  1. All that the grandfathering clause says is that you won't be pushed back from a level you have already achieved. To move up a level, you will need to hit the new target.

Here is a summary, based on the points currently showing in your account:

1-19 points - You are currently bronze and stay there. You will now need 30 points rather than 20 to hit silver

20-29 points - You are currently silver and will stay there, despite only having the points for bronze under the new scheme. You will now need to reach 55 rather than 48 for gold.

30-47 points - You are currently silver and stay there. You will now need 55 points rather than 48 for gold.

48-55 points - You are currently gold and will stay there, despite only having the points for silver under the new scheme. You will now need to reach 80 rather than 76 for platinum.

56-75 points - You are currently gold and stay there. You will now need 80 points rather than 76 for platinum.

76-79 points - You are currently platinum and will stay there, despite only having the points for gold under the new scheme. You need 175 for platinum plus.

80-174 points - You are currently platinum and stay there. You need 175 points for platinum plus.

175-699 points - You are currently platinum but will move up to platinum plus.

700+ points - You've had too many cruises and need to start paying for extra ones for me.

You posted a great recap of the changes in Latitude's Tiers.

However, I must take exception to your opinion regarding 770+ points:

" You've had too many cruises and need to start paying for extra ones for me. "

Are you some kind of "Socialist" ?

    It should read:

"700+ points, As in the song 'New York, New York' You're A number One, King of Hill, Top of the Heap. "

    :p

  2. I don't know about the MDR or Main Buffet but the thin sliced salmon (lox) were still available in Cagney's on the VIP cold breakfast buffet on the Dawn in January.

Served with a glass of bubbly or two, this made breaking the fast delectable and classy.

But, the appetizer sized smoked cold salmon filet on toast points with tartar sauce was gone from the VIP lunch menu.

Washed down with a nice Chardonnay, it has been my every day VIP luncheon staple for years (Yum).

I asked the Maitre 'd and he said he had no idea why it had been removed by Miami, since it had been very popular.

He had it ready for me every day for the remainder of the cruise. :D

I wonder if some of the menu changes are victims of Miami bean counters squeezing blood from the proverbial turnip or if the Miami Culinary office is listening to passengers with the tastes of classless Phillistines.

  3. Hi UniAll,

Could you copy your email and post it for us please. Don't show your email address just the address from NCL.

    Thanks,,

    happytotravel

    Sorry, no can do.

It was a private email initiated by the Shore Excursion Supervisor after arranging accessible excursions for me throughout my upcoming cruise.

My legal training and ethics prevent me from publicly publishing the email without the author's permission.

  4. I will do the same thing as you John, and present my card to the shore excursion desk We have about $1200 Cnd already booked and paid for with a confirmation date of Jan 8th 2017. Not sure I can get any refund as we did book before the new Platinum plus tier. It would be around $150.00 Cnd. Worth a try though.

According to the Shore excursion supervisor's email you will get a retroactive Platinum Plus discount as long as you are Platinum Plus before going on the excursion no matter when it was booked or paid for in advance or not.

  5. Got an email from Shore Excursion Department's Supervisor today (personal not broadside form letter) informing me:

to present my key card at the on board shore excursion desk to receive new Latitudes' discounts for excursions booked prior to sailing, including pre paid and reserved but unpaid.

  6. Yep, that's what I got the one and only time I've sailed as a Platinum. Cold Duck :-)

I remember it being really sweet. I love sparkling wine. As perks go, it's up there with the chocolate mints on your bed.

My bottle was Duc de Paris Brut. It was OK but made great Mimosas with room service Orange Juice .. :D

  7. Reading the new program T&Cs regarding the free Ambassador cruise it says:

"Ambassador members will be offered a one-time complimentary 7-day cruise. The cruise is for 2 people in a balcony stateroom, third and fourth guests will be at prevailing rates."

Am I alone in reading that as 1 cruise per Ambassador? If me and my wife both reach Ambassador will we get 2 free cruises?

Not that it matters too much.... I reckon I need 59 more 7 day cruises :(

I'm in hopes the "one time" complimentary 7 day cruise will be amended to follow the Royal Caribbean model and give a free cruise thereafer for every 250 points.

