New to X and just printed this out. Booked a C2 cabin and Stateroom type says Veranda with no reference to Concierge. Is this normal? Looking forward to MDR lunch option.

Are you sure you booked a C2 (concierge) and not a 2C (veranda)?

Totally agree the display is not visual friendly at all - in the UK all public information websites have to meet these standards, I do not think this site does and whilst Cruise Critic is not a public information website, it would have been nice if, like many sites in the UK they had aimed for this good practice.

You mean those guidelines that are specified on a page with a bright white background?  ;-)

Not an urgent problem but may be related to other display/operation issues of postings.

Note I am using FIREFOX QUANTUM 62.0.03.

On roll call posts the HTML markup for things such as large fonts, colors, etc are not being processed.  Instead the markup text is simply displayed rather than the text with varying fonts, collors, sizes.

Attached is a roll call with examples.  Note on the OCT 5 posting there is markup that are not being interperted/displayed.   In past it would display large red fonts not simply text with markings.

This has come up a number of times and we've been told it is being worked on.

When I go into my forum - River Cruising, all I can see in the posts is "Center" "Center" "Quotes" "Center" and not the nicely formatted previous posts that people are commenting on.  It is very offputting trying to work out what is the actual post. Can this be fixed please?

This has been raised here a number of time already.  Apparently they are working on it.

That is almost 100% because of a difference in the difference between teh use of BBCODE in the old vbulletin software and the new invision software.  I would NOT expect that to be addressed as it would be an extremely manually intensive thing to do.

Of course it is, but I would 100% expect it to be addressed.  It's not just the quotes but all the BBCODE formatting, smiley's, etc.  Posts are practically unreadable as it.  If after a week of being down, they weren't planning on updating existing posts - we might as well have started with an empty database.

If it hasn't been addressed during the initial conversion I would agree that it appears they are not planning to do it - but I find it very surprising.

  6. We do the same. We have a collection of eight of the blue leatherette card holders and prefer those to the ones they now provide.

I prefer the old "leather" ones as well. Was disappointed in August to only find the silicone one that sticks to your phone. We even asked out stateroom attendant if she still had any of the old ones, but she didn't. Had I known, I would have brought one from my stash in my desk drawer. Will be better prepared next time ;-)

  7. I just added a cruise that we booked yesterday.

I then started the check in process.

My phone number just happened to be the travel agency I used.

There is now an option to include a picture for identification purposes.

At the end of page one:

"Sorry, we hit a snag. We're unable to complete your request. Please try again later."

At least it was at the end of page one, and not after you had gone all the way through it.

  8. If you play at a $5 or $10 table it is 6:5.. If your a serious blackjack player do not play at the $5 or $10 table. You will be sitting with people who don't know how to play and jump In and out of the game and its quite annoying.

Forget the other people - no serious blackjack player would ever play at a 6:5 table.

The only 6:5 on Celebrity is single deck - the shoe games are always 3:2. I'm really surprised to see this.

  9. Some of that is already happening, with the 3 drinks per day instead of the open lounge transition. Which some people prefer, but for sure is cheaper.

Not sure that I agree. We used to go to the Elite Lounge - but never do anymore. On our last cruise, we had the vouchers and were able to use them for drinks in the MDR. Those are drinks that otherwise would have gone "unused". I'm sure there are others in similar situations.

Even if they limit people to 3 drinks in the lounge (pp) wonder if that will really have a big impact on number of drinks served. Perhaps. Perhaps not. I don't have the numbers to really judge.

  10. While this may be obvious to most, it is worth pointing out to some who may be reading this thread - that in order to use a SIM other than the one you have from your cell phone provider you must have an unlocked phone.

Most people in the US do not have an unlocked phone. I believe that legislation has been passed that requires providers to unlock phones upon request once certain conditions have been met (e.g. phone paid off, or have had a contract for X months). Years ago I used to have pretty good luck getting my phone unlocked upon request - now I only buy unlocked phones. There are also places you can take your phone to get it unlocked - depending on the phone.

Those looking into SIM cards likely know all this already - as I said just mentioning it for others.

  11. Sailed X a few times, but my first cruise on X with my kids (ages 3.5 and 7) is in a couple of months.

We've taken them on Norwegian and Disney- honestly a lot of the activities I'm not sure they were old enough to fully enjoy. I am hoping Celebrity is a good match for us; the kids clubs on Disney were totally overwhelming when she was 5. Norwegian was OK but it was a little bit of pandemonium. Maybe a quieter atmosphere is fine for us, but older kids who seek a lot of activities could be bored.

