  1. Bohemian Rhapsody is part of Epic Rock. Not a fan of playlist but Epic Rock is an excellent show
I'm not a fan of playlist either, thus my appreciation for "Amor Cubano." I too am a fan of "Epic Rock," largely because of the live guitar at the beginning of the show. The guitarist filling that role on the Glory was exceptional. We also enjoyed him as a part of the band playing in the main lobby, "The Rockin' Dead." They had two lead singers, the other being female. She was exceptional. Music in general on the Glory was as good as I've heard on a Carnival ship.
  2. I've sailed on both the Glory and Conquest, thought it's been a few years since I was on the Conquest. They are very similar, so you might want to book based on itinerary and/or price. I've no idea about the current staff on the Conquest, but just got off the Glory a week ago and her staff was excellent, very friendly, very helpful. We were lucky enough to get a terrific cabin steward as well.

  3. True. One was America Rocks and the other name escapes me but had a lot of out in the audience involved.

If I've seen "America Rocks" I've forgotten. The title doesn't ring a bell though. "Epic Rock" makes use of a lot of off stage, among the audience, stuff. Perhaps that is what you saw. Did they do "Bohemian Rhapsody?" If so, then "Epic Rock" is likely the show.
  4. We did see it, to be honest it did not occur every to me that it might be offensive. To be honest, of the three main shows I liked the other two more.

We all have varying musical tastes, which I suppose accounts for our different show preferences. I'm curious what the other two shows you liked more were, if they might be shows I also saw on the Glory. I enjoyed all the shows I saw, which were three in total, I believe. One of the three was "Epic Rock." The other, the exact name of which I can't recall, was a Motown tribute. I had seen both previously and enjoyed them each time.
  5. Just a slight correction...it's Amor Cubano. I was on 3 legs of the Vista, and saw it numerous times. I thought it was excellent, and highly entertaining. There are songs included that are not Cuban songs, so maybe some people thought that was offensive. I go to be entertained, not critique every little thing, and I was definitely entertained. In fact, up and dancing entertained...LOL
Thank you for the correction on the title. It's been a week now since the cruise and I got it reversed. :)
  6. The Vista shows were excellent. Among the best we have seen.

Did you see "Cubano Amor," and if so, did you see or hear anything you thought might be offensive to Cubans? I'm referencing Evanbob's report that someone in a review DID think it was insulting to Cubans. I didn't see anything, or hear anything, but then I'm not Cuban. Perhaps there was and I am not in tune with Cuban culture enough to discern it. Just curious.

I was mostly just glad to see a show with live music again.

  7. Thanks for the heads up on the Music. I read another review which stated the show was an insult to Cubans. So I guess I'll have to experience it myself, will be on the Vista Nov 16.

I also read about a bank of elevators only going to some decks and not being clearly marked??? Some reviews complained on long waits for elevators as a result of them stopping on every deck. Your impression? Were these the forward elevator banks most use when embarking? Thanks.

We never had any issues with the elevators. We did not use them during "rush hour" times, but perhaps that is what the review was referring to. Beats me. Did the reviewer say how they thought the show was insulting to Cubans? Because it was non-Cubans performing the show perhaps? Everybody is offended by something these days I guess. I wonder if Paul McCartney was offended by the Beatles show?

Just figured out you were referring to the Vista in regard to elevator issues. We were on the Glory.

  8. I, among many, have been critical of the shows on Carnival ships since the change to "Playlist." In an effort at fairness, I must now give Carnival some credit in that area. My wife and I sailed on the Glory last week and attended a new show called "Cubano Amor," a tribute to Latin music, which, per the cruise director, is currently playing on the Glory and the Vista only. This new show featured a LIVE five piece Latin band, and was very enjoyable. Though the background vocals remained canned (which is probably a good thing for those of us with decent musical ears), the music was very much live and of high quality. The show received very enthusiastic applause and cheers, more enthusiastic than I have seen/heard in my last few cruises. I do hope this is the direction future shows on Carnival will take. Again, kudos to Carnival for genuinely entertaining me with "Cubano Amor." Bravo!

If you have an upcoming cruise on either ship, the Glory or Vista, I recommend you attend this show. You won't be disappointed.

  9. Got off the Conquest October 23rd. We had twice a day cleaning without being asked. We didn't fill out any forms and we were not asked if we wanted once or twice a day. Also, we had our ice bucket filled twice a day. The stewards were great.

Next cruise is on the Glory for the Bloggers Cruise. We will see what happens.

Just got off the Glory on Sunday. Same service you got on the Conquest: no card, morning and evening service, ice bucket filled each time. Unless something changes between now and your upcoming cruise, expect good service on the Glory.

  10. We just got off the Glory yesterday. I promised Jimbo I would report on this topic after the cruise, so...

We got twice a day service, no card, no questions asked. It just happened, as on every other Carnival cruise I've been on. I was so relieved to not have to adjust gratuities. We also had an ice bucket in the room and it was filled twice a day. Thanks Carnival.

  11. Irony: no non-flame resistant decorations, but gallons and gallons and gallons of alcohol on the ship. Not to mention, towels, clothing, paper napkins, etc... I rarely see more than a handful of decorated doors when I cruise. I think this rule is silly. I certainly understand caution where fire at sea is concerned, and most of the Carnival rules regarding fire safety are prudent, but this one? I dunno. Maybe I'm overlooking something...

  12. We are going on Breeze in a little over a week, and I fully expect we will get excellent service, as always. We always keep our room neat and make things easy for our room stewards, and have been generous with tips.

But... (I fully expect to get flamed for this but go ahead if you are happy with a Motel 6 cruise experience in the future.) *IF* we are presented with the once a day choice and the room steward balks at checking it twice a day and taking care of any needs and whines about how many more rooms he has to take care of... I intend to tell him that his gratuities will be reduced then proportionally. Then I will go to guest services and carry that out, and explain why and request to speak to the hotel manager about my displeasure with the new policy. Yes, there are other cruise lines we can go on, and yes, maybe we will.

I cannot believe how passive some of you are as they systematically degrade the quality of the vacation you are paying for. If Motel 6 of the seas is really what you desire... you may soon have your wish. Sheesh!

That said, I am fully expecting great service on Breeze and to have a great time. We haven't been on Carnival in 4 years, it will be interesting to see how much has changed.

I agree with you that adjusting gratuities is the only way we have to voice our displeasure with this. I too will do similarly if only given once a day service on my cruise in just over two weeks. I will give my room steward enough money to offset my tip reduction at guest services though. That way I can voice my opinion without hurting someone who had no say so in the matter.
  13. All I can say is wow and this is what I have been thinking they are heading towards. Sad
Thanks for the info. I see zero correlation between being on a cruise ship for a week or so and staying overnight at a Holiday Inn. Carnival/Boston Consulting dropped the ball on this one. And how many folks sleep until noon on a cruise? Not many, I'm thinking, especially on port days. I agree. Raising gratuities and cutting service (significantly) at the same time is absurd.
  14. We've gotten balcony guarantees four times and our room has been assigned in each case no later than about 20 - 30 days from sailing. Not saying this is always the case. It really depends on how sales go. BTW, we've gotten acceptable to very good locations 3 of the 4 times. Best of luck.
