  1. Are there all that many cruise ships small enough to dock in Salem?

We are building up our port so more will be here.

  2. My DH and I are looking at taking a 10 nighter out of Ft. Lauderdale in Feb 2016. The cruise has 4 nights at sea. I know virtually nothing about Serenade and wonder if there will be enough to do and if it will be big enough for us.

To help....I have loved the Royal Promenade on the ships I've been on with that and am sailing on another with it in 50 days. My DH and I also loved Enchantment of the Seas. It was set up entirely differently of course but didn't seem small. There was plenty going on too, including ballroom dancing which we really liked! I have also been on Monarch, which I really did NOT like.

So...will we like Serenade or should we find a different cruise?

    TIA!

We did a Hawaiian cruise on the Radiance this spring with 5 sea days and we were concern about boredom. We both had a great time and always found something to do. It also was very nice to sleep in with no real plans, which never happens to me.

  3. Whenever you go someplace new, you should read up on it...a guidebook is MOST helpful! Libraries are free!

Searching online is free and the information on sites like cruise critic and tripadvisors is always updated with new reviews from real people. You'll have so many opinions but you can weed out some of them easy. Guidebooks can be so outdated and biased to the authors choices. Arubalisa is really one of the experts of Aruba. She helped us make good choices.

I agree with trikes aruba but there are many ways of seeing Aruba if motorcycles are not your thing. You will have a full day if you just decide to go to the Palm Beach area to shop, eat, beach and/or drink. Have fun. Aruba is fun.

  4. When the Grande is lacking for business they will relax the dress code a little. I know a lot of people enjoy dressing up in formal clothes but there will not be enough cruisers every night to justify staying fancy. Love the old culture of cruising but it is being faded out unless you want to go on the luxury cruise lines. The old ways are declining and major line cruising is about fun and relaxing. Cruise lines know this just some of the old-fashioned cruisers are just starting to understand it. Eat what you want when you want it and squezze it into your personlized schedule.

Now I hope they stop the singing waiters who on international night don't even carry the flags of their nations. And Phillipines servers singing Italian songs. It is so lame. First cruise it was fun but enough. Plus with MTD everyone is eating at different times and it cuts into the varied time diners service.

  5. Looks Like we will be joining you on this tour as I can't find anything else in Martinique.

It sounds like an enjoyable introduction to Martinique even though it is a group tour. First time on any island is always a mystery. Next time we will be pros.

  6. There are loads of beach bars on the beaches in Aruba. Sometimes you can go bar hopping with all the Happy Hours.

Amstadam Manor has the Passions on the Beach bar opened for daytimes. Very comfortable and Eagle Beach is better than Palm beach. It is at a bus stop so easy to get to and easy to get back to port. The beach bar has good food and drinks. Also other places to eat and drink nearby.

The Bugaloo and Moomba bars are more action and fun but the beaches are not as nice. Moomba beach is more of a working pier with fishing and tour boats. Bugaloo is more crowded. We loved all three and spent time at all of them.

As for guidebooks I found they go out of date too fast. Digital real-time information is fresh and not just one authors view. Cruise Critic and Tripadvisor are the best.

  7. We have been on the Kukoo Kunuku at night on a bar crawl. The guides are a lot of fun but not sure we would want to be on the bus all day. Aruba is hot and dusty when you go inland. There are so many snorkel trips just a short taxi or bus ride away. We did a day sail on the Jolly Pirate and a sunset sail on Red Sail Sports both were great. We also did the Aruba-trikes which was an excellant excursion. Eagle beach is one of the best beaches in the world with lots of watersports.

  8. South Panoramic with Beach - MT27

You will discover the South of the Island, enjoying time that you will spend at POINTE MARIN beach. Returning to your ship via the Atlantic coast, you will see nice landscape views.

This is the excursion we have booked for our January 2015 cruise.

I am trying to accomplish two things.

    1) Has anybody taken the tour or know anything about it?

    2) When we get back from our cruise I will review it here.

As you all know Martinique has very little about their excursions. Even though lately there has been some information posted on these boards about it. So I will try to fill the gaps a little bit. Thanks everybody.

