  1. Hi,

please could you good people offer me some advice?

We are booked on a cruise to Alaska later this month..is it going to be cold ?

I assumed it would be very cold - given all the ice and snow around ! However, I just checked the weather for our various stops for May and its giving 50f as the average temperature. Is that right, is it really that warm?

We were going to pack very thick warm coats - but if this weather forecast is accurate, I won't bother as we are flying over from the UK and so any clothes we can avoid taking would be great.

Am I missing something ? Sorry if this is a daft question :o

thanks in advance for your help

    Imagine Blackpool love......with icebergs ;):p

    Have a fab time.

  2. Hi Daghis! You seem to be the most knowledgeable about the sweet! I am booked in August on the Freedom. Would you say the letters and the benefits are the same on the Freedom as they are on the Independence? I am getting quite excited seeing your letters!

We have been in the sweet on the Independence & last November on the Freedom. The letter we got on the Freedom was a generic "dear guest" black & white photocopy. Nothing like the colour personalised letter on on the Indy. There was no recognition of the sweet in our room when we boarded & we had to chase it with guest services. We were able to order of the suite dining menu on the Indy, but not on the Freedom. The benefits seem to vary from ship to ship, depending on who the concierge is. Raj on the Indy was great & filled us in on all the perks we could use, the Freedom concierge we had no interaction with.

  3. Did you notice that they are showing her returning first to Port Canaveral and then on to Miami?

    10th Nov 2016 (13 nights)

Ports of Call: Southampton, Funchal, Madeira, Tenerife, Cococay, Bahamas, Port Canaveral, Miami, Fly to the UK

That's the itinerary I have seen also. It does seem a bit of an odd one. It also says it is "subject to change", so maybe they are just filling in what they don't have confirmed to get it on sale.

  4. Under normal circumstances, you cannot remove prepaid gratuities. If my memory serves, I believe I once read here that someone got them removed by making a huge scene at Guest Services. I've not read that more than once, so it may not be reliable info.

Prepaid gratuities have been removed with no reason needed. I was behind a guy at guest services who removed the grats for four cabins on the Vision in Nov 14. No explanation for this was offered or asked for. I was amazed as I though prepaid meant prepaid! The were definitely NOT the added every day kind. Maybe he had an ongoing issue that was not discussed at that visit, but he asked if they would be credited back to his card or given in OBC.

  5. The Terms and conditions I copied are from the UK site. On the right hand side of the offer banner on the homepage.

The onboard credit offered for applicable sailings is currently doubled from $150 to $300, I booked the Navigator earlier in the week & got $300 + OBC for using a next cruise certificate and the drinks package.

Hope it works out for you. :)

  6. We were dining in Portofino's on the Indy T/A in Nov 2012. A table of 3 near us got into a heated argument, which degenerated into them throwing drinks at each other.

One of the women, then called the guy she had thrown a drink at the "C" word. I HATE that word & pulled her up on her language, she then went stamping out of the restaurant leaving the guy dripping wet.

The poor wait staff were beside themselves, not knowing how to deal with the situation, luckily as she left almost everyone burst out laughing. We & the other couple we were dining with, still joke about it now.

A screaming kid though......that's another matter.

  7.

RCI were definitely at the Excel cruise show in January 2014, as we booked 2 cruises with them at this show. We were really surprised not to see them in 2015, as the stand seemed to be busy the year before.

  8. Well, just to share an update on the trip in Sept. We had a heart to heart and we ARE going!!! We have even decided to spend some extra time in Venice before the cruise. I really appreciate all of the insight from everyone. We have not really traveled out of the US further than the Caribbean and Mexico. We have had to postpone this trip before because I was fighting breast cancer.

I read hubby all the posts and he agreed life is too short to stay home when we have an opportunity like this.

On another point----he will no longer believe anything he hears on Fox News!!!!!

    thank you all!

    Have a wonderful trip.

  9. Living in the UK, my opinion, for what it's worth is as follows: Unfortunately, so called "experts" on US news have not helped the situation. Here in the UK we cannot believe the garbage we have heard. Especially from Steve Emerson on Fox news, telling the world that there are religious police on the streets, Muslim cities & no-go areas for non-muslims. It's simply not true. I honestly feel as safe today as I always have & would not change any of my travel plans.

  10. We were on the Vision last month & like you I was concerned. I needn't have worried. Yes we did have some minor issues & the CD was awful, but left the ship the same day as we did so that's no longer a problem. We had been on the Freedom 2 weeks before the Vision & smelled sewage at some point on both cruises, so it's not limited to the Vision. I would do this cruise again tomorrow.

  11. We usually put it in our checked luggage with no problem....up until the Vision out of Tampa last month. We were called to the naughty room where we unpacked our 2 bottles of wine which were then checked for signs of tampering. According to the RCL employee, people are filling wine bottles with spirits to try and get liquor onboard. Our 2 bottles were corked and sealed, so there was no issue with them. We try to take the bare minimum of carry on with us, so I will continue to pack it in my checked luggage, it only seems to be Tampa that favour the over zealous approach. There were also no signs visible at Tampa when we boarded 29 Nov. I think these may be a very recent addition.

  12. We are sailing Vision of the Seas out of Tampa for a New Years Cruise. We would like to know what time they start letting people off the ship.

    Thanks,

    Dave

On 6th December, the people carrying their own luggage off started to leave at around 9.15. The first numbers were called after 10am. It wasn't the best organised.

  13. We got off the Vision yesterday. It wasn't the best cruise we had ever had, but not the worst by a long shot. We enjoyed the MDR food for the most part. We are in our 40's, & always found stuff to do during the day if we wanted to & we were sorry to leave. There were only 70 kids on the ship, but we only heard one of them...there wasn't a single place this kid didn't throw a tantrum!

The downsides were the boarding and leaving process were slow and disorganised. The cruise director very poor, but he left the ship yesterday too, so that's good news. The activities manager was also poor, but the entertainment staff (with the exception of Mo) were good fun. The "Headliners" were mostly awful.

The rudeness of some of the passengers took our breath away on more than one occasion, obviously please and thank you have been forgotten in some people's vocabulary.

For the most part, we enjoyed it and we would do it all over again tomorrow.

  14. Excellent, thanks Sue .... nice that they are starting to process it - and it does certainly sound like we had the same issues. ;)

I dealt with Natasha Abner following our transatlantic on the Navigator last November. She actually telephoned me less than 48 hours after I sent my email. Everything was resolved by telephone & email without any mention of involving the UK office...maybe you should drop her a line.?
