  1. In my working life, anyone in my work group who wore a suit and tie (except for hosting an interviewee or meeting with a customer) would be suspected of having a job interview that day with another company.

So in my retired life the only time I wear a suit and tie is at a wedding, a funeral or a formal evening on a cruise. And the tie and jacket come off as soon as dinner is over.

I have limited opportunities to dress up even though I'm still working. I work from home and I get tired of casual clothes. I welcome the opportunity on a cruise.

  2. Bingo! My wife likes the formal nights and I have no problem doing something so very simple that makes her happy. Our upcoming cruise has 3 formal nights. I suspect my wife will want to dress for 2 of them and possibly (but not for certain) all 3. I will be happy to make her happy.

We don't change after dinner. We wear the formal wear for the remainder of the evening. I've seen many who do so.

    I like how you think.

  3. My suggestion for saving money and still playing by the rules is to consider ordering a bottle or two through room service. Princess charges about half what most other cruise lines do.

You can get a 375 ml of Jim Beam, for example, for $17. That may be nearly twice what you'd pay at your local liquor store, but it's a lot less than per-drink prices at the bars. I believe on Carnival they hit you up for $80 for a 750 ml bottle.

    Jim

This is great advice and I agree on the pricing.
  4. New sale is a 10-day sale on 10-day voyages with $10/day OBC and $10/day deposit.

(OK, it is $100 total OBC and $100 total deposit)

It includes itineraries to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico, and California coastal.

New bookings only for the OBC? Of course every sale so far has not covered the sailing I have booked so not holding out much hope anyway, lol.

  5. Cocktail prices on Princess are a bargain compared to prices on land. A cocktail on land is at least $10 before tip. More likely $12-$13 before tip and that is for the house brand liquor.
A fellow Coppellian! Now I know you can get a drink for better than that at home :) but yes, in Dallas you're right.

I must say Princess drink prices are way better than Carnival.

  6. Do you really think all would send it if it wasn't free? I never sent in any Laundry before I was Elite, and even now have never sent in more than one bag per cruise. Only one time did I do my own laundry, that was after a very muddy 4X4 trip on Bora Bora and didn't want to leave the clothes dirty for another 10 day until I got home. Pre Elite it just meant packing a couple more socks/underwear and wearing each shirt maybe one more time.

    ...

I can't speak for others but yes, I have sent laundry out when I've had to pay for it. I get it done when something is dirty, not just because it's free. But I concede that people may take advantage if it's free.

I am sure many on long cruises can't pack enough to avoid laundry and it's not fair to assume that everyone taking long cruises are Elite.

  7. So, thinking about this, what if all those 'cheaters' adding their laundry in with the Elite members stuff send theirs 'correctly' in their own laundry bags (and yes, pay for it). It's still the same load on the ship's laundry, no? Or is the thought they would not send it for crew to clean and do it themselves?

  8. I'm thinking about prepaying one of the soda drink package's and maybe the shore excursions but was wondering if you get a receipt and how does princess handles it. Is it through the booking page or email or some other way.

    Thanks.

It is available on the Cruise Personalizer/Onboard Reservations, at least here in the US.
  9. The casino can only be open when in international waters so matter where on the earth you are sailing. Bayport (Houston) is 50 miles inland so the ship has to negotiate the Houston ship channel and sail 12 miles offshore to international waters before the casino can open. When within 12 miles of the Florida coast, the casino has to shut down. Luckily the Port Everglades is right on the coast.

The "crazy Texas alcohol rules" as you mention them are that only alcohol bought in Texas and has the Texas tax stamp can be served on the ship while in Texas waters. Princess and other cruise lines have chosen to only buy a few alcohol beverages from Texas and pay the tax while preferring to buy alcohol without tax stamps (US or Texas) to serve on the ship when in international water. It is a money issue totally. Also be aware that they have to charge Texas sales tax for all purchases while in Texas waters. Florida is the same in this tax collection scheme.

Didn't someone already say that above?
  10. One deposit per passenger per cruise, and thus, one OBC per passenger per cruise. FCD's can not be used to pay a portion of the cruise fare beyond the $100 deposit. Does not apply to 3rd and 4th berths.

If you have more than one FDC you use it on another cruise, or it is fully refundable if you let it expire. If you book a b2b you can use one FDC for each leg and get the OBC for each leg. You have to calculate the math to determine the best net cost.

If you are a couple each should purchase an FDC in their name, not two FDC's in a single name.

    Thanks.

  11. How does it work if you have multiple FCCs? Presumably the $100 deposit applies but what about the OBC? Or is it one FCC per person per cruise?

Edit: I think I just asked a stupid question. You must get your original outlay back somehow.
