  1. cabo glass factory is not that great, they do demo's when tours show up, it would be a long walk, and it is kinda hard to find on your own, we stopped by on our own about 5 years ago, 10 min. later we were done and gone. If you are into mexican glass work, best to browse the shops in old town PV for super custom glass art, and there is a very large glass shop there at great prices, the cabo factory is more of a tour stop tourist trap

  2. Both, start by chartering a Pulmolina Taxi by the hour ($20/hr), head up to Playa Bruja for a cool drink, head back to Hotel Playa, pay off the Pulmolina, then after a few hours at Hotel Playa, then find a fresh Pulmolina Taxi to head back to stone island ferry for the grand finale' of a few hours of shrimp, then back to the ship, if Hotel Playa wants a use fee, change to Hotel El Cid El Morro Beach (FREE and more going on at it's beach)

  3. Water Taxi to Avis in the lobby of Pueblo Bonito Rose (KB6), have done it 6+ times, and will do again... and again

You can reserve for free with no cancellation penalty on line (and no no-show penalty)

(I think I have reserved on line and then called in an transferred the reservation to KB6)

Amazingly affordable, and an amazing visual journey to, and through, Pueblo Bonito Rose

Pueblo Bonito Rose even has a free internet area near the AVIS desk

  4. Could be nice, sunny & warm (70+ degrees). More than likely cloudy in the mornings and afternoons, and lucky to hit 70 degrees. It will still (more than likely) be a very affordable adventure worth taking. Search historical weather for any of the area beach cities (imperial beach, encinitas, solana beach, leucadia) to get an idea of the beach weather at that time of the year. Inland weather is very different than beach weather in the SoCal area (same climate as nearby Ensenada)

  5. Ensenada is a bay, so waves will be small, and easy to learn, and mexican bay water pollution is a consideration. We live in San Diego (same weather). The beach weather is sketchy, meaning that warm is the exception, except for mid-late summer; ocean water is cold (wet suits). So, in general, a surf day in Ensenada is not a place we would consider for a surf cruise tour, mainly due to lack of warm water, and lack of reliable warm weather; on the other hand, if the weather and sea conditions are optimal, it could be great fun

  6. Walk out the "IN" gate to the cruise terminal (the farther gate, past the "OUT" gate). Ask about room for 5 in a pulmonia taxi, pick a pulmonia taxi with nice seating for 5 (you will have a choice of at least 10 in the immediate area). At $20/hour minimum. Drive up along the coast to Playa Bruja (15 miles), stop for a cool drink at the beach front Playa Bruja cafe, then start heading back, stopping as many times (they love to wait for you, no fuel used), and for as long as you like (stop and walk the beach front El Cid Castilla Beach, they welcome cruisers). Tour a bit of downtown. Drop off and pay the taxi off at the Stone Island Ferry, visit Stone Island (taxis are everywhere, you will find a new one back tot he ship for minimal $). We have done this many many times, and will do this many mnay more times

  7. suggest dropping off at the Malecon and walking south, as it gets better as you go south, exploring the fascinating shopping (local art like nowhere else in Mexico) and taco stands along the streets inland near the pier (the pier is in bottom left of map below), then taking a $4 cab up to Casa Isabel for the views and ambiance, then taking an $8 cab back to the ship.

  8. We plan on taking the bus to the Malecon.
We prefer a yellow cab outside the cruise terminal, $5 for up to 4, and you get there in 15 min. with a breeze flowing in the heat. At $1 pp for the HOT long LONG bus ride, not so fun for us.

btw... we also visit walmart... gotta stock up on something, great visuals and prices on local quality merchandise, and use a credit card to do it, and when you are bargaining for the cab back... ya say walmart... and ya get to the pier cheaper

  9. Cabo is a deep Deep DEEP water port, out in the middle of the largest ocean in the world (look at a world map); thus the waters can be calm, or the seas can ROUGH. We would research sea weather reports on the ship before booking, and if the forecast is CALM WITH LIGHT WINDS, then you will have a nice snorkel tour, either one you choose

  10. Another point for those planning. Cab drivers love to stop and wait for your $20 hour fee (no fuel used). So you could plan to stop at the downtown central market or cathedral (research it), Playa Norte for a beach front Palapa fish taco (research it), A shrimp cafe near the brewery (research it), a brewery tour (research it and get a new cab), Stone Island (research it and get a new cab), the Mairna area (research it), the Golden Zone (research it), not worth your wait cliff diving (research it), or wal mart or costco to stock up on supplies and gifts (use a credit card). Also we bring aboard $100 in new crisp $1 bills, and assorted newer $5's & $10's, and credit card larger buys.... waiting for change is not good, and older/torn cash is not accepted

  11. Best Bet... El Cid El Moro, welcomes cruisers with open arms, lots going on, lively beach, huge resort, quiet spots for those seeking quiet. Pay as you go. There will be many folks from your cruise ship there, you will feel right at home (you may feel a bit out of your element at a random resort, as Mazatlan is a large Mexican working town, with mostly Mexican tourists at many resorts, also there are many quiet boring resorts, as cruise ships port mid week, quiet time of the week for resorts; alternatively in Cabo and PV there are many more USA tourists in general, and in general, Mexicans prefer winging it... rather than day passes)

We have done the the following many times, as an all day at a resort is not for us, but an hour is

Find a Pulmonías Taxi (go out the in terminal in gate and bargain for $20 per hour)

go up to the Playa Bruja beach front Cafe' (15 miles north), then start back, along the beach and marina, stop at El Cid, and places that interest you, have the taxi driver drop you off at the stone island ferry (5 min from ship), visit stone island, get a new cab back to the ship (cabs are everywhere)

  12. Yes, you can get transportation to El Cid for FREE.. Right in the cruise terminal is the Time Share sales area, and they will get you there and back free, and you can use the resort for free. Massages are everywhere for cruise passengers, and no the El Cid is not known as an extensive day spa amenities resort, but they will have massages and likely common day spa amenities

  13. Find a Pulmonías Taxi (go out the in terminal in gate and bargain for $20 per hour)

go up to the Playa Bruja beach front Cafe' (15 miles north), then start back, along the beach and marina, stop at El Cid, and places that interest you

  14. Unlike many Caribbean ports, Mexican Riviera ports are hugely varied, especially the 3 most visited. Cabo is extreme desert climate/ambiance mixed with world class rich and famous. Mazatlan has extra special temperate climate and down right classic old school Mexico. PV has widely interesting seaside jungle mountains and ex-pat companion, comforts and services. Manzanillo, Xtappa/Zihua & ACA are also varied gems. We will Dec-Feb cruise these ports, till the end of time.

  15. Deer island is uninhabited and somewhat distant, at least an 30+ minutes total trip time from the ship on a high speed boat). Stone Island is not an island, it is in the immediate area across the bay, lots of folks, play items, cheap prices. If ya want nature, Deer Island, if ya want lively, Stone Island