  8. That is what we have done when the casino has provided us with a cabin and we've preferred a suite. Good luck. We are going to miss meeting you on the 2/5 Panama trip - Karen

Thanks for the encouraging info on an a possible upsell of the free balcony cruise. Wtihout mentioning the source, I'll use it as a justification argument that the Casino's upsell program should apply to Ambassador's program.

As for the Feb 5 Panama Canal sailing, we'll miss seeing you, as well.

Tell houskeeping to put Fwd Penthouse Suite 10000 on the prioity list, since we're now sailing for the return cruise to LA when you disembark in Miami on Feb 19.

  9. The Ambassador free cruise... so you don't get any promotions? If that's the case, by the time I add in UBP and SDP, isnt it more like a small discount cruise?

    Doug

I'll have to work out a plan on that one. I'm already thinking of asking if I can apply the value of the balcony cruise for a suite and pay the difference. As for the specialty dining, the 2 nights Platinum dining are good enough for a a 7 nighter. Then, the night of the officer dinner might be in specialty dining and should come with wine. Are favorites are: LeBistro, Cagney's and LaCucina, so that's a good fit. (I might splurge and go for a 3rd night) As for the UBP, I'll probably go back to bringing wine aboard and paying the $15 corkage. (Did you know "Rollator" seats are an exact fit for a case of wine.... LOL)

With all the changes that are occuring, I hope the Future Crusie Rewards 4 pack promo is still on for our Panama Canal in two weeks. As you know, if you buy (1) $250 coupon, you get a $100 immediate OBC, making the cost $150. But the Special has a sliding scale and if you buy (4) $250 coupons, you get a $500 OBC. We'll use our cruise OBCs to pay half of the cost of the 4 coupons and then get our cash outlay purchase money back.

  10. Anyone else read on NCL's FB page that Platinum and above will be able to bring 1 case of 12oz bottled water on board but must receive prior approval from Guest Services?

(not really but everyone is freaking out before we even get to Feb 3rd when it will be official....right now FAQs are so fluid this could happen..... people just need to breath)

Sent from my SM-N910V using Forums mobile app

"Freaking out" was not the definitive term to describe my state of mind from last Friday afternoon until Saturday morning.

"Manic Mode" was probably a more correct term.

I (and many others) had to quickly separate facts from fiction and rumors.

Then, we had to ascertain available options.

Finally, we had to determine a plan of action and execute it in any available window of opportunity.

Now, that I've completed those steps, I can sit back, breathe, and relax in the knowledge I'll reach Ambassador level within 16 months.

Then, "She who must be obeyed" and I will learn if we're allowed to take our 7 day award cruise on Pride of America in the late fall or early winter 2018.

  11. First people were concerned they would not get early booking bonus points after 2/3/17. Then they found out that early booking bonus points would be applied to 2017 cruises. So people got concerned that early booking bonus points would not be awarded to 2018 cruises. Then it was said that early booking bonus points would be awarded to 2018 cruises. But it is clear that people are booking in 2019 also.

Aha now I see what your getting at. It seems that any cruise available for booking before Feb 3 Will be good for early booking bonus.

  12. That people have book cruises for 2017, 2018, and 2019. It is not just 2017 and 2018. There is even a cruise in 2020 I am interested in, but they have not opened it for booking yet. I hate waiting until the last minute to book a cruise.

What has that got to do with your eligibility to receive early booking bonus points?

The issue being discussed is whether any booking (it must have already been bookable or will be bookable before Feb 3, 2017) made on sailing 9+months in the future before Feb 3, 2017 will still get early bonus points?

    The anwer is YES. ooorah

  13. I've booked a 2019 cruise and had to take my second choice of cabins because someone else had already booked my first choice.

Yes, and what is the point you're trying to make??

I have three 2018 cruise booked Jan 10, 2017 all for suites.

I will get a bonus point for each night since they are suites.

I will get another bonus point for every night since they were 9 month early bookings made before Feb 3, 2017.

  14. Hi, what definition does NCL use for "booking 9 months out" ?

Do they use the Julian date calendar days?

Example: Today Feb 1 is JD 32. Oct 29 is JD 302. From today to Oct 29 is 270 days (270 days is 9 months).

Or do they use "Months" as entities.

