  1. I see you're connecting through a different place. That's a good choice. But for those who come across this posting:

Last summer, we had to change planes at Heathrow. Definitely let the airline know you need wheelchair assistance, and confirm it again when checking in. Might also want to confirm it with the flight attendant when an hour or so from landing.

AND make sure you allow plenty of time between connecting flights. Better to have extra time at the gate than rescheduling.

When traveling, we also bring my husband's Hugo wheelchair/walker. It was at the gate promptly after arriving. I pushed that while my husband was being transported in a wheelchair. My gosh.... I have never seen an airport like Heathrow. It just went on and on. All worked out great for us. But if I had a choice in connecting in a different airport, I would. Otherwise, just make sure you have at least 2 hours between flights.

  2. I have to disagree with a couple responses here. My mother had dementia, but she loved to travel. What does it matter if the person doesn't remember the past? It's called 'living in the moment', and that's what she did. She couldn't remember too much, but that didn't bother either one of us. Before the onset of dementia, she use to worry about this and that - the past, the future... As hard as dementia is on everyone concerned, I have to say it was wonderful finally seeing her enjoy the experiences as they occurred. And they're great memories for me now.

Have you considered finding a caregiver at the port you'd like to take the excursion? A nurse or caregiver that would spend time with him in port? What port are you considering? Maybe contact a caregiving agency in that town.

You'll know when it's time to stop traveling. So, if he's still safe to travel, go for it.

  3. As my mother's health declined, we purchased foldable, a walker/wheelchair. With that, she was able to enjoy a bit of walking, and then we she became tired, we changed it over to the wheelchair mode. Now my husband uses it for any trip we take (balance/walking difficulty due to stroke). It's called the Hugo. And cruising is our favorite mode of travel now. We don't feel compelled to get out and do very thing. Sometime, just enjoying the scenery and an easy walk in town is great.

  4. My husband loves massage. So I looked around on the web to find a highly rated place nearby. Check trip advisor. Can't remember the name offhand, but my husband said it was very good. We took a cab there. It wasn't too much money. I walked around the area, and it was fine. When it was time to leave, we found the same taxi driver waiting for us, and he took us back. They offered more services than just massage. I'll check it out too, and get back to post here.

  5. Which is better: the Crown Grill or Sabatinis? We find ordering a couple appetizers a better fit for us.

Also, a bit off subject, but any suggestions/tips how best to avoid lines and crowds on a ship this size? We don't go to the shows; we prefer eating dinner early; we enjoy the pools and fitness center; walking.

My husband has walking difficulty, and I find eating in the buffet a real hassle for me since I'm getting food for the two of us. We may just do better avoiding the buffet altogether unless there are waiters who assist with bringing plates to tables???

Can we go to the main dining room for lunch when we board the ship?

    Thank you.

  6. we recently booked a 10 night cruise aboard the Star Princess. We've mainly cruised with HAL, and have enjoyed one or two nights at their specialty restaurant (Pinnacle). We get a decent discount being past passengers. Does Princess offer this? What would be the preferred specialty restaurant on the Star and how would it compare to HALs? Also, are Princess specialty restaurants open for lunch?

    Thank you.

  7. We've vacationed on Eleuthera a few times. Great DIY flyfishing for bonefish. We never made it that far south, but I believe there's some great flats down there. I'd suggest looking at google earth and the surrounding area of where you'll be. If you're not a purist, they can be caught a bit easier with a spinning rod set-up too. But flyfishing for bonefish is the ultimate challenge. And the tides mean everything. Can't just go out and cast a fly. Do some reading; check the tides and hope for calm winds.

    Good luck.

  8. Looking for info on exactly what is included with this package. I've read various posts, but I still have a few questions:

-Are milkshakes available on the Star?

-one could order, say, a virgin margarita while lounging by the pool?

    -bitter lemon?

Any other things you could tell me about this? My husband would probably enjoy this package since he doesn't drink alcohol.

I'll definitely purchase the coffee card. Can I order specialty coffee (double espresso) in the main dining room?

    Thank you.

  9. We haven't cruised with Princess in several years. But we just booked a cruise aboard the Star for mid-February. We are Platinum members, and I read something about a lounge that offers a Happy Hour??? Hubby doesn't drink, but I enjoy a glass of wine (or two ;-) prior to dinner. What does a glass of wine cost? I also enjoy bringing a glass of wine back to the cabin to enjoy while getting ready for dinner.

    Thank you.

  10. Well... You have been a wealth of information in such short time, and I thank you. When looking at the deck plans, it doesn't appear that d733 has any more balcony space than other D's. But your pictures show otherwise. AND it does appear that D733 can have a queen bed - not 2 twins? I'd prefer the queen. So... It's come down to D733 or C301, c302 or C 303. Any last thoughts before I make that call tomorrow? And if I call Princess and book, can I then transfer the booking to our large-warehouse-agency (where they give a decent onboard credit)? Husband is also retired military. Nice to be back to Princess. And again... Thank you. Thank you. When initially considering this cruise, I thought any ol' cabin would do fine. But you've convinced me otherwise.

    :-)
