  1. Yes, I considered but rejected the spa. I get an occasional massage at home from a provider who values my repeat business and is accordingly as gentle as my I may require. And I get pedicures at a place whose cleanliness is impeccable from a technician who understands my issues and stops if I need her to. I cruise only once a year so I don’t have the same relationship or clout with the providers aboard ship. The shops seem like a better venue.

  2. We will be on Mariner soon. Previously we were on the Navigator. A few years back we were on a Crystal Cruise with fantastic clothing offerings and sales staff— Joseph Ribkoff clothing among others,. It was never equaled on any other cruises whether Crystal, Regent, or other lines— I think it was the sales manager aboard who displayed and advised so well. It’s a good “problem” to have to decide what to buy!

  3. We are taking the 18 day Canal cruise on 7/20 from SF to Mia. Regarding Malaria and Yellow fever shots I checked with our TA who checked with Regent who then told us to check with my doctor. Our doctor said she did's see the shots as necessary. (I'm 72 and my wife is 66). Nevertheless I decided to take Malaria pills, DEET, and a few long sleeve shirts. I'm not worried at all on this cruise.

You are in the cruise just after ours.

  4. I'm not certain that either my TA or Regent have the "right" information. In fact even my internist who I trust implicitly said that at my age (72) there are pros and cons for any vaccinations and as far as my Panama Canal is concerned, it is up to me. In other words, as many posters have already said, it's up to the passenger to become informed and then to make their own personal decision. I'm just looking forward to the cruise and if anything or anyone bites me I intend to bite it/them back. :) Look forward to meeting all of you!!!

Ever since I had chemotherapy a few years ago, mosquitoes love me.

  5. We are leaving on the Navigator in a couple of weeks and haven't made a decision about the shot and pills for Colombia and Guatemala. I would appreciate your thoughts because it seems that everyone who has been on a similar cruise did not get them for the half day excursions?

We didn't get any on our previous Canal cruises but the ship recommends the malaria pills for this one so we got them, and the travel nurse said to get typhoid and hepatitis too based on the itinerary, but advised against yellow fever for anyone over age 65, saying the side effects were as bad as the disease. It may be unnecessary but I feel safer.

  6. I was annoyed to find that free wifi means one account per cabin. We will pay for an extra unlimited one because we will likely want to check email and read news at the same time just as we do at home and on Crystal. Doing it sequentially would waste time.

Amenities for the lowest category on Navigator are listed here. Lotions, shampoos and soaps are replenished daily. There is a magnifying mirror in each cabin.

    • FREE Unlimited WiFi*
    • 24-Hour Room Service
    • L’Occitane® Mer & Mistral Soaps, Shampoos & Lotions
    • Vanity & Hair Dryer
    • Direct Dial Satellite Phone

  7. I think people with negatives are more likely to write in and vent their frustrations. I am hopeful that the ship will indeed prove comfortable and luxurious. When I left a message with a question someone from Regent called me within 12 hours, indicating good service.

Ship recommends malaria pills. The local travel nurse suggests also getting vaccinations against typhoid, yellow fever, and she merging else. We are debating which to get.

  8. Does open seating mean show up when you will, or do we need to make specific reservations for the main dining room? That would be a chore because it's a 22 day cruise and we have sel cited tours which may return close to the dinner hour and have to guesstimate when they will really get us back and how long it will take us to freshen up--will we want to bathe before changing for dinner-- How have you handled this?

We have sailed often on Crystal and Silversea but this is our first trip on this line.

  9. I have sailed QE2 about 20 years ago in regular class, Princess, and Queen. We are going on the QM2 and have the opportunity to upgrade from the regular class partially blocked view that was the only thing available when we booked. What are the benefits of P and Q aside from different dining rooms?
