  1. We consulted my MIL's doctor prior to booking this suite and he gave his ok as long as the water is kept at a "WARM" not "HOT" temperature.

I can't believe having your own private jacuzzi in your suite is worth only $300, when as other reviewers have said, that is the main feature of this suite. Without it, it is just like any other suite.

Oh well, after the initial disappointment, we are now in the "nothing we can do but make the best of it" stage.

We will use the OBC for Dinner at Le Bistro and maybe a spa treatment or 2.

  2. Actually you did say that.

"I told them I am not happy and that this cruise was a surprisefor my Mother-in-law and now it is ruined!" Your mom will not be surprised by the cruise because the cabin jacuzzi is not working? Don't you think that having a surprised $300 to spend on board will be something she will happy about? Yes I do see how you can be disappointed, I think anyone would be, but that is far from your cruise being ruined.

Truth is I would never get into one of those in cabin jacuzzis. No telling what previous guests have done there and there is but so much cleaning one can do.

I sincerely hope you (they) have a great cruise, but a jacuzzi not working is nothing to choose to ruin your cruise over.

Wouldn't you be disappointed if you paid over $5k for a 3-night cruise and not get all the benefits of the suite you booked?

My MIL knows we are cruising but she has no idea we are in a suite, let alone the owner's suite with a jacuzzi. My MIL has limited mobility at 88 years old and will probably stay in the suite most of the time. We wanted her to be as comfortable as possible (God forbid this might be her last cruise), and having a jacuzzi where she can relax was a big factor in us choosing this particular suite.

Will it ruin the cruise for us? NO, but it is still disappointing.

  3. I can see how you'd be very disappointed. I would ask for free spa passes for everyone in my room and the credit.

Unfortunately, the SKY has no thermal spa, so no Spa passes.

I have written our pre-concierge and requested free Swedish massages instead. It doesn't totally make up for the disappointment of not being able to sit in the jacuzzi while sipping champagne watching the sunset, but at least it's something that will be appreciated by all of us.

  4. I didn't say it will totally ruin our cruise, I meant it ruined our surprise Christmas gift.

I'm just saying that we paid a lot of money for this suite and chose it specifically for my Mother-in-law's Christmas gift. Can't you understand why we are all disappointed by this?

We could have just booked a penthouse suite for a lot less money.

  5. I am sooooo mad and disappointed! I just got a call from Norwegian telling me that our Jacuzzi in Suite 8201 sailing this Friday 11/24 will not be functional. They offfered us $300 credit.

I told them I am not happy and that this cruise was a surprise for my Mother-in-law and now it is ruined! We originally booked 9201 but moved to 8201 for the bigger jacuzzi when it became available. The agent said 9201's jacuzzi is also not functional.

    I AM PISSED!

  6. This cruise nearly turned in to a huge disappointment for us, though! Thankfully, it was only nearly, not actually. Here's the story of what happened...

A few days before the cruise, I got a voice mail from my travel agent. His message said he had been contacted by NCL and given some bad news: that the Jacuzzi in the suite we had booked had a serious problem, was not functional, and would be out of operation during our entire cruise. NCL wanted to offer us a $250 onboard credit as an apology for the inconvenience. He wanted to know if I wanted him to accept the offer. This was hugely bad news for us, as that Jacuzzi on the balcony was the whole reason we had booked a cruise on the Norwegian Sky at all. Quite simply, if not for the Jacuzzi, I never would have booked this cruise.

The concierge didn't know that I knew this, though, and to smooth everything over and get me to accept the change of cabins... which would be a win for them, since they would not have to give me the $250 onboard credit they had offered... he told me a little lie. He said that even though the move from suite 8001 to 9001 meant we would have a slightly smaller Jacuzzi, he assured us that 9001 was an even more expensive category of cabin than the one we had booked. In other words, he was trying to sell the deal to me as "an upgrade". This was an outright lie... but I was willing to overlook it, since I was so relieved to have found a way around the problem of the broken Jacuzzi.

    watch it on YouTube.

Thank goodness I booked Suite 8201! I was so nervous when somebody in the boards said one of the jacuzzis was not working.

    Great review!

  7. What sort of "medical" protection?

And, does is include payment is you cancel? And for what reason?

Also, does it include medical evacuation - the biggest expense that is possible?

    $25 can not cover much.

Here’s a screen capture of the email. Looks like it covers enough for a great price...

  8. No and I just paid off 2 cruises. It is easy though to get travel insurance after final payment. I use insuremytrip dot com and they will insure up until the day before the cruise. Plus you get more coverage for less cost than what NCL charges.

I was interested because it says it's only $25 per guest and it includes travel arrangement, medical and baggage protection.

I will give them a call tonight and inquire more about it.

  9. We would never have put my mom, who had a triple bypass and aortic valve replacement a number of years ago, in a situation where she would be left alone by herself in a wheelchair for any length of time, especially in a crowded place like an airport or cruise port. She could walk, but very slowly and not for a long distance, so we always traveled with a folding wheelchair. We always made it a point to stay with her at all times.

We took her on her first Haven cruise a few years ago and I am so glad we splurged on that cruise to make sure she was comfortable. She had so much fun. Little did we know she would be gone a couple of months later...

  10. When the 5 friends were on Sky, we were in 9001. Plenty of room on the balcony for all 5 of us (if I recall correctly, there were 2 loungers and 2 chairs). As to the hot tub, we all sat on the sides with our feet in it, so that we could 1) drink our champagne without getting water splashed from bubbles in it and 2) still see over the railing! Where there's a will, there's a way! Also, we slept 2 in the bedroom, 2 on the Murphy bed, and 1 on the couch. Plenty of room....and more storage space than we could use (and this was FIVE WOMEN!)

Great to hear! We will be 4 women and my husband. That’s a great idea on the use of the hot tub! Thanks!

  11. So you are in an official suite then! We will be in a forward facing suite this weekend-I will be posting a full review of the "suite life" experience when I return! I am looking forward to our second NCL suite and the perks that go with it-including: 1. Priority embarkation/debarkation/tendering 2.Special dining for suite guests for breakfast and lunch in Cagney's with a different menu (so good!) 3. A butler and concierge 4. Special waiting area at POM 5. VIP treatment!!

I'm curious as to what the menu is for Breakfast and Lunch at Cagney's. I will be in the Owner's Suite next month and would love to see the menus if you have them

  12. Not the PP, but we were in 8001 over the Xmas holidays last year and loved it. We're spoiled now and will have trouble going back to a regular balcony cabin..

I know... This will be the first cruise for my sister-in-law and the first suite for my mother-in-law. I first booked a Forward Penthouse with large balcony (there will be 5 adults in our party), but my husband wanted to impress them (they have no idea we are booked in a suite) so we decided to go ahead and upgrade to OS , but only the 9th deck suites were available so I guess we have to take turns on the outdoor hot tub... LOL...
