    Carnival Corporation Confirms Company-Wide Layoffs

    May 14, 2020

Carnival Corporation announced today a number of additional actions it is taking to further strengthen its liquidity position in the event of an extended pause in guest operations due to COVID-19, according to a press release.

To further strengthen liquidity, the company said that its brands are announcing a combination of layoffs, furloughs, reduced work weeks and salary reductions across the company, including senior management. These moves will contribute hundreds of millions of dollars in cash conservation on an annualized basis.

"Taking these extremely difficult employee actions involving our highly dedicated workforce is a very tough thing to do. Unfortunately, it's necessary, given the current low level of guest operations and to further endure this pause," said Carnival Corporation & plc President & CEO Arnold Donald. "We care deeply about all our employees and understanding the impact this is having on so many strengthens our resolve to do everything we can to return to operations when the time is right. We look forward to the day when many of those impacted are returning to work with us and we look forward to the day, when appropriate, that once again our ships and crew are delighting millions of people at sea and we can be there for the many nations and millions of people who depend on the cruise industry for their livelihood."

Added Donald: "We also want to thank our guests for their many thoughtful notes and overall outpouring of support. It is clear there is tremendous anticipation for a return to cruising. It's also encouraging to note that the majority of guests affected by our schedule changes want to sail with us at a later date, with fewer than 38 percent requesting refunds to date. Our booking trends for the first half of 2021, which remain within historical ranges, demonstrate the resilience of our brands and the strength of our loyal recurring customer base, of which 66% are repeat cruisers. In addition, we plan to stagger fleet reentry to optimize demand and operating performance over time."

    Here it is again:

    1. Departure Date order

    2. UP TO 60 days from time they received your choice of option 1 or 2

So, my cruise was March 14th. My choice was submitted March 12th. They failed on both counts!

    60 day processing.png

See, thoroughly confusing. The first line says they are processing in "departure date order". The very next line says up to 60 days from when they recieve your refund choice. How do they do both? I already passed 60 days from my refund request date but my cruise was not supposed to start until May 2. Reading postings on here there is a lot of people that have not been processed that had earlier cruise start than mine.

For those who already had cruises booked in the distance future but not paid, then Option 1 makes sense as you can 'pay' for your cruise using Princess FCC.

For me, I have no other cruises booked and as hubby is in the at risk population, not sure what the future holds for us so I took Option 2 (a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush plus 25% FCC)

    Just my opinion.

We are planning to book May 1st 2021 out of here in Seattle but honestly either option works. I just don't know how to tell anyone which option we want,

Are you sure that is all you should be getting back?  Looks like you should be getting 100% refund with 25% bonus future cruise credit based on your cruise date.

Your Departure Date in 2020 Option 1: Higher Value Option 2: Lower Value March 12 - March 25 "100% refund as future cruise credit + 125% bonus future cruise credit" "100% refund + 100% future cruise credit " March 26 - April 8 "100% refund as future cruise credit + 75% bonus future cruise credit" "100% refund + 50% future cruise credit " April 9 - May 10 "100% refund as future cruise credit + 50% bonus future cruise credit" "100% refund + 25% future cruise credit"

Also, I had a problem with a credit card that was replaced and when the refund went back to my old card, it looked as though it was lost out in space somewhere for months.  I was finally able to correct the problem with the credit card company.  Both were Amex cards but through different banks but, they were able to track it down and apply it to the new card.  It does help if you can pull up your account information on the original charge online so you can include that information to whomever is trying to help you fix this.

I cancelled back on the 9th before they implemented this. 😪

  5. Hi

I had a May 2 cruise booked on Royal Princess. I made the booking through a big box T/A. You can't get through to them over the phone but in their recording they gave a link to a form that I filled out to cancel. At the time I cancelled I should be getting 50% refund and 50% FFC.

My concern is I think the booking was paid on my debit card and last month I lost that card and was issued a new one. So my concern is they will try to send the refund to the old card and it will not go through.

Any advice as to what I should do? Should I just wait and see?

    thanks

  6. Hi

We are taking our first Princess cruise in May on Royal Princess. We were booked in cabin E433 until recently when I see they have moved us to L110. We have done a couple dozen cruises on Royal Caribbean and have never been in a forward cabin. My concern with a forward cabin is the pitch (up & down motion) especially in a cabin this high up.

Anyone been in a cabin near to this one who can comment?  Thanks a lot for the feedback.
