  1. I figured out my problem with the travel documents section. It really isn’t my problem but a lack of clear messaging within the app. It appeared I needed to add visa information for our British Isles/Iceland cruises next year. In actuality I needed to specify our passport documents even though they were shown on the screen. What a terrible user interface. No visas needed to be added, which is good since none are required.

Maybe it's that the cruise is in 2022 and it's just too early to check in??

I’m only trying to fill in the required information, something I’ve always done in the personalizer well in advance of our cruises. I was able to do this for our April 2022 cruise but not for our July/August 2022 cruises. It’s strictly items 1, 2, and 3 on the Medallion checklist. We have plenty of time to resolve it so I’ll let it sit for a while.

I doubt the ETIAS is your issue.  But you didn't state what your problems are in Travel Documents.

I'm asked to provide more documentation (passports are already there). There's a link to the Princess website (which may or may not work depending on the phase of the moon) which talks about visas. The only possible visa which may apply for the countries we're visiting is the ETIAS authorization.

I'm also having problems with our July/August 2022 cruises with the Travel Documents section. These are our first cruises to Europe since the restart. Are there any new travel requirements for European travel I'm not aware of?

Well, this may explain my issue with the Travel Documents section. The is from the Princess FAQ page in the table in the Visas section. Under the Traveling to: Schengen Agreement Countries is this:

Effective January 1, 2021, visitors from countries that do not requiring a Schengen visa, including U.S. and Canadian passport holders, will be required to obtain a travel authorization via the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) prior to their travel. Details about obtaining an ETIAS are expected to be released soon.

    https://www.princess.com/learn/faq_answer/pre_cruise/prepare.jsp

You can't apply for the ETIAS authorization until 2023 according to the ETIAS website, so I'll just have to wait for this to get sorted out.

I was one of the lucky ones who was able to do everything currently available (steps 1-3) for all 3 of our cruises until last week. That’s still true for our Fall 2021 & 2022 cruises however for Spring 2022 there are problems. Now 4 parts of the Personal Information & Documents show as not completed & despite trying several times it won’t allow me to complete them.

I’ve got plenty of time before then & if not fixed by Spring will deal with it at that time. I don’t want to risk creating any problems for our Fall 2021 cruise by uninstalling/installing.

Wow, this thread already sounds like the Ocean Princess and Pacific Princess sale threads. Of course I'm forgetting the other R-class ship they sold - was it the old Royal Princess?

It was the second Royal Princess. The original Royal left the fleet in 2005. The R-class Royal left the fleet in 2011.

Where is that document - do you get to it via Manage Booking ?

I receive them via email when I originally make my reservation. It's sent as a PDF document. There's a bullet item on the cover page:

    • Verify with Princess that the air city code is correct for your home city.
  8. Rather than checking your personalizer, check your booking confirmation document. In the "Passengers" section, there's a field "Air City" which may not be populated properly (or blank). The field in the personalizer is used in the event of an emergency, not as your home airport for EZair.

  9. We've stayed a couple of times at the Four Seasons and agree with the assessment of @dog. We've also stayed at the Intercontinental and are hoping to stay at the new-ish Fullerton someday. We've stayed at the Fullerton in Singapore and it's a favorite, so we want to try the one in Sydney. We always book ourselves and not through Princess.

I received a letter Tuesday from Holland America saying there was a data breach detected August 15.

They were able to recover all files and says there is "a low likelihood of the data being misused" and are offering 12 months of free credit monitoring and identity theft detection services.

Impacted information accessed included that of guests, employees and crew and includes names, addresses, phone numbers, passport numbers and dates of birth. It does not mention credit card information or passwords being part of this.

I received a similar letter yesterday from Seabourn. I found this odd because we’ve never sailed or even booked on Seabourn.

  11. Our June 1, 2021 Pacific Princess cruise (Singapore to Rome) was on the list. I can’t say I was surprised - in fact I was getting pessimistic about its chances of happening. We have 2 more cruises scheduled - a 10-day Mexican Riviera cruise next December and a longer Papeete to Sydney cruise in February 2022. We’ll just have to see what happens...

Lets be clear.  If you book your own air (not through the cruise line) it is very unlikely that you will ever be able to get a cash refund from the airline.  Airlines have become a lot more liberal, during the COVID mess, with eliminating some change fees.  But the terms of "change" are often time limited and must be with the same airline.  And now folks need to also factor the possibility that an airline could go bankrupt before you ever use a credit/voucher.

We were lucky earlier this year. We were booked on an Oceania cruise (Amsterdam to Barcelona) for September and cancelled it prior to the official cancellation by the cruise line. We had already purchased our airline tickets independently from the cruise line on AA. I found that AA had cancelled one leg of our return flights when they pretty much shut down their European operations. Because this was an airline initiated cancellation I was able to call AA and cancel our entire reservation and get a full refund. It took a week or so for the credit to appear on our credit card.

