    Thank you.

This information is good to know for us as we have an extended family cruise booked in June 2024 which includes a current boyfriend and current girlfriend of two young adults in our party.

My son's girlfriend broke up with him about a month before our cruise and she was the one that booked their room.  Fortunately she was very good about letting us find someone to take her place and just asked for part of the money that she had paid.  My son's cousin got a really good deal for a cruise from Boston to Bermuda.  The hardest part of swapping the reservation was contacting her agent, but we were able to get it changed and there was no charge.

Free Style Daily...thank you!! Couldn't dredge up that name no matter how I tried.   Fortunately, we'll be in Bermuda for the 3rd time, so port info isn't quite so critical, but we like to know where to meet up for certain activities.  Thank you!

We did the Bermuda cruise this past June and we're booked on the Pearl out of Boston this coming June.  I want to say that someone posted copies of their Free Style Dailies from an earlier cruise than the one that we were on.  So I was able to get an idea of the daily activities before we departed.  You could probably do a search for the thread if you're interested.

If you have a chance, can you please share what embarkation was like in Boston? We have an arrival time of 10:30-11:00, but I'm wondering if we should show up then or wait until a bit later if it's less crowded. We're in suites (not Haven) so I think we're eligible for priority boarding? But I'm guessing there will still be lines for security and check-in, and I'm hoping to minimize the time that my parents have to stand in line.

I hope you and your sister have a wonderful cruise, Denise!

I left out of Boston in June for Bermuda and it was fairly quick to check in and we had an 11:00 check in.  We did have to wait until they started boarding the ship which was around 12.  But it went pretty smoothly.

That would be whacky.  In a usual land based Japanese steak house, the chef cooks for and entertains the entire contiguous table.  What’s the point of having island seating that’s practically “theater in the round” if you’re going to completely ignore half of them for 15 minutes?

On the Pearl, I want to say that there were 4 stations that were 2 sets of 2 cooking areas.  So, the chefs would have their backs to each other and depending where you were seated, you could see the show at the other tables.  They do stagger when the stations cook so that everyone isn't being seated or leaving at the same time.

I don't think that the chefs on the ships have as much leeway as far as the show that they can put on as compared to an on-land restaurant due to the fact that they have to take into account potential rocking of the ship.

One person in our group had never been to this type of restaurant before and was blown away.

  5. I was on the Pearl out of Boston to Bermuda this past June and I am thinking of booking the cruise again in the May/June timeframe and while we enjoyed the shows that we saw aboard the ship, it would be nice to see something a little different.  Even if it was different impersonators in the Legends in Concert show.  Does anyone know how often the change the shows aboard the ships?  Or would I have the same entertainment available as last time?

    Thanks,

I'm on the Pearl from Boston in 8 days! Please tell me about the entertainment available. And what capacity it is sailing with?

I hope you are having a fantastic trip!

We were on the Pearl in June we saw the Pure Variety show and Legends in Concert.  The Legends show had 3 impersonators - Madonna, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson.  Both were decent shows.  However, the best show that we saw was the comedian Heath Harmison's show.  Not sure if was called X-rated or adult only.  He's got clips of his act on YouTube.

There was also an acrobatic show, but I can't remember the name.  It was entertaining as well.

My wife and I did a free walking tour of Hamilton.  It's a Monday-Friday tour with the Town Crier, Ed Christopher.  Ed seems to know everyone in Bermuda's capital and the tour takes about 1:45 minutes or so.  There's a lot of walking through the town, so wear comfortable shoes.

How's the food in the MDR?

We were on the Pearl in June and the food was fine in the MDR.  We preferred Indigo over Summer Palace as Summer Palace for dinner as it seemed to be warmer (temperature wise) at least the night we ate there.  We did have breakfast one morning at Summer Palace that was very good. The only restaurant that we were disappointed with was O'Sheehan's.  The service wasn't great and the food wasn't very good.  Lotus Garden was very good too.

  8. I had pre-ordered the 12 liter package months before my cruise on the Pearl on June 10th.  At the time of ordering, I was expecting a 12 liter plastic container with a nozzle of filtered water.  I was happy to find 20 one liter cartons of spring water.  There was a note saying that it was gift. (I found the water under the gift section on the website.)  We also had the 2 half liter containers as well.  The water tasted fine and we went through all of the water that we had as my 28 year old son and his cousin spent a good portion of the cruise either working out or playing basketball.  So they were always thirsty.

  9. The pier that the tender brings you to Bar Harbor is right next to the Fish House Grill.  Their website states that they are on the Town Pier.  Hope this helps.

As far as the streets in the area, yes there is an incline to them, but there not too bad and stores and restaurants are probably only a block or so from the waterfront and the crossing streets aren't steep.

We were on the Pearl a couple of weeks ago and my wife and I walked around without any problems.

First, and most important, I hope that your brother-in-law is doing well.

