  1. Love the stories...so much fun...it says a lot,,,people want breaks and good value for them. Not always 5 star for family things... Even folks with a bit more money are managing it and trying to save and keep their lifestyles...some are earning with Carnival.

  2. OK so my nephew's soon to be bride posted a funny joke to him...I will try to summarize.

He lost his real dad at 5 and his mom and my dad and my brother-in-law helped him alot with cowboy and hunting things...he is one of best hunters in family..especially bow hunting and he and his sweetie like game and even hunting together sometimes...and both fish.

    To whom it may concern...

I have a complete white tail hunting trip payed for

    at $4900.00 (WHEREVER).

I forgot everything and scheduled it at same

    time as my wedding.

It is a beautiful little church,

ADDRESS and DATE is (so and so) and wedding is at

    1:00 pm.

She is a real fine woman.

    (he he)

    Still looking forward to news...

  3. You both are keepers. It is so sweet...this is mutual learning curve on your or anybody else's rhythms of similar heart, but somehow I thing you will both end up with "hair and combs"...remember that story. I just hope there is this magic being there for the baby in middle of the ship out to sea time....

I wish great abundance for twice the trip soon enough. Happy Wed Eve. We are all in suspense!!!

  4. Great thread on multiple reasoning's and ways to think through your options...always great to re-tune up on these plans and ways to do it.

If in your budget and it is a good placed cabin...that is the key OP..I would try it myself.

I am of the belief that an inside to myself at the right time and placement on ship was as great as a mini-suite on a more upscale line with more perks and a dear friend. It all varies and it is nice to do the best you can within reason and your budget, each time.

  5. Thank you all so much for your advice. I looked into the Verizon gift cards and I'll use them to pay off the balance on the cruise. So, an extra 10% off my cruise plus my account on board. So that was an awesome surprise. We're both not really big drinkers so I'm not too worried about the bar tab. But we will probably want to do the steakhouse and I've heard great things about the chef's table so we may do that the 2nd week.

Sounds great and have a wonderful time. Thanks for coming back and have a wonderful time...thanks again for your service. Your choices make a well priced cruise, and very nice cruise, have some 5 star extras at great prices.

It is not the Motel 6. A great time is had by many.

  6. I was on my honeymoon when Samantha Brown was on board the Carnival Freedom to film an hour long special. We met her following the Love and Marriage show that she co-hosted and then I found my way into four or five scenes in the final product.

That is fun. I love her. My sister says she is just too perky...lol. I even got that cd!! Probably a collector.

  7. How true.

I once met the great actor George Kennedy, and Kris Kristofferson on different cruises. Also walked past Liza Minnelli and friend in a hallway.

Of course, those were on Cunard.

I saw Liza through a whole play in London when I was 26..she was in the seat in front of me and then during the break you could here her in the special box for celebs behind me...small theater. Small world..LOL. They were on the way back to the Ritz in one fancy car afterwords. I heard the plan...lol.

My Chiropractor in Oregon makes a TON and he chose Carnival for his family cruise with kids to Mexico once..lol..an Non celebrity..except for Portland level..

Thanks for backing up my next possible cruise.

Fun thread..we are all famous here for our choices...:).

  8. He could not schedule different time..it was yes and risk it or no; because it was a with friends deal.

OP still think you are cool to suck it up and stand by wife..and this is just your vent. Lol on the future lawnmower. Just a good buddy I hope..nothing like my nieces and nephews to me. I skipped having kids this time around. Now so cute to see who the next group runs to...the boys pick the big voiced and big guys in the room at a certain age...lol.

  9. Could not agree more! I HATE paying for air to cruise. if I do it, it's because I'm really getting bang for my buck.

Take a look at Alliegent air in to Daytona. When you see the fares, you might find it worth driving to an airport you might not have thought of, and parking at the backwater airports they use is usually much cheaper. You'll get a direct flight, saving the money you might spend keeping busy at a connecting airport. Just be sure to fly in the day before, especially with them.

I also agree, and I may go down in "newer ship" to ok ship with older things I like; to places I have never been; to make it a 16 day with 10 day back to back cruise portion of trip.

Also: Wanted to emphasize if you take a cooler, there are restrictions...but "I think if you pack a foldable one" it can be larger...verify this. The carry on ones larger than I think 12 by 12" are taken. They do not want folks rolling on big ones to sort through.

  10. :D:D Again, your attitude is GREAT!!!!!!

Those damn Guys Burgers.......Get you all the time!!!:D

LOL..It think you said you are a keeper...

