  1. Hi, can anyone tell me who the Cruise Director will be on Viking Jupiter in November?
  2. I live in a Scottish university town with thousands of American students. In coffee shops they can be with one friend across the table but their volume is such that you would think they are addressing everyone in the shop. I give them my evil stare but, although intellectually clever, they are socially unaware. They generally are incapable of turning down the volume and I am forced to listen to their chattering. On a cruise ship the restaurant manager, if aware of a potential problem, should be competent of having a discreet word with the boisterous individuals. Such behaviour should not be allowed to spoil the enjoyment of other guests.
  3. I quite understand the safety concerns. I particularly wanted to find out about the slave trade and its links with Liverpool and London in the UK. Cape Verde sounds much less interesting but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
  4. Thank you for your response. I think we will either join the included tour or do our own thing. We are so looking forward to the cruise and the extension in Buenos Aires. It seems a good mix of cities and sea days. I was looking forward to Dakar which has now been replaced with Cape Verde. Hope you have another cruise to look forward to.
  5. Thank you very much for your detailed response. It is very much appreciated. None of the Casablanca tours are very exciting. We are almost tempted to do our own thing in the city. So often now the included tours are simply a quick bus tour with little or no interaction with the locals. The Rick’s Cafe one would have been interesting but previous participants have not been enthralled.
  6. I have been booking our excursions for our upcoming cruise. This is the first day that excursions have been open for PV cabins. Unfortunately the above tour is already full. Is it likely that Viking will increase the number of spaces available? Is there a waiting list we can go on? Lastly is there another good tour in Casablanca that we should consider? Many thanks
  7. I’ve stood in the laundry room waiting for clothes to be removed from machines that have stopped. Machines tell you how long the program will take surely it’s not unreasonable to expect the user to return within 5/10 minutes of the end time? as for your ‘me first’ comment what are you trying to say?
  8. The ‘heartless folks’ are those that have no consideration for others and leave their washing in the machine for an unacceptable time after the program has finished.
  9. You’re correct. I should have made that clear. Having been to the majority of European capital cities Madrid would be in my top three.
  10. We have a holiday home in the Murcia region and have been to both cities. With limited available time, my advice would be to stay in Barcelona. There is so much to see both within the city and also the surrounding area. Having said that I never tire of Madrid. It is just so Spanish (I hope that doesn’t sound stupid). The food is amazing, the people lovely and there is a myriad of buildings and museums to visit. You can also tour the Royal Palace if the royal family are not in residence.
  11. It’s good to know you speak for all Viking passengers when they visit Mumbai. Taj is a large chain of hotels in India and abroad so perhaps the magnificent Taj Mahal deserves its proper name.
  12. Apologies when Clay said ‘the Taj’ I didn’t assume he was talking about the Taj Mahal.
  13. Apologies, I have not read all the pages in this thread. The Taj Mahal is magical but is 650 miles away. There is a lot to see and do in and around Mumbai. Travel is never easy in India and it would be simpler to visit the Taj Mahal from Delhi perhaps on another visit to the country.
  14. When people are in Mumbai and talk about the Taj they are referring to the hotel. You know what I mean? The Taj Mahal is 650 miles away.
  15. Taj is an international chain of hotels with its most renowned property in Mumbai. There is only one Taj Mahal.
  16. I take it you mean the Taj Hotel at the waterfront in Mumbai. We stayed there some years ago and were very disappointed. It was very busy with a business like feel to it. The room was poorly appointed and the food nothing special. If you mean the Taj Mahal, I wonder how you are to get there and back before the ship sails. Anyway we are very jealous of your WC plans. I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time.
  17. We love a cocktail or perhaps two before dinner. I would be interested to hear from well travelled cruisers which cruise line you believe has the best cocktail menu. I know specific requests can be made of the bar staff but it’s the printed menu that I’m focusing on. Also do the cocktails kick a punch or are they more sweet, flavoured water? Cheers 🍸🍹
  18. Read the Viking dress code and comply with it. Also remember your manners and no caps/hats at the dinner table. Lastly, I don’t mean to be offensive to the whole nation but, could some Americans please turn down the volume and speak more quietly when around other passengers?
  19. Wear what you want during the day but please abide by Viking’s dress code in the evening. Shorts and t-shirts are just not appropriate.
  20. Take details of any medications prescribed by your doctor. The list will be helpful if you require medical attention in the UK. When visiting Scotland come to St Andrews. We have thousands of students from the USA studying at our university. There will always be someone here to translate for you, if needed, 🤣
  21. I agree wholeheartedly with your views. We aim to eat at The Chef’s Table each time there is a menu change. Good Italian food is readily available in the UK so Viking have to pull out all the stops in this, what is now, mediocre restaurant.
  22. Don’t let my negative comments put you off. You will love Viking and the crew will cater for any dietary wishes you have.
  23. I agree, the food is of a high quality in the restaurant. Manfredi’s is a speciality restaurant that now falls short of ‘special’.
  24. My post was specifically about cheapening the menu in Manfredi’s.
