  1. thank you for your review! I enjoyed it very much. I was however disappointed when the nasty comments directed at Carnival ships came up. (Cozumel port)

I am by no means a Carnival cheerleader, and the reason I read this board is because I am wanting to branch out and try a different line, probably because I have out grown Carnival, and am getting older, no longer into the "fun ship" demographic of today. I have however enjoyed all my Carnival cruises and really do feel somewhat offended when the line is spoken of in this way. I don't feel that Carnival deserves the hate that is often directed at them by cruisers on other lines. I don't see Carnival cruisers dissing other lines. They are just content to stay within their realm.

I don't really see it on other boards, but this one especially seems to hate Carnival, followed by some posters on the Celebrity board.

Sorry, just had to say this, as I am often quiet and don't respond to these comments, but having enjoyed this review so much, it was almost like being gut punched mid way, by the barbs toward Carnival.

I agree with you and usually just ignore those folks and scroll on. We have had awesome cruises on Carnival and I don't understand why some feel the need to bash them. That being said we enjoy all the lines. They all have good and bad points! I find it particularly sad when people bashing Carnival have never even sailed with them. Personally, I think the food is better on Carnival than Royal. JMHO

I really have enjoyed your review and glad you had a great cruise. Nice that Owen had fun before starting back to school. :)

  2. I am on the same cruise right now. As pointed out, many passengers could have assisted if just asked. However, I’m very surprised that Guest Services failed to inform you about a small vending machine right outside the door to Medical Services on Deck 2. It offers aspirin. Sinus relief, upset stomach medication and I believe bandaids. Everything is .25 cents.

THIS is what every employee at guest services should be able to tell a passenger!

  3. I don't understand why her sign is any different than a book, sweater, hat, sunglasses etc. left on a table.

Those of you that said you would throw away her sign, what would you do if a book or bag was on the table?

I guess, in the past, when I've seen personal items on a table, I move on. No problem for me.

If hubby or I get up for seconds or dessert I leave something on the table. Is this wrong?

  4. We did a 30 day South American cruise earlier this year in which they took our passports at beginning of the cruise and returned at the end. I was happy to see some stamps in it from some of the countries we went to including the Falklands which had a penguin on it :)

When the ship collects your passport, you can go to guest services and check-out your passport when you arrive at a port stop. That's what we do.

  5. Coolcruise02, Were the officials American? I had the Machu Picchu stamp on the last page of my passport and had no trouble because no one ever saw it. I'm glad I didn't know I could get a stamp in Tierra del Fuego as my passport was new at that time

I haven't been on Princess in a few years but they used to have stamps for each Cruise. I mean actual lick'em stamps, not to be put in a passport, of course. They would hand out a book to enter them in. A nice idea but I don't know whether it's still done

Yes, once was in USA and the other time was London.

I love the countries that have original stamps and not the generic box! :)

  6. There is strict rules on who can stamp and write on a passport. Random stamps (e.g. from post offices and visitor center) could invalidate your passport and/or you can have some fines. Remember, passport is a official document of your country, it is not your diary.

    I totally disagree!

Twice I have had immigration officials make complementary comments about the stamp in my passport from Machu Picchu and also my "bottom of the world" Ushuaia stamp. NO fines or invalidated passport!

Every port I go to, I find the customs/immigration office (every port has one) and ask for a stamp in my passport. Most of the people are so friendly and happy to do it. In all my travels the only port I was turned away was Kiel, Germany. Or, the office was closed. (lunch hour, etc)

I try and ask a guard where the offices are and some are very hard to find. Most are in unmarked buildings. So, if you don't mind taking 30 minutes out of your day, hunt the office down. If one country turns you down keep trying. Good Luck!

ps....one time I had to wait behind a man with 15-20 passports in his hand. He was the captain of a container ship. Great experience for me.

  7. Does anyone have any recent experience with taking a ferry about 10 min away from the ship to go to the old town? The research I have done is all old info and someone reported it was shut down for a period of time, but no dates were included.

    Thanks for any help!

  8. My daughter and I returned from our cruise just today. While in PV we took the white van ( there were several white vans and taxis right outside the ship ) They charged everyone $4 per person to drop off at the Malecon. The stop was where Starbucks was which worked for us to grab some ice coffee, Wi-Fi and air conditioning before we started our walk down the boardwalk.

The return taxi did charge us $5 each to get back to the ship.

Thanks for the info! That price is reasonable.

  9. Go for it! Don't let others dictate your cruise.

Some cruises, with family or celebrating an event, we have decorated our door. It adds to the fun and festive atmosphere.

The times we haven't decorated our door I enjoy seeing others creativity.
