  1. I actually don't mind Nassau. As others have said, you have to take a taxi or excursion to enjoy the best offerings there. BUT, I do love both Key West and Cozumel, so my vote is for them. I enjoy Key West for all the old gingerbread and conch houses (the conch train is the best way to see them all) and Cozumel because there are so many options there, plus it is guaranteed to not be cool there in January, something none of the other ports asked about can promise.

  2. On a related note, we were on the Conquest last week and there was a jewelry store "raffle" posted in the fun times. My wife wanted to attend, so I went with her. It never happened. We asked about it and were told it would be the following night. It was not. As far as I know it never happened, just something to get you in the jewelry store I assume. No, we didn't buy anything there, never have and never will.

  3. Hoping they will be better but we have been finding that desserts look a lot better than they taste.

Wish they could figure out the secret of making a nice juicy fruit pie. Have suggested they hire Mrs Smith but so far they have not.

I'm hearing from my sources that Mrs. Smith turned down their offer of reduced deposits on all future cruises and 10% off spa packages in exchange for her services. It is my understanding they are now reaching out to Mrs. Edwards with an offer of two free bottles of water with any suite booking and 15% off a single steakhouse meal per cruise.
  4. It's been three or four years ago, but at that time is was $20 per person for a taxi "tour" to Mountain Top. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only way to get there via taxi is the "tour." The tour consists of two or three stops along the way for photo ops. The view makes it worth the twenty bucks though.

  5. I wouldn't do a 3/4 B2b multiple times, but there are reasons for doing one occasionally, at least for us. We did this within the last year and the reason was we couldn't find the same ports of call on a seven night cruise at the same price as the 3/4 B2B we did. We enjoyed it very much and the turnaround day, other than having to do a second muster drill, was easy, especially since we had the same cabin booked for both cruises. Long story short, a B2B is a slightly different cruising experience and one, at least for us, worth doing once or twice. That said, if one can find the itinerary and price desired on a single seven night cruise, that is probably the way to go, since it is simpler to do.

  6. I am not sure why getting food in shifts is a big deal. My husband and I are not physically impaired and we still get our food in shifts, both on cruises and at buffets on land. Just pick your table and then you'll know where to meet.

We do the same thing at land based buffets, so that my wife can leave her purse at the table and I can watch it. Not a big deal at all.
  7. My wife and I always get our food first, then look for an available table. Works for us. In fourteen years of cruising we've never once not been able to find an empty table with a little patience. The thought of trying to reserve a table has not, nor would it ever, occur to me. Lido tables are first come, first serve.

In the OP's situation, where the husband has back issues, I think the obvious solution is to get food separately.

  8. Tomorrow many things could happen:

    • Earth could be hit by a Gamma Ray Burst and all life killed.
    • The Yellowstone Supervolcano could decide that it's ready to pop.
    • Cthulu and the old Gods could wake from their slumber and reclaim their dominion.
    • George R. R. Martin could actually publish another book.
    • The Cleveland Browns could turn a corner and have a Super Bowl Championship year.

That's deep, man. Especially the part about Lovecraft's famous creation. But you're just getting silly with the part about the Browns. :D

  9. Anyone see the big story on the world news last night about the newest alcohol use study? In a nutshell, even light drinking - just one drink a day - is very bad for your health... even wine. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

editorial: I wonder how many millions was spent in finding out that drinking even a little bit of poison is bad for you???

  10. This is a theoretical question for those who might know and no way is aimed at the Op or anyone else. What would happen if someone were cruising with just a few hundred bucks in cash and no credit cards and no travel insurance and they fell seriously ill in a foreign port or were seriously injured? Would they be able to get adequate care, or would they be turned away by the local hospital or ER? I am asking purely out of curiosity. Thanks.

  11. Don’t know if they still exist, but years ago there was a FB group called something like cruise critic sucks. They took delight in coming here and posting crazy stories, photoshopped images and out right lies....then run to JH page to make CC look bad.

If that is the case - and I'm not doubting you - it must really suck having a life so devoid of meaning that you think doing that sort of thing is fun. Bless their hearts.
  12. I'm not saying this does or does not happen. I've never experienced it... and hope I never do. But the bothersome thing about it, if it does happen, is that it happens in your cabin. Sales pitches are expected in public areas, but I see my cabin as I see my home, a refuge. No, it is not my home, but it should be a private place. A door to door salesman you can simply turn away and not invite into your home. This can't be done with a steward, so if it does happen, I have a problem with it. Save the sales pitches for public areas. JMHO.
