for those who like to travel while working. DH was a digital nomad at times before it was easy to stay in contact, but he managed. Isn't everyday International Cat Day? Creating something lasting is always good. I do not agree with the Oscar Wilde quote. I enjoy reading, but rarely reread a book. There are just too many books waiting to be read, and so little time to read them all. It's been a long time since we made beef and vegetable kababs. In addition to onions and mushrooms, we added summer yellow squash and zucchini. We'll pass on the drink, but the wine sounds good. We have been to Corfu many times on BHBs. Galileo's telescope opened the heavens to early astronomers. The 1969 picture of The Beatles is still great. @seagarsmoker I'm glad you missed the worst of Debby, but got some much needed rain. It's always nice when work goes well and you enjoy it. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, when I had both shingles vaccine shots, my arm was red, warm and tender for several days. Glad your DH renewed his driver's license without any problems. @grapau27 Again, thank you for the explanations of the days, Graham. @kazu Jacqui, I'm glad your feeling better, and I agree that stress and pain can cause all sorts of physical problems. Glad Ivan was such a good boy yesterday. I think it is his way of thanking you for your love and making his live so very much better. You are good for each other. As usual, I loved the flower pictures. @Cruzin Terri Terri, I'm glad you came through the worst of Debby without any flooding or other problems. @dfish Debbie, I'm glad you got a good nights sleep. Enjoy the family outing at the Children's Zoo. @Heartgrove Jack, thanks for the pictures of cute but sleepy Poppy and her mother. @kochleffel Paul, thanks for the information about the history of the Rob Roy. While researching my family tree, I discovered that members of Clan MacGregor (or McGregor) and maybe even Rob Roy were very distant ancestors. Because of the clan's brutality, the clan was banned by King James IV and remained banned for about 150 years. @marshhawk Annie, I'm sorry you are losing hours on the California campaign, and especially hours on your sales day. I'm glad Jersey is settling into her furever home. Lenda
  14. An early good morning, after finally catching up on yesterday's Daily. Our entire neighborhood lost internet service very early yesterday afternoon. It was still out when we went to bed; so I was thrilled to find it working this morning. Of course the first thing I did was catch up on the Daily. Jack, thanks for sharing Poppy's name. What a nice way to honor you DD's doctor. Gerry, glad you're got the new garage door opener. Carolyn, I hope ypu are feeling better today. Paul, glad your TCM practioner helped yesterday. Tina, that looks a lot like the crayfish boils we used to attend in The Woodlands. Maureen, I'm glad you got everything lined up for your cruise. I can understand what it was like to do at the last minute, but we had even less time. We booked a cruise at 2pm the day before the cruise, and got everything done. Then, drove to the port the next morning. Enjoy your cruise. Lenda
  15. In 2008, we boarded the Prinsendam in Amsterdam for b2b cruises to the Mediterrean and the Black Sea. One of our ports in Portugal was the lovely town of Portimao. Prinsendam was able to dock at the cruise terminal which is on the Arade River. Our first stop that day was in the main part of town where we walked around for a while. Façade of the Baroque Church of the College of Jesuits - 'Igreja do Colegio dos Jesuitas' inaugurated in 1707. We then went to the beach area. This is the Bella Vista Hotel and Spa. Avenida das Comunidades Lusíadas The beach area which seemed very popular. These last pictures were taken from the Prinsendam as we sailed to the next port. Castelo Arade Lenda
  16. Good hot, sunny morning from central Texas. It is already 86F at 9:15 am with no wind, and a much lower humidity at 59% with a dew point of 70F. I had be outside about 45 minutes ago to put the car covers back on two cars, and it was already hot then. The predicted high is 102F and even hotter tomorrow. I will be staying inside trying to keep cool. Particularly preposterous packaging can also mean not enough in some cases. We've had refills of shower gel in plastic pouches that were shipped in bags, and it's a mess when the package is mashed down in transit and the shower gel leaks out. We've enjoyed many of the professional speakers on various cruises. Purple hearts are a nice way to honor the military personnel who have been wounded in action. The Dennis Miller quote is weird, but about par of that comedian. The white bean soup would be nice on a much, much cooler day. We'll pass on the drink and the wine. We were in Portimao in 2008 on Prinsendam, and enjoyed our day ashore. I had a transistor radio in the mid 1950s, but it was not a Sony. I also remember the daredevil walking between the twin towers. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, your DD's tree is wonderful again. I'm sorry her foot is bothering her again. I hope it is much better by the time of the wedding. @dobiemom Marcia, you've had a lot of excitement at work lately. I hope it returns to being somewhat boring. @grapau27 Graham, I hope there are no problems with the protests in Sunderland and Newcastle today. @cat shepard Ann, I agree with your thoughts about Elizabeth's @Haljo1935 and Annie's @marshhawk bosses, except, I'm not sure I would call them managers, more like bullies because they have power. @kazu Jacqui, I hope you can get over the tummy issues, and that the doctor's have a plan for the pain that does not require surgery. Your flowers are beautiful. @Cruzin Terri Terri, I'm happy you are doing all right and still have power and wifi. Thanks for checking in and letting us know how things are going. @dfish Debbie, I'm sorry you did not sleep well last night. I hope your pest guy gets there soon, and finds where the little varmints are getting in the house. @aliaschief Bruce, two people working together can handle removing a tree. Some people in their 70s can really surprise you. @tjcox9 Thanks for the pictures of Portimao. We would love to go back there someday. @marshhawk Annie, I hope the doctors can find a way to help your DH with his pain, swelling, and leg problems in addition to all the other issues. HUGS!! @Haljo1935 Elizabeth, I hope the appointment with the new doctor goes well. Good luck with the one on one with your boss. Lenda