As for the rest,  is it possible that the AT&T phone agents misunderstood what was going on?  AT&T's FAQs about the International Day Pass contain this question: "Can I use International Day Pass on a cruise ship?"  The answer is "No. Only AT&T cruise packages include usage on eligible cruise ships while at sea."  It then goes on to add:  "Good to know. If your cruise takes you to an eligible International Day Pass country, International Day Pass applies to your usage in port and on shore."  It seems unlikely, but any chance the agents were talking about usage of the IDP when on the ship docked in Bermuda?  ("cover both the ship and on shore"?)

In any event, I'm sorry your wife was not given correct information, and I hope you get this worked out.   I think if you persist with AT&T up the chain, they should do something for you.  (I wonder if the calls were recorded on their end, which would help.)

Good luck, and all the best to your BIL.

My brother in law is doing better and has been moved out of the ICU, next stop is a long term rehab facility.  Fortunately we live just outside of Boston, so there are some great facilities nearby.

Unfortunately, my wife's information was from two separate phone calls with different reps and not their website.  (She received a text message that told her that her plan made her ineligible for the Cruise package and gave a number for her to call.)  She did explain to both reps that she needed to have phone service on the ship as well as in Bermuda for the length of the cruise.  Which was why we were trying to purchase the cruise package to begin with.

And of course we haven't heard back from AT&T.  Which is surprising as we have always had good customer service from them in the past.

I personally loved the the great Tap water on the Encore in 2021 and Joy in 2019.  Better than most bottled waters, which are just tap municipality waters.

The water in these cartons are spring water, not filtered tap water.  While the water on the ship tastes fine, I didn't want to take the chance when I booked the cruise.

  12. I was on the Pearl last week and I had preordered some of these waters as at the time I ordered them I was on a very restrictive liquid diet.  We had 20 one liter bottles in our stateroom and they all tasted great.  (we shared some with my son and his cousin in a separate stateroom.)

I think some of you are confusing packages...  AT&T has a cruise ship package now that includes NCL ships.  They are discussed in the link at the top but they do not allow any additional data above what is included in the package (200mb).

The $10/day package that someone has mentioned is the International Day Pass.  It does NOT work on the cruise ship and will charge you international roaming if you attempt to use your data or phone while on the cruise ship.  The International Day Pass is good in port only for a 24 hour period and uses your existing plan data.

It's great if you can time it right and want to save a little bit of money.  Anytime you have back to back port days, just start a new "pass" around noon and then you have until noon the following day in a different port to use the same pass.  Essentially, this lets you use one pass for every other day for the most part...  And is a lot cheaper than the cruise package from AT&T or the cruise ship internet if you only want it while in port to begin with.

We are currently battling with AT&T over their International Day Pass/Cruise packages.  Our phones are under my wife's name and she tried to sign up for AT&T's Cruise package only to have the site say that she's not eligible for the package.  So, she calls the number provided.  We speak with two separate agents and both tell her that she is eligible for the International Day Pass for $10 a day.  They both assure us that the plan will cover both the ship and on shore in Bermuda.  Two hours after we leave port in Boston, my wife makes a call.  Ten minutes after her call, she gets a text saying that the Intl Day Pass will not work on the ship and provide the link for their Cruise package.  This time she can sign up for the package and we do so.  A couple of days later, she gets another text saying that she has over $250 in roaming charges.  My wife's brother was in ICU and she needed to be able to be reached and needed to check in on a daily basis.  I told her that we would straighten things out when we get home.  No need for anymore stress.  She gets another text saying that we have over $500 in roaming fees on Friday when we get home and then the following day another one saying over  $750 in roaming charge.  We call and speak with someone at AT&T, who credits us $30 off of the $100 cruise package to charge us for the Day Pass price.  But she couldn't see any roaming charges to credit them.  She then got a voicemail from someone else telling her that we owed the roaming fees, but became elusive when my wife tried to call back.   We will not be paying any roaming fees and will fight this.

Now the next challenge is getting everybody set up for that stupid PCR test. That test company is certainly getting a sweet deal. I can get the test kit free, yet Inspired Diagnostics collects for what would also be a free test. Maybe by cruise time, this will all change.

Again, thank you all. Every response is valuable.

You probably can get part or all of the cost of the test reimbursed through your health insurance.  My health insurance is reimbursing me $12 per test.

I believe the first person on the reservation can’t be changed, FCC’s are in the name of the passengers who can’t go. If a work situation is a covered reason, insurance should reimburse them and then they can reimburse you.

I don't believe you are correct.  My son and his girlfriend booked a cabin on the same cruise as my wife and I, then she broke up with him.  She was the first person on the reservation and we were able to switch her out without a problem or charge.

I would try calling NCL and see if they can help.

  16. Hi,

We are booked for the Jewel in June for a cruise to Bermuda.  My son's girlfriend booked them a cabin as well.  I should say ex-girlfriend as she broke up with him on Saturday.  (Our son's 28 and she's 23.)  She's not planning on going on the cruise now, but our son still wants to go.  They are fully paid up except for the room service charge.  Is there a way to add another person to their cabin at this point?  My thought is that if he adds a friend as a 3rd person in the room and then the ex girlfriend can work on seeing if she can reschedule?  I am guessing that her booking is not transferrable.

Will our son have to pay her service charge if he travels alone?

    Thanks in advance,
