Hi, just want to share what I did and hoping this works out.

Okay, so I decided to make the mistake of booking the flight the day of the cruise. I never did this before so I figured I would be alright. Now my flight leaves on this Saturday the day of the cruise and I am already a nervous about it. Leaving from JFK and they are forecasting lots of rain. Yikes. My flight is at 8:30 on Delta going to New Orleans and I'm hoping I beat out the rain. I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN AS IT IS VERY NERVE WRACKING. Let this be a lesson to me. I don't know what I was thinking.......

I have Traditionally Dining on the Triumph. Could you please tell me in what MDR it will be thanks.

I am going on the Carnival Triumph May 13th and have Traditional dining at 6:00 pm. Can you recommend a table for 2? Thanks alot for this info.

Hi! I have my second cruise planned for July. I took my first cruise last July - Carnival Triumph to Cozumel. I have been thinking about changing the trip to a Bahamas cruise from Jacksonville or Charleston. Will I be bored on the same exact ship, same exact itinerary? Are the activities they have planned going to be the exact same? Any advice will be appreciated.

If you are into a good rock and roll band you will see "Music Boardwalk". They are there until August. I will be sailing on the Triumph in May and cant wait. Enjoy your cruise.

Has anybody ever try taking a Am Trak Train instead of flying? Just wondering about trying it to New Orleans. Might be fun. Thanks for info.

Is it possible to take the elevator down at the Julia entrance of the mall and then walk over to the Carnival terminal? or is it not doable? This way you can avoid the stairs. Thanks again.

Hi Boltfan21, I can see the problem. I'm surprised that they don't have an escalator or elevator to go down with your luggage; wha a shame. But I think I would be able to do it with one luggage and carryon. Thanks so much for the pictures. It gives you an idea of what to expect; you think it is an easy walk until you come to an obstacle (lol). Enjoy your cruise.

I certainly will let you know how we do with the walk to the port....I can't hardly wait for next Friday to get here and we just got off the Valor on Jan

19th, and I already need another cruise...LOL

We walked it. Luckily it wasn't raining but it's an easy walk. We were diverted on street to wander about three blocks with traffic outside versus inside mall. Had to walk around vehicles but it was doable outside too. Had noon check in, left hotel around 11. Were on boat about 12:30. Pretty easy!

Thanks Amy, now I'm wondering being I'm going solo if it would be better to stay at the Hilton Riverside after all. I so wanted to stay at the embassy for their cocktail hour and breakfast but I dont know now. Hope you had a great cruise.

This thread has been a big help...I copy & pasted comments on directions to the port from the Embassy and the picture of the sign in the mall....We leave next Friday for New Orleans and going to walk to the port for sure!!!!

For the most part yeah. It depends on where and when you're walking. During the daytime I'd say you're good. If you're walking around downtown-french quarter at night I try to stay on well populated streets as much as possible. Poydras, St. Charles, Canal, Royal, Bourbon, Decatur

Thanks again. It would be diffiently in the day. Flying in the day before and walking to the port sometime the next morning.

Saint Greg - Just a quick question, I'm going solo and I was wondering if it is pretty safe to walk it by yourself. Thanks again.

I think I'm just about ready to book the Embassy. It doesn't look at all that bad of a walk and I just have one luggage to wheel. Not bad at all.

I've been reading lots of old threads and see no mention at all of this hotel?

Supposedly it is a newer section attached to the older Embassy Suites. The location looks quite good and the reviews of this newer Loft section look better than the ones about the original Embassy Suites. Since they offer a cooked bkfst and upgraded cocktails and hors douerves(SP?) we thought it would be a good place to spend a weekend before our Triumph cruise in December.

My original price at the old Embassy Suites was $134 and I used pts. to upgrade to the Lofts.

IF you guys think this is a terrible idea I will look around more as it is all cancelable???

 

The other part of my question is about getting to the port. IF it is nice out I thought we could walk but I see most of the posts about walking are for using the Julia St. Terminal. It looks like Carnival is now using Erato St. which is past Julia St. and so I don't know if you can walk through one to get to the other???

I understand about going to the elevator outside the mall to get down to the entrance level of the port but that is Julia St.

Can we get onto a streetcar at Julia St and take it one stop to the John Churchill Chase stop at the port??

I just saw a price on Tripadviosr for $180. I guess that would be a good price for Embassy Convention Center???

We didn't choose the Hilton because of too many negative reports on trip advisor.

Thanks Cruisegirl6; just read some of the tripadvisor reports and you are right. A lot of negative reports..... Maybe I'll try the Embassy.