Does anyone belong to a wine club or do you just go to a wine store (BevMo / Total Wine / Buon Vino Inc / Cost Plus World Market) and fill a case?

Not a wine club per se, but we belong to a few winery’s clubs. Tobin James from Paso Robles is our favorite. Fantastic wines, especially their reds - 2 shipments a year. I also hit BevMo on a regular basis. Our local supermarket also has a good selection of local wines so I regularly peruse their wines.

Good thread on EZ air Business Class air fares.  Thanks for the information.  Over the many years of cruising, I have used EZ Air numerous times both domestic and international.  But, I have never used EZ Air “Business Class” so the comments are helpful in my general understanding on this subject.  Almost everyone agrees that EZ Air for international travel is the way to go.  Great prices, no tricks, rebook when prices drop, etc.

    Some questions on Business Class:

Can a person book Business Class without the help of a TA or customer rep?

I assume you must pay up front to secure Business Class.  Can you wait until Final Payment to secure?  Is that a good option?

Do you pay Princess or the airline for the added cost?

Can you select your seats?  I assume it depends on the airline.  We primarily use Delta from DTW.

Once I book Business Class – can you cancel without a penalty?  (Like a family emergency)

What happens if the cruise is cancelled by Princess?

As stated in the thread -- Princess Travel insurance cover this added item.  Correct?

    John

There’s a pull-down menu in EZ Air for the class of service. The default is economy, but you can also choose premium economy, business, or first class. You can book business class on your own this way and no payment is required until the final payment is due. You can select your seats but it depends. Our upcoming Singapore to Rome cruise in June has outgoing flights on United and inbound flights on American. We were able to get seat assignments on American directly in EZ Air. For the United flights I needed to go to United’s website and provide our travel document information before I could select seats. I can’t speak for Delta since they don’t fly out of our local airport (San Luis Obispo). When you book EZ Air, you do receive the relevant 6 character locator codes for your flights.

With EZ Air, if Princess cancels your cruise, the air is cancelled too.

  15. My biggest problem with the medallions is that there is no recycling program for them. Yes they’re small, but they contain a battery and electronics. Where we live neither of those are to be thrown in the trash - they are to be recycled. Considering that Princess distributed hundreds of thousands medallions last year, they need to, at a minimum, have convenient recycling drop boxes at disembarkation to collect them so they can be recycled properly.

So I take it you were actually dining in CC on your cruise and you didn't have to select early or late seating when you booked the cruise, and you could show up at 6 pm rather than at the early 5 pm fixed seating time every evening with no issues. That's good to know.

Yes, we had Club Class dining on our cruise. We wandering in at the time of our choice. There is no assigned table, so we move around a bit during the cruise. My wife now requires a minimum of Club Class mini-suites for any future bookings. 😼🙀😺

We just booked a Med cruise on the Pacific yesterday after our July Enchanted Princess cruise was cancelled. We almost booked a CC mini-suite, but decided to book a regular one as the Princess rep said CC dining was early/late fixed seating only rather than open seating because of the smaller MDR size. Is this true? If so, what were some of the CC dining perks you can remember over eating in the MDR or was it about the same, but with a better cabin location? On our upcoming cruise, it was only about $10 pp/day more for the CC mini-suite.

That’s not how I recall it working last year. The Club Class dining ran continuously through both fixed seatings. You sit in a section of the MDR dedicated to CC near the entrance to the MDR. There were menu items specifically for CC too.

Last year I sailed out of Sydney on the Majestic. It was spectacular leaving & going by the Opera House.

Here’s a photo from the Majestic. Yes a very scenic view.

Here's a bit larger scene taken from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, including the Opera House and the Emerald Princess docked at the Circular Quay. November 2016...

We have sailed in and out of Sydney Harbour a number of times and each time it is very special. If you are on a larger ship, you will arrive or leave from Circular Quay and if so, book a cabin on your starboard side as that faces the Opera House. The ships usually tie up with the bow facing the way out.  If you happen to be on a smaller ship or there are more than one ship in Sydney at the same time, then you will go to White Bay which is at the back of the Harbour. That is where you sail under the Harbour Bridge on leaving and arriving back into Sydney.  Again that is also very exciting as going under the Bridge is very special. Even though I am not a Sydneysider being from Melbourne, I still think that Sydney has the best cruise harbour in the world and we have been to some of the best harbours including Hong Kong,  Rio, Auckland, Cape Town, Seward and Singapore.  Nothing beats leaving Sydney on a sunny day.

    Jennie

I won’t dispute that Sydney is spectacular because it is, but San Francisco is also wonderful. Easing out into the bay, past the Marina Green and Presidio and under the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s best sitting on a port balcony sipping champagne.

    Just sayin’... 😺
