  1. Swelled feet has nothing to do with contaminated water. The reason why there’s a disproportionate reports of swollen feet from cruisers is because of the brain’s constant rebalancing mechanism. The ship rocks which causes a balancing disturbance and the brain sends more blood vessels to the feet in an attempt to rebalance.
The brain can send blood vessels to the feet? Who knew? :D
  2. Is insurance worth it? If something goes wrong, it is invaluable. If nothing goes wrong, it is still worth it for the peace of mind. We have had to use it three times in fourteen years of cruising and were oh so thankful we had it, as we got all our money back each time.

If you are undecided, ask yourself this, can I easily afford to lose the total cost of my cruise. If you can, then it might not be worth it to you. But most of us would find the loss of a few thousand dollars rather painful.

As for the health insurance side of travel insurance, it could potentially save you hundreds of thousands if, God forbid, you or a traveling companion were seriously injured on a cruise or if you became seriously ill. We've never had to use that part, fortunately, but the small additional cost for insurance is more than worth it to me to know if the unthinkable were to happen, it wouldn't ruin me financially.

Personally, I would not even contemplate cruising without travel/health insurance.

  3. I don't buy water on the ship either. But I prefer the bottled water that is included in my Cheers package. It was a total bummer on NCL as we didn't know they didn't include bottled water in the package. In which case, we just drank from the water containers at the bars. But bottled water is just simply more convenient and if it's included at no additional cost, then why not?
Sure, as long as it is free... as water, imho, should be. But that's just me. If folks want to buy water it's nothing to me. I just don't do it. I just wish I was the guy that decided to put water in bottles and see if people would pay for it. :D
  4. We always drink the ship water instead of buying water (the whole concept of buying water seems weird to those of us who lived before bottled water became a thing. To me buying water is the biggest con ever). I've never noticed any sort of off taste whatsoever on any of the ships. It tastes just like... uh, water. It may lack some of the impurities of spring water and the like, which I suppose might alter the taste a bit. That seems like a good thing to me.

  5. Unless you want just beach days, Cozumel/Key West are the more interesting ports. Key West is gorgeous with all the gingerbread and conch houses. Cozumel offers an almost endless variety of interesting excursions, something for everyone. We were at Cozumel last October and did a tour that took in the coast on the opposite side of the island, which is ruggedly beautiful, a tequila distillery, and the Mayan chocolate factory. We enjoyed it very much. If you do just want beach days, then Princess Cays might be your best choice, though there are nice beaches at Cozumel as well.

  6. Wow. I've never seen SEC network on a Carnival Corp branded ship, before or after they stopped offering network TV channels. And I've been on a lot of Carnival Corp branded ships.
I'm not 100% positive, but I watched a Bama/Vanderbilt game on the Victory last Fall in my cabin. I wish I could remember for sure if it was on ESPN or the SEC Network, but I cannot. That said, this was a minor game. I'm doubting that ESPN would have carried it, so it's very possible it was the SEC Network. Could be wrong about that though, I guess. Obviously, I won't be watching any college games in my cabin on my September cruise. :(
  7. Just booked a b2b so I could join some friends on a 4day but wanted to extend it a bit. What can we expect?

    Expect twice as much fun!

If your question is referring to process, it varies, depending upon the port authorities, but most likely you will be escorted off the ship on embarkation day, down to customs, then escorted back. You will also be issued a new ship card. Assuming you are in the same cabin for both cruises, that's about it. Some have reported getting photos made, but I have not experienced this. Make sure you stop by guest services during cruise #1 to check and see if your cruises have been linked. Most likely yes, but it never hurts to make sure. A few have reported their cruises were not linked.

    Have fun!

Oh, yes you will have to go to the muster drill on both cruises.

  8. The rep should not have assured the OP of not getting a cove balcony. Reps do not have the authority to make such statements. That said, a balcony guarantee is just that, a guarantee of a balcony, good, bad, or somewhere in the middle, and nothing more. Still, coves are great. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the OP enjoys it a lot more than they anticipate enjoying it.

  9. Towel Critter - on all of our "16 cruises" I believe our balcony lights only worked once! Last February on the Freedom! I would not be insulted at all if my neighbor asked me to turn them out. I would be embarrassed that I had overlooked it.

Now that I think about it, our balcony light often doesn't work either. At least one of our neighbor's lights always seems to be in good repair though. lol. Happy cruising!
  10. I had that very issue on several sailings. I left a very polite post it note on their door asking them to be aware that there lights were on all night. Some people will say that will just tick them off and could cause a neighborly riff but each time I did the post it note, they turned of their lights. One couple even thanked me because they said when they left for the evening, they really didnt pay much attention to it. Now keep in mind, this was only when the lights were left on at night and they were not on their balconies. Never hurts to ask. The majority of people are pretty cool about things. I feel schmucks are in the minority.
Thanks for your suggestion. I'll keep it in mind.:)
  11. Thanks for your opinion but it seems you may be the one who is overreacting. Maybe you should go read the post on John's site. Simple logic dictates why this is a terrible idea (imagine all of the people trying to walk around the ship in total darkness and if you can't picture how dangerous and irresponsible that is, I can't help).

In my opinion, someone who is stating an innocent (but absurd) wish wouldn't start their post with "I've been on 16 cruises". The number of cruises someone has taken doesn't make any difference in logic and safety nor does it give more weight to their "wish".

I give up. Carry on telling folks how stupid they are if it makes you happy. I've already expressed the point I wanted to make, so there is no use continuing this conversation. Happy cruising!
  12. Nope. Stupid rants like this one needs the slap of reality (since they obviously can't think the consequences of such actions through on their own). Any other questions?
For the life of me, I can't imagine how you interpreted the OP's post as a "rant." I didn't read it that way at all. I read it as a wish for something, while realizing that wish probably isn't possible because of maritime law. You way over-reacted to an innocent post, whether you see it or not. Nope, no more questions.
  13. So you want someone to fall down a set of stairs and break their neck just so you can stargaze? How about this.....go buy some land in Montana and look at all the stars you want without putting someone else's life at risk to fulfill your silly fantasies.

Don't you think your response is a little on the harsh side? Just a little? And unwarranted, I might add.

  14. Don't your curtains darken your cabin. I have never been in a balcony cabin but have been in a outside cabin and the curtains blocked out all light.
Can't watch the sky in my cabin. That IS, after all, what this thread is about.
  15. I usually gain around 5 pounds on a 7 night cruise. Fortunately, when I get home and resume eating normally, the 5 pounds are gone within a couple of weeks. In fact, half of it is usually gone within a day or two. Therefore, I don't worry about it. I'm fortunate in that regard, I guess. I realize some people don't lose weight that easily and I feel for them.