  9. here's a link to my review of our Hawaiian cruise in 2012/13 (actually our third time doing this itinerary) and post #139 starts our day in Kauai on 12/26/13 and our Movies and Waterfalls tour (which we enjoyed):

Yes' date=' they use Roberts. I'm not sure how the recent fire at the Coco Palms will affect that particular stop, though.[/quote']

We just read the news article about the fire at Coco Palms. That is so sad. From the footage we could see the giant conch shell the was hanging from the breezeway on fire. Now the wife wants to go back and stay if and when it is rebuilt. Just one more reason to go back to Hawaii and that is not a bad thing.

  10. Yeah my wife and I just did this excursion in April. We did have a Roberts tour. It is a lot of interesting sites. The highlights for us were the Elvis's Blue Hawaii hotel the Coco Palms and the South Pacific pier and beach. The lunch was good and the Mai Tais you can purchase with it were refreshing.

There is information in other posts on this board plus go to tripadvisor.com.

    Have fun.

  11. First you might want to ask the Marriott if your rates include their free buffet breakfast. When we booked we didn't have this package but saw a promotion for less $ that included the free buffet. Saved $100 and had free food.

We also ate some meals at the resort. We had a dinner at dk Steakhouse and Sansei both were very good but not cheap. You can eat their pool bar. Next door is the Tiki Grill which isn't too pricey and it is a fun place.

Not too far is Cheeseburger in Paradise which is fairly priced. Dukes is a few blocks away and it was a great place for lunch but another not cheap.

There is so many places nearby just walk around and see which one suits you. Have fun it is a great area.

We were on Marriotts 24th floor with an amazing diamond head - Waikiki beach view. Incredible!

  12. We loved the tour when we went at the end of April. We were on RCCL Jewel of the seas and the tour was Movies and Waterfalls also. It was ship sponsered and was a tour by Roberts.

Our highlights were the Elvis's Coco Palms/Blue Hawaii hotel. Even though it was run-downed it was interesting. Larry Riveria was a charming man who played at the Coco Palms for 60 years and was in the movie.

The other highlight was my wife singing "I'll was that man right out of my hair" on the South Pacific pier.

  13. I'm so glad you're alive!! What a relief! LOL Did you take pictures?!?! I'd love to hear all about your trip to my state (especially what you did on the other islands, as I plan on island hopping next year)!

I was having battery problems with my camera so used my Ipad a lot. So taking selfies with a Ipad while driving would have been unsafe. And you know how some people worry about me. YIKES!!

We did so much. Two of our highlights were the Kaui Hollywood in Hawaii tour and the Kona Body Glove snorkel.

Waikiki was fun and not as crowded as we read. New York City with palm trees?? No way even though there is Palm trees. Dks steakhouse, Sansei sushi and Dukes were all so tasty.

Circle the island Polyensian Cultural, diamond head and Pearl Harbor were all interesting.

Maui we did Ka'anpali beach, whalers Village and fantastic Old Lahaina Luau.

    Waterfalls and volcanos in Hilo.

Thank heavens we had 5 sea days before heading home.

I have been slowly but surely been putting reviews on Tripadvisor. I am still hoping to post a CC review with pictures but too busy working at this point.

  14. Our tour in Kauai is Hollywood in Hawaii tour and this is the itinerary and what was filmed there.

Wailua Falls - Fantasy a Island, Amazing Race, Tropic Thunder

    Hanamaula Bay - Donovan's Reef

    Opaekaa Falls - Donovan's Reef

    Coco Palms- Blue Hawaii

    Kapaa Town - Jurassic Park

Aliomanu - six days Seven nights

    Moloaa Bay - Gilligans Island

    Tahiti Nui - The Descendants

    Hanalei Valley - Uncommon Valor

Hanalei Bay - Miss Sadie Thompson

    Hanalei Pier - South Pacific

We loved this tour. We thought the highlight was the Coco Palms where Elvis Blue Hawaii was filmed there was a charming man named Larry Riveria that was in the movie and talked lovingly about the now destroyed hotel. He sang to us and showed us dances. It just too bad the hotel is in such disrepair. All the other stops were beautiful and interesting. It was such a great day. It was a Roberts van and guide.
