  1. Wow! I didn't know this and will put MSC in the mix when considering booking a cruise next time. Thanks for the info!

I'm delighted I could be of help and you can use the information. :D

I post such info based upon an old Irish adage:

"There are no strangers, just friends I've not yet met." :halo:

Once in a while such posts offend someone and I write it off with another Irish adage:

"For friends, no apology is necessary. For enemies, no apology is good enough."

  2. Hi why does it make a difference which cabin you are in. The butlers change around on a weekly basis so there is no chance (unless you know who is there and specifically request them) of knowing who your butler will be.

As to the concierge - someone else out there may know the answer.

You are right on target. If a favorite butler is aboard, I will ask he be assigned to me. They are assigned to a deck on either port or starboard. (It used to be a deck either forward or aft) This is usually approved as long as his current assignment is on the next deck (above or below). If I'm doing a back to back to back, they'll OK the assignment for the following sailing(s).

As for Concierges, many times I make my bookings of a ship or itinerary around the Hotel Director and or Concierge roster.

  3. ...

But the great news is that Yannis has returned to Sea but not with NCL.

So for you people who mention you need a hug from Yannis book with MSC!!!

Currently he’s on the MS Davina

  4. This thread is 43 pages!

It should be bifurcated by Vessel.

I don't have time to sift through 43 pages!

Most of the regular posters use this thread to share information on senior staff fleet wide, not for just one particular ship and cruise. Those using the thread for the more limited purpose will just have to read more and post more info. If it isn't broke don't fix it.

I reviewed your previous 82 posts and note you've never posted info on this thread. Perhaps you could post new info after your next NCL cruise?

  5. Then why stay quiet. Why let the problem continue. Voice your opinion. Any person who just "cares" about life will be willing to listen to anyone who can talk positively about a customer service issue. It is about "we" not "I". It is not just your problem it is all the cruisers problem. And is this person fixing this problem just for you or don't you think the person is fixing it for everyone. Like I said earlier. My first encounter with Brian was negative. And sometimes the truth hurts. But as professionals, we hopefully try not to take complaints personally. And as a gentleman, Brain was concerned about my observations.

It is all about "timing". Any recognition rather positive or negative has to done on the ship and directly at the source and not here on CC two weeks later. And "HERO" cards are responses in a timely manner.

And my observations of the customer service staff on the SUN are that they have always "yes" always treated me with the same courtesy and respect as all the other cruise guests even though I am just a crazy old man, no matter who is in charge. I love my SUN:D and will miss her next year in Alaska.

The only reason I mentioned The One Bad Guy is because someone asked if we'd ever cancel a cruise because of an HD.

  6. I really do not understand how you and Uniall. I have met Uniall on the Sun a lot cruises ago. Cabin crawl. Owners suite. You are a very kind and intelligent person. A man of wisdom. And now you say if the thought of someone's presence will affect a decision to consider an itinerary and price that looks great to you.

My first impression for the Immortal Brain Waters back in 2104 during the midway on a B2B. Things just were not right that first week. I confronted him and lets just say we both caught each other at the wrong time. But you know we were able to work things out. The second week a little better. I have since sailed with Brain over 70 days. We are friends. No, we are family. He even brought it up at the M&G on the Suns last Alaskan cruise. He gave me a little shot about complaining in front of everyone. But I was surprised he remember. I am very happy we both gave each other a second chance:D.

First let me say I agree that Brian Walters is one of the Good Guys.

The HD I would avoid is rarely mentioned in these pages. My problem with the unnamed Bad Guy has nothing to do with the way he dealt with me. My problem with him is observing the way he dealt with a multitude of other people.

  7. I am curious, why people need to know the Restaurant Manager name or the Hotel manager name prior to cruise?

I could see asking about Cruise Director. If you don't like the person, do you cancel your cruise?

    Please shed some light.

I could see if you are friends with this person.

There are many HDs I will book a cruise to sail with them again. There's one HD I will cancel a cruise to avoid.