  17. Maureen, congratulations on booking the cruise to celebrate your birthday plus the other good things that have been happing lately. Lenda
  18. Elizabeth, I'm glad your OT referred you to another neurologist for a second opinion. To me just saying stop your meds just sounds a bit irresponsible. I agree with Terry @smitty34877 about your boss. Brenda, I hope everyone is safe from the storm. I also hope the Mounties get there men soon, and your DD and DGD remain safe. Love the lighthouse pictures. I'm sorry Debby is having such an impact on all the festivities this week, especially the annual craft fair. Stay safe. One more lighthouse, the oldest, the Tower of Hercules in A Coruna, Spain. Under the base are the remnants of a Roman lighthouse. Lenda
  19. The recipe for today reminded me of the good rainbow trout we cooked in foil on a trip to Alaska. We were camped in Carson-Pegasus Provincial Park outside of Whitecourt, Alberta. Another camper had caught more than his limit, so instead of throwing them back, he cleaned the trout and gave them to us. It happened that the park newspaper handout had several recipes for rainbow trout, and we tried this one. We enjoyed it, even though it took a bit longer to cook the fish than the recipe said. BARBECUED RAINBOW TROUT 4 lb. rainbow trout 1 med. onion, chopped 2 tomatoes, chopped 1 t lemon juice salt and pepper lemon slices Mix onions and tomatoes with lemon juice and salt and pepper. Fill cavity of fish with onion and tomato mixture. Sprinkle lemon juice on fish, along with salt and pepper. Wrap fish in foil. Barbecue fish approximately 10-15 minutes on each side. Lenda
  20. Congratulations on the weight loss. It's not easy, but worth the effort. Lenda
  21. Good afternoon from a hot, 92F already, central Texas. It turns out DH decided to play Uber driver on my trip to W-M. We were back in less than three hours, counting the hour it took to drive over and back, but it was hot by the time we got home. I still have to get the chicken thighs and thin chicken breasts packed and in the freezer. After that, it will be trying to stay cool as we head to 100F this afternoon. Annie, I'm glad all three doctor's offices got back to you and your DH has appointments lined up for next week. Enjoyed the pictures from Alaska. Gerry, good news you got rain overnight. I'm glad your DS's car was not damaged by the hail. Jack, even though we all knew it was coming sometime, I'm sorry you had to make the difficult decision to have Sam put down Friday. While it is a gift of love for Sam, it is never easy on the humans. Take comfort in know you gave Sam three years of love, care and a good life. Vanessa, I'm glad the ENT did the maneuvers and had his therapist do more. I hope they work and you have no more problems. Terri, I'm glad you are able to check in from time to time, and that while the backyard has water, there is none getting in the house. Even 20 feet above sea level can make a big difference. I'm glad you still have Wifi and phone service. Hugs! Lenda
  22. Good morning from a sunny central Texas where it is 74F with practically no wind, 1mph. The humidity is not too bad at 82% with a dew point of 68F. The predicted high is 100F, so I plan to head to W-M and our local grocery storeas soon as possible, then stay inside and keep cool the rest of the day. Fresh breath is always good. A small group from my ninth grade science class toured our local hospital including the autopsy room where there was a sign "Halitosis is better than no breath". I like root beer floats better than coke floats. Blue Bell ice cream introduced a root beer ice cream flavor with A&W root beer. It is very good, and much better than their Dr. Pepper float flavor. We've visited and toured many lighthouses in our travels. I like the Dalai Lama's quote. The meal sounds good, and we've baked whole trout in foil on the grill which was very good. We'll pass on the drink and the wine. We have not been to Farsund either. I noticed on the map, it is not far from Kristiansand, Norway. Four interesting days in history, but two are not such good days. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I hope you can get all your errands accomplished and get that second shingles vaccine. @Vict0riann Ann, I hope all goes well at Pat's urologist appointment today. @aliaschief Welcome home, Bruce. Glad you made it without any problems. @dfish Debbie, I'm glad the leg pain has disappeared. Safe travels to Bay City and back today. @kazu Jacqui, it is understandable you are feeling unsettled about the move and leaving your home and gardens. Just remember we're here when you need us. @smitty34877 Terry, thanks for more information about the aide's feelings. I glad you are feeling better about her today. @RedneckBob Welcome back, RNB. You will always be Redneck Bob to me. Lenda
  23. Terri, it's good you still have power and internet. Yhank you for checking in qne keeping us updated. Positve thoughts headed your way for making it through the storm without any problems. Lenda
  24. Vanessa, I'm glad you were able to get an appointment so soon with your ENT. I hope he can help with the dizziness and balance. Annie, I'm glad you were able to get Chuck out of the house yesterday. DH also uses the shopping cart as a walker at times. I did not know leaving a senior citizen in the car was elder abuse. DH stays in the car most of the time, but then he is the driver and can turn on the a/c if needed. Brenda, thanks for the pictures from Hiroshima and Miyajima. Lenda
