Thanks! We can't wait to get out of this cold winter!

Thanks CYNBAR for the report on Michaels club. We will be on Connie in March in our first Celebrity Suite and are looking forward to a nice quiet drink before dinner in Michael's This might be our only chance. It is a surprise for G. as he thinks we are in a Concierge!

We love the size and location of the S1's. Our first was on the Equinox and our butler was wonderful. He brought us ice tea every day and scrimp cocktail for me every day with non-sugar treats for DH. He made sure we had wine glasses and ice and escorted us to theatre seats on the formal nights. He set up the table with linen for breakfast each am. He got a nice extra tip.
Our next cruise was in Sept. on the Equinox and the butler was clueless. He only brought ice tea once and had to be asked repeatedly to bring wine glasses. He never offered to do anything extra. He got no extra tip.
The point is, if the butler does not do what you have reasonably asked, complain. I wish we had. Others must have because one day we had a different butler who did every thing right and twice officers came to our cabin and asked if the butler was doing his job. DH would not complain and said he was ok.
We are booked in a suite for March and I will complain myself if we do not get a good butler.

We did the partial transit in 2013 and took the train excursion to the other side of the canal. If this is still available, it was a way to see the other end without the hot ride in the small boat. We enjoyed it a lot.

We had a great butler for our S1 on Equinox Med cruise in 2012 who made up the table with the cloth etc. and brought ice tea and shrimp for the afternoon snacks. We were really spoiled and he got a great extra tip. Our cruise in an S1 in Sept. on Silly, the butler put the tray down and left . He would not bring ice tea not to speak of shrimp! He also did not bring wine glasses even if asked more than once. DH did not want to complain. Next time we will complain. By the way, the Silly butler came around the last am to get an extra tip. He was already getting the automatic tip, but seemed to think he would get more. He did not!

Perhaps with the concierge in Michael's club for CS and above suites, he/she would make the reservation. Our butler helped us in an S1 to get what we wanted.

Hi Gracie, Hope you get an answer. Just a quick look makes me wonder if being under the Horizon Court would be noisy. We have been on 5 Princess cruises as well as 2 Celebrity as you know and we like Princess minis. The best ones are on the Caribe deck of the Crown, Ruby and Emerald as the balconies are huge. We are trying the Royal next summer as we want the UK itinerary from Southhampton. We have a slanted mid-ship mini, but didn't book in time to get the largest balcony. We did the round-trip Panama Canal 2 years ago on the Island and scored the huge mini balcony on the deck with the "secret door" to the aft balcony which was almost like our own private full ship aft. We find the Princess minis to be close to the Celebrity S1's but without the butler etc. Princess has more entertainment venues than Celebrity and the passengers are more of a mix of ages than Celebrity and therefore more "lively". Hope to see you soon.

We are hoping to disembark in LaHarve also. I have booked the Paris on your own excursion to get to Paris. Is that the best choice? Thanks

Thanks very much for the information. We are hoping to see the new movie about the code breakers this week-end.

We asked our butler on Silly in an S1 for ice tea and something other than what he was bringing and he never complied. We are trying a Celebrity Suite on Connie hoping for better results...

We visited the Churchill War rooms a few years ago, so this trip we want to visit the Imperial War Museum, Bletchley Park and if possible, Eisenhower's headquarters. Can anyone help with directions to these with public transportation and/or a tour company that would pick us up at our hotel? Thanks
-
DH and I have often commented-did you ever think you would see Istanbul/Rome/Ephesus/ my grandmother's home in Ireland etc? Cruises are perfect for us since we love to see historical and cultural places, but also love to relax each night with a glass of wine on the balcony, a wonderful dinner and show without worrying about travel problems. We also like to be able to do separate activities on the ship (me the pool, shopping DH watching the port activity and reading on the balcony.)We have been on 10 cruises on 3 different cruise lines with 2 more booked. It's great!

We booked our train trip separately from Princess and I'm glad because Princess "canceled" the Grand 3 day from Vancouver in May AFTER we had made all of our arrangements. Thanks to CC, I found it was not canceled, but chartered. Then later, after letting many people book the charter, that was canceled for lack of sales. Those who say Princess cancels only for weather, mechanics or security do not know the truth. They gave us a whopping $15 for our trouble. There was a long thread about it earlier this year that I started. I wrote it to give people a "heads up" that it could happen, but some still had to hit me with the wet noodle for complaining.