  8. I wish that had been the case on one of my early NCL suite cruises. Brian Walters was HD and Karin G. was Concierge. However, our butler, who will remain nameless was terrible. I know two other couples also complained to Karin. She was very frustrated with him. In fact, he got iff at one if our ports and never came back.

All of our other butlers have been A+.

Your story proves my point. Your butler did not measure up to HD Walter's and the Concierge's standards and was sent packing. That's a rare occurence and demonstrates management's high bar of service.

  9. We've done 27 NCL cruises of which all but two were "en suite." We've only had one bad butler and that was before I knew what to expect and ask of a butler. So, I shoulder some of the blame on that one.

NCL butlers report directly to the Concierge, who reports directly to the Hotel Director. My pre law degree in Business taught me that employees at the point of customer contact take on the personality and psyche of their management.

So, if you have an A+ Concierge working for an A+ Hotel Director, you should have an A+ butler.

  10. At the age of 20, I had all the answers.

By 30, I realized 4 out of 5 was good.

Turning 40, the new norm was 3 out of 5.

    At 50, life's reality became 2 out of 5.

Since the 60 mark, I hope for once in a while.

Try out these opinions on opinions:

“You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitledto your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant.”

    Harlan Ellison

“Your assumptions [opinions] are your windows on theworld. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in.”

    Isaac Asimov

“It's okay to disagree with the thoughts or opinions expressedby other people. That doesn't give you the right to deny any sense they mightmake. Nor does it give you a right to accuse someone of poorly expressing theirbeliefs just because you don't like what they are saying.”

    Ashly Lorenzana

“It is only natural, of course, that each man should think hisown opinions best: the crow loves his fledgling, and the ape his cub.”

    Thomas More, Utopia

“I have opinions of my own - strong opinions - but I don'talways agree with them.”

    George H.W. Bush

  11. Surely "One man's meat is another man's poisson". VBG

I sincerely have no idea what "VBG" could possibly mean.

As far as the quoted expression is concerned, this is a very old and oft quoted expression in the English language handed down to us by the Romans.

Why do we say "One man's meat is another man's poison.

Meaning: Everything is relative - what one person values, another may think worthless.

Background: This expression originates in antiquity. Whether the Roman poet and philosopher Titus Lucretius Carus (known as Lucretius) coined the expression in the first century BC, or merely repeated it, his is the oldest known reference: "quod ali cibus est aliis fuat acre venenum" (what is food for one man may be bitter poison to others).

The oldest reference known in English is in the autobiography of English composer Thomas Whythorne (c. 1576).

By the early 17th century the expression is clearly well in use as Jacobean playwright Thomas Middleton writes "Whereby that old moth-eaten proverb is verified, which says, 'one mans meate, is another man's poyson'" (1604).

  12. Hello. I apologize if I missed more current information regarding the Gem...

Is Richard Janicki on the Gem through September? I don't think I've sailed on a ship with him, so based on the opinion of him given by bmwman, I'm sure hoping Mr. Janicki will be on the Gem.

Does anyone have a list of other current Gem officers?

    Thanks to all for information!

    Hmmmm ...

I'm trying to remember the first time I ever heard these expressions:

"Be careful what you wish for."

"One man's meat is another man's poison."

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion."

    "No one is perfect."

"Even a broken clock is right twice a day."

  13. Oh yes John!

Yannis is my very favorite, but I kinda considered him as F&B.

I thought he was a great HD when he held that position on a couple of our cruises - probably with you and Sharon Rae!

I am so happy for him.

I heard from Yannis recently and he sounded very happy.

Good for Yannis, sad for passengers.

    Judy

    Judy

Yes indeed. You're right on target about Yannis.

Last month, we exchanged updates with each other. I told him to let me know, if and when, he goes to sea again. I told him I'd book a cruise just to see him, even if it were "Ruski Cruise Lines." ;p

    John

  14. True, but the top three FOR ME - just an opinion - are Prem, Sean and Brian Walters.

Brian is on vacation from the SUN , but he is amazing, awesome, and every other superlative you can think of.