Example: Today Feb 1 is the 2nd month and Oct 29 is the 10th month. From Feb. to Oct. is 8 months. (10-2= 8 months)

If you booked today 2/1/17 nine months would be 11/1/17

  15. I emailed NCL about this yesterday. I was told that the Latitudes department is aware of the restrictive phrasing, and that they will be updating the faqs to state "for all cruises that were booked prior to February 3, 2017".

I guess we wait and see.

Anyone who has ever ammended organization by-laws, rewritten legislation, or changed a legal document knows the headaches of making a change in the main section but forgetting it also requires changes in multile other sections.

I suspect the change was a rewrite of the existing verbiage that referred only to 2017 and the editor forgot 2018 sailings were already being booked.

  16. Are there late, well timed, and planned leaks? Did they call a plumber? If I recall correctly, that is what Nixon did. Unfortunately Nixon's plumber was also the leaker.

Yes, there are planned leaks in business.

They're usually referred to as "Trial Balloons."

But my source was quite clear this one was unforseen and unplanned.

  17. It was leaked on Facebook on multiple sites and was picked up on here hours later. So much for your "high level management" confirmation.

My comments were posted because some prior posts, info and reports were contrictory and made based upon guess, rumor and supposition.

My post sourcing comment were intended to validate their factual basis.

It would be nice if you could participate in posting without taking shots at others.

That may be the norm for social media but ought not be visited upon us.

  18. I have read every page.

Can anybody confirm for sure that 2018 cruises don't get the extra point if booked in the next couple days?

    Thanks.

I've been informed by two middle management persons that my 2018 bookings will receive the 9 month early booking bonus points.

  19. By no means am I questioning what you were told. I'm just sharing my first-hand experience of how the information spread.

Understood. You and I have been on the same page from the beginning.

If it had not been for your able assistance, I would not have been able to play catch up and put together my Plan "Z" to reach Ambassador in a timely manner.

  20. I'm not sure I'd say it was leaked to CruiseCritic. Once Travel Agents start posting it to their FB groups (which is where it originated), I'd say it's fair game for it to be carried over to Cruise Critic for discussion.

    Doug

I'm quoting the exact language given to me from "the powers that be."

I'm only changing the syntax and name to keep the indentity confidential.

    John

  21. In an effort to put conflicting comments, posts, and opinions to rest, I have confirmation from high level management that the confusion and chaos was caused by an early, ill timed, and unplanned leak.

The information was leaked to Cruise Critic and leaving NCL no choice but to go forward even though they were getting many questions that their team could not answer since they had no information.

  22. But what about the people like my mom who every other year take my sisters family and my family on a cruise. Sometimes we stay in the Haven, sometimes balcony cabins. She is paying MUCH more than $1000 a day, especially if we multiple cabins in the Haven. However, she is only getting credit for her particilar reservation and Im still collecting my 21 points for a cruise I didnt pay. She pays more than $1000 when we are all in balconies too but she should be treated different than you?

Maybe it should be based on what you pay.

Also, RCCL has many Pinnicale and above due to not so long ago up to about the 90s when your status was based on sailings, not days at sea. There were many retirees that would sail 3 and 4 nights and get the same credit I did for a 7 night cruise. We usually book two cabins for our family of four and when the kids were young, we didnt get any credit although the kids eventually did. My dd is 22 and Platinum on NCL, although I have nights lol

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    Sorry for the confusion.

I was speaking of $1000 per day for 2 persons in 1 cabin.

  23. That works, I like your logic. Now if our kids ever gave us back the money they "borrowed" we could cruise even more. See you on the Jewel.

    Brian & Sandra,

    Is that you?

Small Cruise Critic world, ehhh ? (I think that's Canadian for "don't you agree")

    Thanks for the shout out.

By the by, I've had 2 cancelations on the Roll Call.

That also opens 2 slots for the Panama Canal Transit Party in my Suite.

Email me, if you want to fill the slots: john e mc neal at M S N DOT COM

See you soon for our 14 days from Miami to LA.

    John

    PS

I'll be racking up 42 points (including the 9 month bonus).

That will put me at 604 points.

I can feel the NCL Luv.... LOL

  24. We are still at gold after 9 cruises so its not that easy to get to Platinum. Just never able to plan ahead 9 months......oh well!

    Jeff,

The secret is being a retired couple with two pensions.

One pension for living expenses and the other for cruising.

While I'm infusing humor, it's also the truth.

    John
