  1. I am presuming all this info( most 4 yrs old) doesn't apply unless the ship is leaving from a US port?

We are on a transatlantic sailing from UK that will have the final port in Miami, but we wish to disembark the previous day when the ship calls in at Port Canaveral. We've been told by our t/a & RCCL that we can do this, but we have to pay a small fee to RCCL for thr privilege. Of course we do not expect a reduction in the total cruise price, but we want to buy a drinks package, & have to purchase it for the total number of days, even tho we wont be on the ship at all the last day. Oh well, we will have to drink double the day before:evilsmile:

We left a transatlantic a couple of days early in May. We also had purchased drinks packages online before boarding, as it was on offer.

We were able to get a refund in the form of on board credit for the days we would not use. Just go to guest services & they should take care of it. It was really simple for us.

  2. Donna

Mike Hunnerup is replacing Gordon from late Sept to 28 November

We were hoping for Joff Eaton on our 2nd November sailing on the Ovation but he joins on 28th November - what do we know about Mike Hunnerup, his name pops up now and again, but is he good, bad or indifferent, what what I read there are mixed reviews. Thank you in advance of your replies

We had him on the Navigator a couple of years ago.

Our group nicknamed him MDF Mike. He had all the charisma of a plank.

  3. We were witness to a member of the cruise directors staff being horribly abused over a TRIVIA quiz.

My DH, who is the most placid man I know, sat there & listened for a minute & then got up & interceeded on the staff member's behalf.

The guy was obnoxious & squaring up to the crew member. My DH tried reasoning with him quietly, but he just wanted to shout & swear, so my DH told him what would follow if he didn't shut up immediately. His wife dragged him away in the end.

He went straight to guest services and put a complaint in about the crew member. Our group all provided written statements in support of the trivia host.

I was really shocked that DH stood up, when I asked him why, he simply said he can't abide bullies.

  4. We were repeatedly woken by neighbours having long, loud discussions in the early hours of the morning. We banged on the wall a couple of times....it made no difference. Every morning when we went to breakfast, we would hear loud snoring coming from the room. I figured if I couldn't sleep uninterrupted, why should they, so I called them & said "isn't it annoying when you are asleep and some inconsiderate a hole wakes you up?" No more noise after that.

  5. Did he say what the better use of the lounge would be?.

    Thanks.

If I recall correctly that comment was in relation to the small size of some lounges in relation to the number of D & D+ on ships. He said they were aware that the lounges were, in most cases not big enough to accommodate the numbers & they were looking at ways to improve this. He also said the Royal Caribbean has the best loyalty programme & that they were not going to dilute it.

  6. Interesting, I had not heard this. Of course, this could be a matter of semantics, as Diamond Plus members were not excluded from the Concierge Lounge either. They just renamed the Concierge Lounge.

He was quite clear that Diamond members would not lose lounge access. He's going to look really stupid if he goes back on that.

  7. We were on the Harmony 2 weeks ago. At the top tier event was a Q&A session with Michael Bayley, who joined the ship in Jamaica.

A diamond member asked him specifically about plans to stop them using the lounge & he assured her categorically that this was NOT going to happen. He said they were looking at ways to better use the lounge space, but this did not involve excluding diamond members.

  8. We are just off Vision and thought it was great including Captain Marek. His "never-ending" birthday lists were about 4-6 first names as in Happy Birthday to Joe, Moe, Tom, Mick and Harry. Are you sure your room speaker was not turned on. If there were 15 minutes of 7:30 am announcements, we never heard them. :D

The speaker in our cabin was off. Unfortunately, we had one of the hallway speakers directly outside our door, which caused the problem. A couple of cabins either way would have lessened the volume. I guess how never ending the list is, depends on how many people have birthdays. There were a lot on our sailing & in all honesty at that time of the morning, only necessary announcements should be made.

  9. Just read this posting and it did make me chuckle quite loudly, probably not as loud as a PA speaker next to your door at 7.30am !!!

I suppose every Capt is different, some you rarely here from or see.

A P&O Capt a couple of years ago used to do Thought for today. Which we used to look forward to.

He went on.... and on....and on. His morning announcements lasted for about 15 minutes, by the time he had finished reading his never ending birthdays list. The guy drove us nuts, to the point if we found out he was the Capt of a ship we were looking to book, we would find another ship.

Apart from him, we LOVE this ship.

  10. We have sailed the Vision twice and it is one of our favourite ships.

We had ample storage for the 2 of us (we don't travel light), but no fridge. We really like the service & food on the Vision in the MDR. Probably the best we have had. Chops was awesome. Giovanni's service and food, not so good.

We found Capt Marek to be a pain in the backside. We didn't care for him at all. The major annoyance was him doing birthday announcements at 7.30am. It was audible through the door from the speakers in the hallway & woke us every day.

  11. Thanks for the replies. It turned out that the wife hadn't read the T&C's properly. I always read them thoroughly but I didn't this time as I've just had surgery last week. The wife wanted to cheer me up with a cruise. We still got the 20% off and that's better than nothing particularly as it's nice of her to cheer me up with a cruise.

A cruise is guaranteed to cheer anyone up! I thought I'd mention the fact RCI are making it as clear as mud which ships qualify for the offer, as our friend was all excited at the prospect of $1200 OBC, only to see at the last second, despite the words includes promotion that there was no OBC on that sailing.

At least you now have a cruise to look forward to. Wishing you a speedy recovery from your surgery. :)

  12. I'm looking at Symphony for next May. I don't know about the 20% off but I know the OBC is double for the balcony.

The T&C's say otherwise I am afraid, (SY is Symphony). The promotion seems to be available until you click on the T&C's it then gives the exclusions. I've copied and pasted the first part of T&C's & highlighted relevant part. Our friends were SO close to booking before they checked the small print.

    1. The promotion is applicable to new bookings made between Friday 09th June 2017 and Tuesday 13th June 2017 on selected sailings of 6 nights or more departing between 1st July 2017 and 31st December 2018.
    2. Pricing is based on cruise only fares per person based on two people sharing the advertised stateroom (various categories) in GBP / EUR and inclusive of taxes.
    3. China sailings and guarantee stateroom bookings in Z, ZI, Y, YO, XN, X, XB, W & WS categories are excluded from the doule on board spend promotion.
    4. SY 2018 sailings and Transatlantic 2018 sailings are also excluded from Double On-Board Spend WOW promotion.
    5. 20% Cruise Fare Saving (all guests)
The 20% saving promotion is combinable with the Double Onboard spend promotion - saving of 20% off the prevailing cruise fare price for each guest booked into the stateroom. Other add-ons & amenities including, but not limited to, gratuities, air fares, hotels & transfers are not included & will not be reduced as part of this promotion.

  13. A thing to bear in mind with Oasis Class is that the CD is less visible than other ships.

Bobby was the most visible on Harmony, while I didn't see much of Jimmy/Oasis or Jerome/Allure around the ship.

I would bet Drew would be more visible on a Freedom Class ship.

Drew & my DH are friends. Drew told him that the main reason he was moving from the Oasis was because he missed the guest interaction. No welcome aboard shows etc. His job was basically staff management.