I very much enjoy many others, but if I had to vote on awesome HDs..............

Now, when I start to think about it, I have to mention Alaine from the DAWN recently.

For me, another fine gentleman, as are Mustafa and Mirsad.

I guess I could think back and mention all of the HDs we've met.

    I've never met a bad one. :)

    Judy

    Judy

I agree with your ratings and I'd add one more (now sadly gone) to the great HDs list: Yannis (as an HD vacation replacement)

Sadly, I've met one (and only one) HD that I found so bad, I will cancel a booking if he's on board.

  15. Uniall,

This is what happens when I go out of town for two days, I forget everything I did before I left.

When someone answers, I will be glad to post all the officers names when I get back. That is what I did on my last Escape cruise.

I know about them using the ships for supplies. I was so proud to read that about the different cruise lines that did that.

I always do invitations for the M&G to the officers. I think it just adds a nice touch.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hurricane Irma Update

    Miami, Florida, U.S. - Sep 12, 2017

Updated September 12th 1:00 PM ET (5:00 PM UTC)

Norwegian Escape is sailing at close to full capacity with displaced guests from both Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Escape that were unable to secure flights back home when the ships returned early to Miami on Thursday, September 7. Norwegian Escape spent three days alongside in Cozumel, Mexico and departed on Monday, September 11 at 5 pm. The ship is proceeding towards Miami and is scheduled to arrive at PortMiami on Wednesday morning, September 13. Due to the devastating impact in the Caribbean from Hurricane Irma, all of Norwegian Escape’s upcoming Eastern Caribbean sailings until November will be altered to a Western Caribbean itinerary. All guests scheduled to sail on any affected cruises will be notified of the change.

Acting as a responsible corporate citizen and supporting the destinations that our ships operate in is a core value of Norwegian Cruise Line. In the wake of this devastating storm, we have deployed Norwegian Sky to St. Thomas, USVI to bring much needed supplies and assist in a humanitarian effort that is currently being organized by the government. As per the State Department, affected US Citizens in St. Thomas should email name, gender, and their last known location to IrmaEmergencyUSC@state.gov.

Norwegian Sky will depart as scheduled on Friday, September 15. Norwegian Escape will depart as scheduled for a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise on Saturday, September 16.

As the safety and security of our team members is our top priority, Norwegian Cruise Line's Miami headquarters will remain closed through Tuesday, September 12 and are scheduled to re-open on Wednesday, September 13. To ensure that we continue to operate with all the necessary shoreside support, key staff members have been relocated out of Miami and the storm zone. Our call centers will be operating remotely, so please be advised that hold times in our call center may be longer than normal. Our website will remain available 24/7.

Additional updates will be posted at NCL.com.

  16. Good Morning,

Can someone please give me the names of the officers on the Escape. I will be sailing her again in a few weeks and want to get the M&G invitations done. (Captain, Hotel Director, F&B, Guest Relations, Concierge, Food, Cruise Director, any of them please).

I think Tyler is on vacation so he won't be on board when I cruise, anyone please help.

    Thanks, Candie

    Candie

I think you posted this same question 2 days ago. I'd suggest you give it a little more time for someone to reply.

In this case, it's doubly difficult to get an answer since the Escape (and the Sky) were used to evacuate passengers and NCL employees who were stranded in Miami from the ravages of hurricane Irma.

    John

    PS

You don't need the names of the officers to prepare M&G invites. It may be a nice touch but it's not a necessity.

  17. Ok agreed but then DH, IMHO etc all need to be typed in full

That makes sense to me. As a matter of fact, I never use DW.

Considering, on our wedding day, my Dear Wife told me: "I do not believe in divorce, I believe in murder", I always refer to her as "Sharon Rae" or "She who must be obeyed." ;)

I've always regarded "IMHO" to be verbiage used by a controlling person hiding behind a false sense of humility.

Finally, I never liked "etc." I always preferred "and the like"