Which cabin did you have? We originally booked a Celebrity Suite and then had such poor service from our butler in an S1 on Silhouette in Sept. (could not get wine glasses, ice tea etc. even after repeated requests) that I switched to a C1 for our Connie cruise in March. After 123 came out, we switched back to the Celebrity Suite. This time if we get a poor butler, I will complain immediately which we did not do on the Sil. We are not demanding and will not ask the butler to serve us dinner or at parties or make reservations for us, but I do expect the basics like ice and wine glasses.

The post is in the S1, but we have chosen S1's because we love the wrap around aft balcony. The post has not been a problem for us at all on 2 cruises. The S2's are on the side and do not have the extra round window.

This past Oct., it took us 3 hours to connect at JFK from Rome. They had only 2 TSA checks running. Passengers were going to the stack of boxes to bring them to the front to be used. The employees just stood there. We saw several people miss their connection. We had to change terminals which is better than before, but still time consuming. We have never made it in JFK in less than 2 and 1/2 hours. One time, it was so long and hot that people fainted.

Why not just get a table for four in the MDR? We had great food and service on our recent Silhouette cruise in the MDR. You could do either traditional or select.
-
We did not have a beverage package on our Sept. cruise, so we tried some of the wines on the Classic list to see if we liked them. We found some we really liked and since we only drink wine and an occasional after dinner drink, we think it will be fine for us.
-
We also have done many wonderful private tours organized on our roll calls and also ship's tours to areas that were unsafe or far away. I will say on our last cruise, we had the first problem on a private tour. The guide did not have the correct insurance papers and we could not leave Koper for over an hour. And in Naples, we should have met our group ON the ship and not on the dock as there we two areas of dock after leaving the ship and exiting the large arrival building. A word to the wise, meet before leaving the ship.

Glad to hear you have a good butler. Which deck are you on? We were on Silhouette deck 9 in an S1 in Sept. and our butler was clueless. I think there were complaints because an officer came to our cabin and asked DH if he was "attentive". The next day, a different butler brought our breakfast and did everything right, but after that the first one was back and no better. We still had a great cruise, but we did decide to try a C1 on our next cruise instead of a suite. It's only a 5 day on Connie, so I don't think we will miss the suite too much.

If we do not have foot stools, we will definitely ask for them right away!

Thanks for the detailed review. What hotel in Prague would you have rather stayed at? We are planning to do Prague on our own before a river cruise and have Hilton points and thought the Hilton was in a good location. Thanks
-
We have a concierge booked for the first time on Connie mainly for location on aft. We understand we will also get foot stools which is very important as DH spends a lot of time on balcony. Also, extra captain's club points. We have been in Sky suites 2 times on S class, but after a disappointing experience the second time and getting beverage package, we decided to try an Concierge. Also, with only a 5 night cruise, we would not be getting a complimentary specialty, but can buy one with the OBC we are getting.
-
Yes you can use OBC for internet. We paid about $58 for I think 100 minutes, but you will waste a lot of time just getting into it. There was a coupon in the desk for 10% off.

We had a similar problem with our AMEx gold Delta card. In the marketing for the AmEx card, it says a card holder can get into Delta's Sky Club for $29 per day instead of $50 if you are a Delta Sky Miles member. Last Sept. we were held up at JFK waiting for 70 passengers from Salt Lake City who needed to get on our flight to Venice for a cruise. (I don't know which cruiseline). We had to wait over 4 hours for them, so we thought we would go into the Delta Sky Club because it is much nicer than the waiting area and has food and drinks for "free".
When I asked the desk hostess in the Sky Club for the $29 deal, she very rudely said no, it would be $50. We didn't want to pay that much, so we left. When I called Delta, they could not find the deal in their literature,it is only in the AmEx literature. My point is, no matter what AmEx writes, the person at the point of entry (in your case Celebrity) may not honor it.
I did not renew my Delta AmEx card as a result.
