Well, if you eat as soon as breakfast opens you must know that many more people are up and around earlier on port days than sea days. So it would make sense that stewards might vary their start time by when people are up and out vs. sleeping in.

Landing gear can support the weight of a fully fuelled plane on the ground but can't take the weight of a plane landing on it. I'm not sure if that applies to all airliners or not.

I believe so though I forget the cost. For my parents, who are getting older, I prefer they are able to just call or text my cell number. I'm sure that they prefer it that way too. And if they just want to chat with me for a bit I'm good with it. God knows that is the least I can do for them.

You do know that, depending in the amount of fuel aboard, a plane can be too heavy to land and either has to burn fuel off or dump it.

I agree. I feel much more comfortable knowing that family back home can reach me if they need to and they feel much more comfortable when I go away knowing that they can contact me if need be.

I think I'd prefer morning service. I am out of the cabin early. Late afternoon I like to go back and get cleaned up for the evening then sit on the balcony for a bit with a drink. At least now I won't have to worry about getting out so that the steward can get in.

I think I understand what you are going through with your new discoveries because of my history. Though our stories are nothing alike, I know what it was like when at 12 yrs old my grandmother had the foresight to bring me to Italy and give me an entire part of my family that, though I knew existed, I had no real connection with. They welcomed me with open arms and ever since they have been as much a part of me and my life as the family in the US is.