So agree OP...they do not cut them out like you much anymore. Giving hurts and is worth it and you know when. It all fine tunes into something better IMHO...when we can not put ourselves first all the time. Even when it is not fair...and has deeper wisdom on the "why" of it.

I hope you end up just loving this baby, I am a great aunt now and it melts me. I just is awesome. And a bit of an epidemic for my group...lol.

  11. Have you considered calling about your situation again. I was dealing with Customer service on a totally unrelated issue but it took 3 inquires. 2 denials followed by 1 compromise  Now I didn't get exactly what I felt was correct, but I did get satisfaction.

Something would be better than nothing. No refund, but credit (even partial) towards a future cruise would be nice. Some reps are more helpful than others.

    I agree here, wonderful remarks.

  12. Trust me. He will never live it down.

And listen, my wife is a great woman, she just made a bad call here in my opinion. That bad decision will be confirmed when the kid isn't even here yet by Saturday, our scheduled day to return. She certainly isn't happy by any means that she had to choose to stay back.

All I can do tonight is sit in my room wondering what the other two couples are doing right now. They have probably already eaten a Guy's burger and a chocolate melting cake. Those jerks. Hahah

You are great...wonderful way to vent and good responses. I am with who sad "you're a keeper." In the end the whole thing makes for better and better give and take for you and your wife..sound's like she is a keeper too.

Compromise and wisdom about certain family situations and what they mean to the other; whatever the issue; seem to take the lead in your marriage and that is worth millions in the end. IMHO. Congrats and I am sorry. I missed all of siblings births in my family and am sad about it a bit; but that has nothing to do about what you are doing and yet everything. I did not "compromise" and go there living further away. It was complicated as well; like life. Kudos.

  13. I hope she had trip insurance.

This happened a couple of weeks ago. 79 year-old woman decides to go by herself up to Mendenhall glacier and took a wrong turn. She didn't make it back to the ship (Coral Princess), and spent the night out in the wilderness. Story here. She got lucky.

Amazing story...have to think about your cost to others on a solo adventure...with the years as they roll...

  14. Often there is a best placed hot tub and showers and steam rooms either part of spa but free or separate from spa and free...as well as special serenity area. If a port is not what you like or one time you want to eat later in room or at specialty dining. Meal and show times and port times.... these areas can be more quiet.

Read the definitive cheers thread and some things about the soda packages and think what you like to drink. Fancy booze and coffees if important can be enjoyed for less without all the time drinking to be drunk... also in not drink huge amounts if you want to try fancy wines, beer, and coffees..but if you just want a couple of cocktails. beer buckets etc, and your 12 pack of soda and one bottle of wine each for each cruise is enough...alot is saved. You will have to figure how to go and get the extra for second cruise or maybe they will store for you??? Someone will chime in or call and ask.

They will keep a bottle of wine for you in main dining room if one does you for 2 nights as a couple....I just loved that as a solo...

Most people who are moderate in drinking do better w/o cheers for the price with above caveats.

Research your ports on the port boards here to see what you do want and do not want...get good referrals from here if you go separate from ship's tours...and find out clearly they are good with time...missing the ship blows the budget..lol. As many have said some places are just about enjoying a beach there or the port shops and others have a serious wonderful thing you will want to do. Many have a fairly good resort fee at a better beach with so many extras that are cost competitive to a tour...it all varies.

Get an idea and then have some freedom also to have some ship time on a port to really maximize an area of ship you want to try that will then be less crowded. I did this in scenic Cabo and basically had the whole view and a waiter to myself..only a few patrons..the lido became a private restaurant with all of that view and everything going on in water...

Many people argue about this but there are extra expenses avoided on emergencies if you buy a rather inexpensive insurance package that could get you and spouse a medivac from a foreign port ..or a stay there and cost of betting home and cruise insurance and baggage loss etc.and some things that most wise people feel is being being penny wise and pound foolish to avoid buying..for a two week or back to back cruise you can figure cost and coverage by looking at a site like insure my trip dot com. it is better not to buy from the cruiseline for coverage and usually better coverage for less. I do not know if service offers travelers insurance.

If you like spa and special saunas all the time, look into spa packages.

For one special spa service they offer specials on the ship as time goes along...like your wife getting a hairdo or something.

The continental breakfast and free items on room service are just enough to really add alot..You only have to tip a dollar or two for delivery for the "free" items which are the majority. At a hotel you would be paying so much for that and I LOVE that. People like Blt's and choc cake alot. Ask for toast and crispy bacon on blt..or ask for how you like something...they can usually do it.

Bringing water flavorings and coffee flavorings can be a savings and hit. I like the room service coffee with their cream and sugar.

