Which Itinerary? Bermuda- No. Carib or Med- Yes.

 

$1000 for 8 days is not that expensive for a solo occupying a cabin designed for two passengers. That's $62.50/pp per day.

Okay, it is on Carnival Splendor - Western Caribbean out of Miami. Runs about $936.00 January 17, 2016. Air/Hotel extra. Should I go for it? Thanks for any info.

How much are you guys willing to pay for a solo 8 day cruise? It just seems soo high. Would you pay over a $1,000 plus extra for air/hotel? Just curious. Would that stop you?

we had a 1A cabin with the port holes last month .. Loved it

 

We had Gold pearl 6pm,,, same table everynight... was awesome

I am soo glad to hear about the 6pm dining. I just switch from any time dining to same dining/table every night. First time trying this. I like the idea of the same table and same waiter. I hope you got to catch my favorite band by the casino "Music Boardwalk". Will be doing the New England on the Splendor at the end of September. Can't wait.

Also there are some live music bands still left.

It's the British Colonial Hilton. We did the day pass back in January and had a great day there! I would totally repeat it!

I didn't quite catch the name of the hotel. It looks really great and close to the ships. Did you get a day pass?

Going to be on the Victory in a bit over a week :D and was wondering what the nightly entertainment was like. First time on Carnival but I'm guessing they have similiar offerings as other cruise lines. The one thing we discovered on a previous cruise on RCI is we enjoyed the piano bar and some of the live bands. Are there similiar offerings on Victory and if anyone has been on her recently were they good?

I promise, if you give Music Unlimited a chance you won't regret it. They take request, they will try to play anything you request. They can play anything from Sweet Home Alabama ( which being from Tennessee we don't care for it would much rather hear Rocky Top but that's a whole different story) to Stairway to Heaven. If you want a real treat ask for Thriller, with the Vincent Price laugh. I think Vincent would have been impressed with it. Tell Ike, the manager/ drummer, Mike and Faye from Tennessee said a big Hi and Yee Hi....we'll see them on the Splendor in February. ( we sailed with them to Hawaii 2 years ago) Happy Cruising and God Bless!!

I agree with you... Music Unlimited is a great band. Thriller must be a new number that they do. I hope to see them as well next year..... Another favorite is Music Boardwalk......

This isn't a complaint, more of a curiosity. I was looking on Carnival's career site the other day and it seems there is no option for employment on board a ship if you are an American. Americans can be hired for entertainment, casino, or shopping expert, but those are all done through outside agencies. There was no option for Americans for jobs like bar staff, wait staff, steward, etc.. Now that I think about it, the only Americans I have ever seen working on a ship are a couple CDs and one ship captain. Is there something with our labor laws that makes it impossible for them to hire Americans? I know the pay is terrible, but I'm sure there are people who would just like to live on a cruise ship no matter what the pay is.

Cruise Director "Malcom Burns" is now on the Splendor and he is from the Bronx.

For August 12th, for a solo interior cabin it is $1658 but with taxes it comes to $1836... I think that it is too high. I am right, aren't I? Only time I could go and almost want to book it. Thanks for info. Mary49

After tons of cruises and same ports of call... these guys, are arguably, the best for dancing and listening pleasure!

That's a very high price for an inside, so I guess you paid double as in 200%? If you had other dates that you would be available to go, it would have been probably half of what you paid. Beginning of December prices drop dramatically.

Hi Jam - always love your review. I'm going back on the Splendor in September to say goodbye to Music Boardwalk before they break for vacation. I cruise solo and I keep watching for the prices to drop especially in August. But I don't think so. Got a good deal for September though. Great picture. You and GAPearl have the best reviews everytime. It really feels like we are all cruising together. Thanks so much Mary49

I see you are in NY, so I wanted to let you know there are two sailing dates on August 22 and 29th from NY, NCL Gem, both sailings have no single supplement. I am actually planning to go but I will be buying my ticket last minute, the price will drop significantly. As of now its not cheap, but considering I don't have to fly its a huge plus for me.

I see too that you are from Brooklyn. I live out by the Rockaways. You seem to be pretty good with watching for the price dropping. I was thinking of the Gem to Bermuda as well. It's rough for us solos but I love going alone. I know the cover band pretty well and that's why I was going back. I'm afraid that this will be their last year with Carnival. I think Carnival is going to pull all the Philippine lounge bands so I will be going back in September just in case to say goodbye. Do you cruise a lot??