The fun factory is great for kids that age - my 6 and 8 year olds love it. The kids get way more personalized attention and activities than on Disney. They will have a great time!

  12. When Celebrity implemented non refundable deposits they said if you cancel the cruise the deposit is forfeited. If you moved to another date or ship there is a $100 PP change fee. So, if your deposit is $200 PP you lose it if you cancel but forfeit $100 PP to change cruises and you move $100 to the new cruise.

Good point. We often book onboard with $100 PP deposit - so I was thinking it was the same either way. But, yes, if your deposit is higher there is a bigger penalty for cancelling.

  13. Thank you for the link. Also the first Celebrity cruiser and I have a couple of questions on the benefits.

"One category upgrade applicable through Aqua Class*** (based on availability at time of booking"

Currently booked C2. Can I go up to Aqua Class? Not familiar with the category.

No, but you could have paid the C3 price for your C2. Also, upgrade to C1 at C2 price is not permitted. The upgrade is only WITHIN a category, so that's why you can't get Aqua at Concierge price.

"Captain's Club Coffee House and Captain's Club Cocktail Lounge"

Where is the CC Coffee House and do they serve specialty coffee (hoping as I do not drink alcohol)?

The letter you receive will tell you the location. Yes they serve specialty (espresso based) coffee.

  14. I have been given conflcting information by two TA and Celebrity would not provide a definitive answer. My question is if you cancel a cruise booked witha non-refundable deposit, is that money forfeited or held as FCC? I have no intention of cancelling any of the cruises I have booked, but I just found out that one of them has a non-refundable deposit and I cannot get a straight answer.

Given that cruises booked with a non-refundable deposit also incur a 100 "change" fee - I would say the deposit is fully lost with any cancellation or change.

I have never booked with a non-refundable deposit so I am not speaking from experience. Just what I gather from what I have read and heard.

    Mike

  15. The rules in the US are actually quite simple. Anytime you make a change, prior to final payment, you are in effect, canceling the original booking and making a new booking (even though the number remains the same) under whatever offer and conditions exist at the time of the change. As such it does not matter what perks you had prior to the change, it is all a blank slate and what you get depends upon the current offer at time of change.

If you have a non-refundable deposit, then you lose it just as if you had cancelled the booking. If you booked with a refundable deposit then it transfers to the changed booking.

True - with the exception that Perks received as part of an onboard booking will remain after you reprice at current offer and perks.

  16. I can say that this is not "normal" on premium plus and luxury cruise lines. On these cruise lines, the theater, lounges and even restaurants are used for muster.

    ....

P.S. While we are likely not going to sail on Celebrity again, we did sail on NCL's newest ship (the Bliss that carries 4,000 passengers). Muster was done calmly, in areas that were large enough for each group and we were able to hear and see everything. I would have thought that Celebrity would have be better than NCL but this simply was not the case in terms of muster.

I think you are missing the point that Celebrity uses these locations as well. We usually book the same cabin so our muster is usually the theater. Plenty of room, can sit, and see and hear everything. But they also have to use other locations also - some of which may be less comfortable. Perhaps on NCL you got lucky - while others had the same complaint about space.

I agree with others that state these drills are simply checking the box. Note that they no longer even provide the information in any language other than English (who recalls how many times they used to repeat the "instructions" in how many languages)? Now they simply tell foreign passengers (in English) to watch the information on their TV.

    Mike

  17. Also, if people can not hear or see what is going on, what use is muster anyway. Yes - people know where to gather but likely would find a crowded mess when they get there and would not be able to hear instructions.

In my opinion the only value to Muster drills is so that people know where to go in an emergency. Even having gone there once, I expect many will need help finding their stations in the case of an actual emergency. Beyond that, I find the "presentation" about as helpful as being instructed how to fasten my seat belt every time I get on an airplane.

Not trying to minimize the seriousness of an emergency - just don't feel that the muster drill can really prepare us for that situation no matter how well you can see or hear.

  18. Fine Cut is an unknown as the Edge has not yet sailed, but, in my experience, I have found that you can get multiple appetizers and desserts, but are limited to one main course.

    Steve

As others have stated, in my experience I've not been limited to one main course.
