  1. I'm sure they track the usage of all package users to see if they are making a profit. It is a business after all. The way I look at it is, I know there are many days I may NOT drink $49 worth of drinks, but on other days I will outdrink that amount. My embarkation day bill is usually one of the highest of the cruise. I may drink different amounts of $$ on different days, but I am pretty sure I will break even or even beat the house on certain days over others. It just gives me peace of mind that I don't have to worry about getting billed for EVERY single drink!! My cruise is paid, my tips are pre-paid for SELECT, and my drink package will be pre-paid. We don't do excursions, so my bill at the end of the cruise should be next to nothing!!!

  2. I can tell you my personal take on it - I have to wear a suit and tie to work every day, and while I don't mind the suit, the tie is just an uncomfortable knot around my neck. I usually loosen it once I'm through the door. Also, a tie is an invitation to a dry cleaning bill (one advantage to tuxes, bowties don't fall into your soup!). It's boiling hot this summer in NY, and while my female colleagues get to wear summer work clothes, including short/sleeveless, sandals, etc., the men have to wear the exact same clothes we wear in January. For me at least, a tux is a variation on the routine.

Women, on the other hand, don't wear cocktail dresses, gowns, etc. on a daily basis - unless they have an amazingly glamorous job! ;)

    My two cents...

You hit the nail on the head. Women wear formal clothing that is so lightweight. Usually it is a skirt of some kind and can be sleeveless as well. No matter how lightweight a man's suit is, there is still the shirt, jacket, and pants. I hear people wonder why someone would be wearing a windbreaker when it is 90 plus degrees. But nobody thinks twice about men wearing heavy suit jackets. I do bring the suit on our Princess cruises, but when we sailed Norwegian, I left it home. I may leave it home on our Summit cruise as we are flying and I want to pack as light as possible. I'll just skip formal night and hit the buffet.

  3. Geeez...Princess needs to wake up.

Cruising Alaska is not gonna be the same kind of crowd they would get like when they debark out of NYC on the Carribean Princess. Every night the lounge was packed for Wavelength.

I hope they come back to any line for that matter that debarks out of NYC. I would book it just because they were on it.

There is nothing like a good band that plays great classic rock. Wavelength are very talented musicians.

    Princess,, Wake up!!!

    Hey Marge,

Good to see you on here again. Your cruise leaves the day before us. Are we in any ports together? I gotta check that out. As for Wavelength, that was probably my favorite Princess Cruise so far. Having a real rock band was a major boost. We haven't had as good a band on Princess since. We did NCL over the winter and they had a band called Prizm that were similar to Wavelength and we had a BLAST!! There would be good rock bands tripping over each other to get a gig on a cruise ship. Why doesn't Princess corporate wake up and get some of them?

    Be well.

Hi! I'm going the end of June on Caribbean Princess out of NY. Where on the ship do they play? Gotta check them out

They aren't on the Caribbean Princess anymore. Apparently they were doing Alaska cruises and will be getting off Princess.

  4. You are correct, the contract for performers is 6 months on board plus rehersal time prior to boarding. I'm guessing it is the same for the musicians, but I'm not positive. My daughter is part of the production shows. She had to go thorugh an audition process to get her job. Again I'm not sure what the process for musicians would be. There are several websites with information on cruiseship jobs. Just do a search and you'll find more information than I could ever give you. Good luck.

Thanks for the info!! Is your daughter still on the CB? I am glad you had a great cruise!! Be well,

    Freddie

  5. My daughter just finished her contract on the CB so she was there for the first two theater shows. She said the shows went over great and Wavelength had a packed house both nights. She said the shows were really good. I'm glad they put those guys in the big theater. I just wish I had a chance to see it.

What position did your daughter have on the ship? Did you get special pricing being that you have a family member on staff? Also, how did she go about getting a job on the ship? I would love to play (I'm a drummer) on a ship during the summer. I am a teacher, so I am off for 2 months, but I hear contracts are usually 6 months.

  6. Kathy

I missed Wavelength on the deck.:(

Sorry you missed Rick singing, but if you really want to hear him you can go to myspace.com/laflavour On the right there is a section with some of their original songs. Rick sings "She Don't Know Me" and yes it is the same song Bon Jovi does, but Rick recorded the original verson--long story.

WOW!! I checked out the MySpace page. I am a huge Bon Jovi fan and that is something I did not know. That was a great version to hear. I actually sang two Bon Jovi songs at Princess Pop Star. I am in the process of putting together a Bon Jovi Tribute band in NYC. I would have loved to have met you guys if we were on the same sailing.

You are so right about limited places for bands to play these days. It used to be more of a "rock club" kind of thing. Now it's mostly smaller bars or lounges. No more big stages and lighting, effects, etc. I miss those days. There are some cool places to play here in NYC and the surrounding suburbs, but they are less than in the 80's.

  7. I was also on the 7/10 sailing and had the pleasure of seeing Wavelength. They are good guys as well and make their whole audience feel like a part of the show regardless what night it is. I am also a musician and love good live music. I spoke to Richie, the singer, late one night up in Cafe Caribe. I passed on some NYC booking agency contacts that I have worked with in the past. I told him I was going to get in touch with him b4 the summer ends to find out how it worked out. I will let you know if they have any updates on where they will be next.

Anyone who likes the live band Karaoke thing can find it in some NYC bars. I don't remember which ones offhand, but if I remember, I will post the info.
