I'm only posting this picture so that you can see the finished product... Unfortunately, it turned out to be pretty "lackluster" at best... One of those kinds of steaks where you just chew and chew, then spit it out, once you can't chew anymore... The wine, at least, turned out to be great...

  2. At work tonight. Eerie skies over Prescott Ontario. Looks like it’s raining hard and the sun is out at the same time. This is from the US side of the St. Lawrence River. The sound of thunder is almost deafening.

Happy Sunday, Tribe. I have been keeping up, but just have the "communication blahs" where it feels like nothing I can say would be interesting, lol. Kinda like life right now. It's not like I have nothing going on, either. We have been put on the waiting list for our top two choices of apartment places, now the wait begins. I have been kept pretty busy with work and I have been trying my best to stay interested in going through stuff I have either collected since we moved into this apartment 14 years ago or that I brought WITH me to this place 14 years ago. Ugh.

The good news (and the only thing keeping me hanging on to any kind of "excitement") is that my usual 9 days on the St Lawrence river has expanded to 2 full weeks, thanks to my cousin who gave me her time slot. She lives right on shore across from the island and has settled into the main house--just didn't feel like lugging all her crap and food down to the other house for 9 days then back again. Even though I know I should probably not be away for 2 weeks when I am moving in a couple of months, I snapped it up when she offered it. I plan on giving her a serious martini night while I am there to thank her.

I just really need a change and some beauty and peace (as I know we all do). So screw the packing for 2 weeks...

Greenpea2 welcome home. I work on the US side of the bridge in the ‘burg.  I too am finally on vacation, even though I should be leaving NYC for Bermuda right now. Actually we should have left 20 minutes ago or so. Have a nice time, the St Lawrence River will be warm, it’s been in the 90’s for the past week.

Thank you! Maybe I will finish it then. Was saving the best (for me at least!) for last--our day at GSC. Highlight of the cruise for sure--for both of us.

Please finish, I’ve only been a Carnival cruiser and am doing the NCL Encore in July. Virus crap or not we are going.  We have decided to stay with NCL even though we have never cruised with them before. Because of reviews like Yours, SIDS and Birds as well as some others . My wife loves your review and writing style .😉

I assume since there are multiple types of OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) Spray: Conical Mist (like a cloud burst or also called Fogger), Spray (like it says), GEL, and Foam, the guards used either GEL or FOAM.  There is a smell with both but for the most part the stuff lands on the persons face and stays there. Unless they touch their face and something else or are touched by something it will transfer.

Disinfecting the area with soapy water would be done.   The smell in the area would be strong if the substance landed on carpets. In close quarters I myself prefer the gel.  I can use it and it does NOT affect me, even with wind. If my aim is off....my fault.

I would never use Conical Mist or Spray on a cruise ship, way too much wind and the possibility of it coming back in my face... nope,  sprayed once because we had to.  Never again.

Not disagreeing with you, just trying to correct the misconception that there is only one type of spray.

  6. FYI, scheduled my July 12 Encore trip in August 2019. The price after Black Friday was almost $900 higher than when I put down my deposit, and that’s after the 30% off deal.  This morning 2/26/20 the price is now $160 LESS than what I got. I paid $1909 for a mid ship balcony category BA. Maybe the Virus outbreak is effecting the summer cruises.

  8. I've looked at most of the Encore reviews, checked out the dailies and the entertainment schedules.  The thing is, how likely are they to change from the itinerary now, from Miami (7 day eastern) to the itinerary from New York (7 day Bermuda) this summer? Will the specialty restaurant menus change as well? Figured they would with the change of home port and destinations.

I am going in July and want to be as organized with scheduling shows and specialty restaurants as possible.

  9. Normally you, from a Visa waiver country, will be admitted for 90 days into the US under the I94W (visa waiver) program. However since you said that you have a US Visa that is a 6 month multiple entry admittance. Even though you will be on a "closed cruise", it will not matter. If for some reason you are departed in the system, you can and will be readmitted with no issue. You will not even know that that has happened.  What you did not realize is that your passport was scanned, it takes seconds and is so routine that people do not realize that it was done.  You should have received a stamp, sometimes stamps are not given but that is not the norm.

Do not worry about the entry or exit, it is done thousands of times each day all over the US and at pre-clearance spots throughout the world.  Depending on where you leave the UK, you may also be pre-cleared for your entry to the US.

  10. I have read the reviews about Blue Water Divers, Grand Turk Diving and White Sands Charters. Has anyone been to Grand Turk multiple times and used more than one company? I am going in March and am looking to take tons of pictures for my wife's Life Science class underwater. I have never found a review comparing one company to another. Just raving reviews about each company. Help Please !!!!

  11. Hi,

I will be taking a closed loop cruise next week and was wondering if the Global Entry card could be used as a valid ID with the birth certificate. I am not asking about using it for expedited lines, etc as I know that not all ports have access for that. I just want to know if it can be used instead of the driver's license. My cruise website mentions that Sentri and Nexus are allowed but does not mention the actual Global Entry ID.

    Thank you!

A Global Entry Card is a preapproved trusted traveler program as you know. A passport can be purchased by people with criminal histories. Not the global entry. I only travel with my nexus and cross into the US from Canada continually by air and land. Have used it on my last cruise also. Since you have to have a passport bring it with you and it will quiet those that have no idea what a global entry card is. My nexus card is now according to DHS a global entry card as well. If you cruise to Mexico it is approved for there: Here is the list of countries and people who can get the Global Entry Card. Expedited travel to these countries with the Global Entry Card.

U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents and citizens of a few other countries are eligible for Global Entry membership:

    •Citizens of United Kingdom

    •Citizens of Germany

    •Citizens of the Netherlands

    •Citizens of Panama

    •Citizens of South Korea

    •Mexican nationals
