We did not grab any pics of the sofabed unfortunately. The bed came out lengthwise, so like the back of the sofa became the headboard, and the two armrests were still there. The section where the seats of the sofa were when it was folded in was the least comfortable, the middle section was a little better but not much, and the last like foot or so at the very end of the bed was actually quite comfortable.

So, you sleep perpendicular, but the seat cushions become the mattress.  Well, at least my sister and I will fit.  Hopefully we'll be able to speak with the room attendant.  Do we know if there is someone I can email to possibly have some extra padding or something in there before we even get to the room?  I don't think it's a special needs issue...or maybe it is.

  2. I, too, am overweight, as are my sister and niece who will be cruising in a JS (with my mom)on the Navigator in January.  My sister and I shared a sofabed on the Explorer a few years ago, and it was awful.  I was told the sofabeds in the JS on NoS are like the ones in a home with mattresses, and not the kind in which the seats and seatbacks become the mattress (like on the Explorer).  I am expecting the sofabed to be terrible again.  I feel like we are going to be squooshed on there.  Was the sofabed the type in which you sleep lengthwise, or perpendicular?  We are going to ask for a rollaway and cross our fingers.  Do you have any pics of the sofabed set up?

No, no need for a note.  I generally bring the papers with the prescription on them that they staple to the bag in the envelope where I keep all of my cruise documentation and important paperwork, but I've never needed to show it.  That's also quite possibly me being paranoid.

    Thanks.  I don't think you're paranoid...just well-prepared.

I travel with insulin and have never needed a note. I can see where you might need one if it's in a syringe, but even then, if you show a vial of something with a pharmacy label on it, it shouldn't be a problem.  (FWIW, I don't use syringes....my insulin is in pens).

Thanks.  We haven't cruised in a while, but the last few times we did, my mom was told by the TA that she needed to have a note from her Dr that she was on an injectable (insulin pens).  The TA would fax the note and tell us to bring the original with us.  I don't recall ever being asked to show the note, so I'm not sure if faxing was even necessary.  Anyway, I am currently on an injectable med (Victoza pen) and we will be cruising in January.  I wasn't sure if we still needed to fax or bring a note or not.

Thank you for being a mind reader.

I answered directly what I took to be a direct question.

But I see that you didn't answer her at all.

After I read your answer, I re-read what I originally wrote and thought "oh my goodness, that just sounds silly."  I can only imagine what you thought.

The tram route is illustrated on this map in blue.

It starts near the CocoCay sign, goes to the right around Thrill Water park, behind the balloon,  around the back side of Oasis Lagoon and along Chill Island ending near the Chill Island Grill where it turns around and goes back the other way.

That's the one I downloaded.  I had assumed that the tram went on a complete circuit, but when I looked at this map, it didn't appear so.

I understood what you meant, I don't have the answer though as I have not been there since it was revamped. Some people just can't help being sarcastic.

Thanks.  I knew what I wanted to say, but my fingers typed something else.

The pier has golf cart like vehicles that run to the tram station near Thrill Water park.

The island tram is larger and it does the route around the island, turning around at Chill Island and returning along the same route in the opposite direction.

So, the route isn't a complete circle or circuit.  That's what the map looked like.  If I wanted to go to the part of chill island that is by the beach bungalows, snorkel shack, straw market, etc., I would walk since the tram doesn't go there...right?

  9. Are there 2 trams at Cococay...1 for the pier and 1 for the island?  Also, does the pier go all the way around the island?  I downloaded a map that indicates tram route and walking paths, and it looks like the tram route ends at the far end of Chill Island.  I've seen conflicting info, so I wanted to confirm with someone who has been there recently.

these look very nice. i have never seen them offered in the pre cruise planning section on the RCI website. I have a Chill Island cabanna reserved for our cruise in Dec buy this option looks nice too

I am going on the Navigator in January, and I keep checking online.  They still haven't shown up.  A message from RC says they will, but I'm not so sure.

  11. According to an RCI agent I contacted, there are "chairs" on the beaches.  I have not seen any pics of them, so not sure if this info is correct.  Maybe I can drag a chair over if need be.  Also, the agent told me that some things are just not on the inventory list yet, but keep checking.  Again, not sure how correct this is.  Sometimes I think agents just want to get info out there, correct or not.  I feel like people here tend to know more.

‘Did you see the photo I posted in an earlier post. They are the chairs I have seen at both Coco Cay and Labadee.

I personally took that picture at the entrance to South Beach in May, 2019. I was on Adventure. Chill Island was not open then so I have no idea of the actual layout there. Can you reserve loungers there ? As for parking the wheelchairs or scooters this is something we have been asking for. If it’s a manual chair you could probably leave it at the check in to Chill Island. You could probably leave an electric one or scooter if you want to chance it. Accessibility is definitely a work in progress at Coco Cay.

I saw that, but wasn't sure how recent it was.  There are a few things you can reserve on Chill Island.  The bungalows have not yet appeared for our cruise, but RC says they just haven't been added to the inventory yet.  My mom has a manual chair.  We'd like to leave it where it feels safe to.  Maybe other people will leave theirs somewhere and we can do the same.

See my reply to orkaren1 above. As far as I could tell the footrest is permanent. You could try sitting on side above the tire and slide back. I would put a towel over the tire and then try to use it as a transfer sheet. Sorry I didn’t try one out. If your mom can walk a short distance I would do what I did. I asked security to let me park my scooter on Deck 1 (which they did), walked off got on tram (they come up to gangway), took tram to bungalows and then you can transfer to the beach wheelchairs or walk if close enough. Hardest part was walking on the sand to bungalow. All of my other post applies for your question too.

If leaving a wheelchair or scooter on Deck 1, best procedure is to try not to leave immediately upon docking as it gets crazy down there so less likely they can accommodate you immediately and to ask Security don’t just leave it.

A place to park wheelchairs and scooters near the gangway is on our wish list at the Royal Caribbean Accessible Cruises group.

ANYONE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND/OR TRAVELS WITH SOMEONE WITH WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IS WELCOME. THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS AND THIS IS THE FIRST GROUP I HAVE FOUND THAT FULFILL THIS NEED.

Thanks.  I've tried looking up pictures of beach wheelchairs at cococay, and have found pictues of different kinds that all claim to be the ones at cococay.  Some have less of a footrest, some have a bigger space between the footrest and the seat so you could step in that space and sit, some have longer armrests, etc.

We'll have to see when we get there.  I was hoping someone would have a rough estimated measure of how far the walk would be from the pavement when we got to chill island to the closest set of beach loungers.  That way, we could have my mom walk that distance to see if she would feel ok come cruise time.  As far as leaving her regular wheelchair, I thought maybe people just kinda left them in a certain spot like at Disney.  There always seems to be a collection of wheelchairs and strollers in undesignated spots.

  14. Does anyone know how close a paved walkway is to the first set of loungers at Chill Island?   We're curious to know how far we will be pushing my mom on the sand.

How easy/hard is it to transfer to a beach wheelchair?  Does the footrest fold away or something so a person can get close to the seat before sitting?  Pics or vids of someone getting in one would be awesome...it would help put my mom's mind at ease since she is afraid she won't be able to get in one.

Also, is there an official, or even unofficial, area to leave the regular wheelchairs?  Can we bring a bicycle lock and secure them somewhere?
