As an Irish friend of mine would have said, "the easiest way to get to Dover is not to start at Heathrow"

There's no direct public transport - that corner of England is London-centric, you'd need to go into central London, then out again to Dover.

Easiest is by National Express coach (which, on this route, I guess is what you're calling a city bus) to London Victoria coach station and either an easy change there to a direct Dover-bound coach, or a level 15-minute walk to Victoria train station for a direct train to Dover (Dovercourt station).

Or if you want to splash out an extra £50, a private transfer from Heathrow to either Victoria train station or Victoria coach station - in which case the train is easier & quicker and not a lot more expensive. For these options add about £10 for a taxi from Doverourt train station or the coach stop in Pencaster Road to the cruise terminal.

But those options are more time-consuming & complicated than ..............................

travelling direct from Heathrow to Dover.

A private transfer would cost in the order of £140

    and add nearby https://www.folkestonetaxi.com/

Taxis at the Dover end tend to offer a better and more-personal service than airport-based operators.

Or this is one of very few routes in the world where I reckon ship-sponsored transfer coaches worth considering.

It's a cheap option for a singleton, not much more expensive than a private transfer for a twosome, and led by the hand at Heathrow & delivered to the cruise terminal

JB isn’t Dovercourt station in Harwich, Essex?

I haven't thought about Baristas. Didn't even know they did cocktails, but you can't get the 2-for-1 cocktails there. It has been a bit too cold to be out on the back deck. Today at lunch was the first time we saw anyone out there, and then only a hardy few.

Just went up to Baristas. I was right, that you can't get the 2-for-1 Happy Hour there and they don't have any place to sit that we can fit the seven of us. But if you don't do those two things, that could work.

We were on the back deck at 1:00pm today, in t shirts, some in light jackets. Absolutely packed out.

  3. In May Oceania had the luggage tags etc. sent to us in the UK. It was posted from Miami, We couldn’t believe the number of postage stamps on the package 😄 It must have doubled the weight of the package. We couldn’t understand why it couldn’t have been sent by email and we could then print the luggage tags. So even now it would make sense to email the

luggage labels (as we in the UK call them). Cunard do that.

I think you will have to get them at the dock

We got ours in the Booklet but since O is not sending to the UK anymore

    The porters should have them

OK thanks Lyn. Oceania, if so then not good enough!😡

but hey they also have baked potatoes all the time....

This is on Oceania's list of what not to bring onboard:

Items brought on board the vessel and not supplied by the Company containing any kind of heating element, such as but not limited to: immersion heaters, heating blankets, flat irons, water heaters, coffee machines with heating/hot plates, etc.

I once forgot to unplug my cell phone and when I came back to the cabin, they had it unplugged. I''m a rule-follower so I can do without a curling iron or whatever while I'm on a cruise ship.

Possibly because it was plugged in and unsupervised. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  7. Coming from the UK I understood a flat iron to be an item used to flatten/straighten clothes. These are available for use on board and there’s no need to weigh down your luggage with one.🙂. For hair we use the terms curling tongs and straightening tongs.I understood that these were allowed on board. 🤔

Currants on top (technically a kind of grape)

millefeuille ( translation thousand leaves) French pastry in Jacques but shows up sometimes in MDR

    phyllo pastry and custard cream

Are they Redcurrants .. Redcurrants are quite tart/sour 😳

  9. We are also on the QM2. We were on a six hour tour yesterday ‘Christmas in New York’. The disembarkation and re boarding was swift and very well organised by the Red Hook people. We were kept separate from the passengers disembarking at the end of their cruise. We went through separate Passport checks (10 minute wait) and the same on our return.  So quick and efficient. We were expecting huge queues, but we were kept moving by several friendly helpful people directing us and wishing us a Happy Christmas.😄

Pretty sure they'll not draw too much power ... but I suppose technically they could be considered a 'heating element' and therefore banned.  At sea, I just use plastic rollers on damp hair and sit on the balcony for a while in the breeze.

Not on the Atlantic in December, surely 😳