Make a limit on the casino and stick to it. Or skip altogether. Sometimes they have rather inexpensive slot pull tournaments. Check the roll call for your cruises here under your cruiseline headings and see about that and a cabin crawl to see all cabins and a cocktail party if the whole group has a meet and greet, sometimes well attended sometimes not..all of this is optional not a have to at all. Depends on what you like and want..it is your time.

I have had to go on a super budget a few times and still felt so spoiled. Having a portable folded and packed cooler for your beers you buy on ship or pop you bring on that you can unpack and have room service bring ice 2x a day is great. Or they usually can bring you a bucket bigger than the little ice on if the have those on your ship.

Thank you so for your service...seriously...if you know how to get along with people and you do..and are just polite enough and you are..people will bend over backwards to see you have a great time..just ask. You are preparing and will have a wonderful time.

One more dumb thing...you can ask for an extra comforter to be put under bottom sheet or more pillows etc..but bedding and beds are usually very nice.

  15. I am terribly behind on current music but there are a couple of mainstream/country singer cruises comming up not connected with other pro company as mentioned. I should say I assume not connected as I saw them while personally hunting cruises in genral on regular TA/airlines site.

  16. My hands smell like a cruise!:D (my expensive cheap lotion just arrived:p) I'm going to put some of this stuff into a travel size squeeze bottle and take it with me on my cruise next month, so my 7th Pride cruise can smell like my first.:p

We are remodeling DH's bathroom, and so all the stuff from his bathroom cabinet is sitting in a heap in our bedroom. Walking past that heap last night, I happened to look down and see 3 Schick Hydro 5 razors (all from Carnival cruise freebie bowls), still in their packaging. Thought of this thread and laughed.:p

You re-found the free mother lode!!:D

  17. The way I read this, the honeymooners are out of Miami and the OP has one for herself to Bermuda. She can not use theirs too, to not loose some...and make her cruise too.

Sorry OP and good luck...you do not need all the insurance questions that will roll in and that is personal choice to cover for oneself.

I think with lots of smart planning on spray and going to places they no doubt work on..keeping it more touristy..some good deals can be made with this Zika. It is concerning..mostly in poverty areas with high pregnancy populations..and water issues..it is so sad.

  18. He'd have a great time. We talked my mom into cruising with us. My aunt came along to keep her company. We upgraded them to the balcony cabin next to ours, and we all had a wonderful time :).

Thank you for encouragement...:)..Truly I need every one because I weaken and then try try again.

He is a crabby my way or the highway guy who occasionally goes with the flow now that we are at the great grands and two sets of mothers to outdo him lol. Occasionally he is wonderful especially as a friend and in a social fun experience; everyone's favorite REAL cowboy and businessman in many situations and the first to help in a real ranch disaster..even here at the ranchettes. Strung up Montana style and nothing happens but a disaster on a ranch style and those special times you get him to mellow with you on the same page are awesome and I am better and better at it lol.

I think cruising is so great for him now with come and go sciatica.

That fly there and not drive and pull horses all the time would be a good deal to discover; but I am not not going to push it anymore; I tried that. He cruised 2 times with mom; once with 2 youngest girls of his and then with a grandchild....

Just not me..and I could repeat for him if all he wants is to do Alaska again..I want to be in NW Montana and talk him into something from west coast being closer there...pack and be ready...lol..we will see. The proper amount of sneaky.

I might give..a casual mention once in a while on a deal...catch him in right moment. And trying to spend more time with him each year is my goal. As tough as he is one knows what is ahead...and I am not ready...sigh...thanks again for encouragement. He is such a ornery low patience solo unit western type...the good bad and ugly of it. But he can be charming and fun and honestly loving and surprise himself!!

And again OP...just have a great time...:).

It rarely is as bad as our worries and if you take the best and leave the worst..maybe some tips here help...

  19. Absolutely love the update and the planning learning.

I have flown on Allegiant once with a package deal to Vegas. Had to wait hours and hours at my home airport due to it being late...very late..like get to destination on a short one way flight 9 hrs late. They are horrible to contact after the plan. Let us know on the refund.

They were however a Godsend on last years Sept. Vegas/concert one week vacation for me. Three major concerts at Ceaser's meant needing a deal and got a great budget hotel with free Ceaser's (spell check not helping) shuttle and I survived. Hotel and air for one week...$800.00. Newly redone budget hotel with some extra restaurants like a Carnival Cruise..not a Vegas fantasy hotel and perfect and quiet with free good in-room coffee ( a rarity in the fancy hotels). Concert tickets...$600.00. And it was soooo worth it. LOL.
