Yes, of course cruise ships burn fossil fuels and pollute. But that's only part of the problem with plastic straws. They are banned because they kill marine life (turtles, whales, dolphins, birds, fish, etc). As you can imagine straws used AT SEA pose a real hazard since they can easily fall or get blown overboard.

So, so happy to hear this!!!
If it bothers you enough, buy a stainless steel straw off of Amazon and bring it with you.

I'll be on NCL and they don't take kids under 3 in the kids' club. My understanding is they don't supply ID bracelets. So if I want some way for people to know who my toddler belongs to if he were to get lost, then, yes, I think I do need to supply my own ID bracelet for him. They will make SURE you can be contacted, if needed...no worries! And they do armbands on most lines so that they know which muster station each child would use.....you don't need an ID bracelet!! -
Random question, but is milk at the buffet in cartons? Or do you fill glasses from a machine?
How is coffee in the buffet? From a syrup? Or brewed from grounds? Is there cream or half & half, or is it all non-dairy "creamer"?
Thanks much!!

Some cruise lines give arm bands to kids. Not sure which do and which don't. I'm thinking of getting an ID bracelet or emergency contact stickers for my toddler.

Does anyone know if they have kids movies during the day or early evening sometimes? That is more my speed. [emoji16]

Is there a low traffic ("secret") deck? A good place to sit and view the water?
We won't have a balcony unless our upgrade bid is accepted.

10:30pm OMG I can't stay up that late! LOL
No I'm not an old lady, it's just that my toddler gets up at 6:30. [emoji23]

Did they have painting classes?
Do they show movies? If so, where, the Atrium?

You guys realize fresh food can be refrigerated for several days to a week or more, especially with industrial refrigeration, right?
That picture with the drop ceiling doesn't even look like it's on a cruise ship.

If just for the pool, I'd get a vest that is flatter. But depending on what you do, you'll have to decide if a "swim vest" is good enough, or if you need a coast guard approved life vest.
Here's an example of a swim vest.

I haven't done this myself yet, but I have seen people to recommend not getting a flight before 1pm. LGA has major construction for the next several years. Apparently that can cause major traffic issues.

No cooking, cleaning, or washing dishes for a week!

Great feedback above, getting me excited for our cruise!
Our lo will be 2.5. He's high energy also. I'm expecting we'll take him to run on the promenade daily, and to the kids club to play off some steam. Not sure yet if he'll be potty trained and get to use the kid's pool...
I definitely plan to bring a carseat. I've heard horror stories of families getting kicked off of planes because of toddlers who would not remain seated. If your child is over 2, they are not allowed on your lap for takeoff!
We'll be bringing markers, new toys, and an iPad and hope that will entertain him for a few meals or while we enjoy a cocktail. We also plan to rotate who stays in with the baby at bedtime.

I turn 40 shortly before our upcoming cruise also! [emoji16]

So sorry to hear about your accident!

I'll bring some snacks to have on the plane and stuff for my toddler, but I don't plan to bring food specifically to eat on the ship. I usually travel with peanut m&ms and fruit leathers.

I would check Eddie Bauer. I have a down jacket from them that is very thin.

Yes, but how can you know another person's motives for leaving?
-
Maybe it's parents who just got paged to the nursery. Maybe one person is having a panic attack, and the spouse doesn't want to let them leave alone. Maybe they aren't being rude, but had something come up that is not apparent to you.
You never know. shrug

Very fun review, thanks.

We spent less than that on our honeymoon and it was amazing. We flew to Rome. Did 2 nights there, then did a 10 day Mediterranean cruise - got to see 4 countries. We had an OV cabin and it was wonderful. We were on Holland America.
I personally don't spend much time in the cabin and could never justify paying more for a fancy room.

I'm scared to do an upgrade bid for the same reasons. I'm currently a midship inside. I think a higher floor might be nice. But I'd bid the minimum on a balcony, so I'm unlikely to get it, plus may not be happy if I get a noisy location, or one that is not midship. I likely won't bid. Oh well.
The Last Straw on NCL? Awesome!

I wonder if they'll fully ban plastic straws? In which case bringing your own plastic straws may not be allowed.
It's pretty easy to find paper ones now. And Amazon is full of glass and steel options.
