  1. Just booked JS on Allure and after reading this assume I can't make res. for dinner in advance. Where do I make the res. when I get on board; same place as specialty restaurants? Have been on Oasis twice and just off Allure, but all were in balconies only.

They don't make reservations ahead of time in Coastal Kitchen, after you board go to Coastal Kitchen and make your reservations, if you know the days and times that you want. If the Allure is anything like the Oasis, it was never full. Enjoy your cruise!

  2. We are also wanting to do the same thing. Taxis was 70. - 90. On way. One of the limo services I looked at was 120. For a van or SUV, and around 90. for a town car both including tip. Not a fan of shared rides and as you stated waiting for the van to fill up. Also watching to see recommendations from others. Not looking for cheap, but quality, and recommendations from several that have had a good experience from a reliable company.

  3. One of my biggest concerns is the perks that were originally listed when we booked' date=' that have disappeared. Some of the big ones for us was access to the Thermal Suite in the spa and Starbucks. Do you think it would put the Genie in an awkward position if I asked to have these perks for our group. I know there is fine print in the program that says the perks are subject to change, but wasn't sure if the Genie could pull some strings.[/quote']

We just got off the Oasis on Sunday Feb 12th. This is what was our Star Class offerings:

    Star Class Amenities0002

    Star Class Amenities0001

    Star Class Amenities0003

Starbuck beverages were included but not the food. Once they charged my account for the Ice coffee at Starbuck's, but Israel took it off our bill. Laundry you will have a black laundry bag in your closet and you can turn in laundry to be laundered and pressed every day if you choose (we only did it once). The hand crafted cocktail cart came around everyday to our room between 3:15 and 3:30, which was nice but we only did it two or three times. We loved the new perks and had a wonderful time, enjoy!

  4. We just got off the Oasis on 12 Feb 2017 and on our cruise CK was starting a new menu for each night. Attached is the links for the new menu's, but I'm not sure if I have them in the right order, this is the order that the Genie (Israel Sanchez) gave them to me in. We only ate at CK once for dinner and that was the first night, once for lunch and that menu never changed, and every day for breakfast that menu also stayed the same. I also have the suite breakfast menu attached as well.

    Day1 New CK Menu's 1

    Day 2 New CK Menu's 2

    Day 3 New CK Menu's 3

    Day 4 New CK Menu's 4

    Day 6 New CK Menu's 5

    Day 7 New CK Menu's 6

    Day 8 New CK Menu's 7

    Day 9 New CK Menu's 8

In Suite Breakfast menu suite room service Breakfast Menu

Not sure why Israel gave me 9 menu's for a 7 day cruise, but this is what he gave me. I hope it helps, at least it will give everyone an idea of the offering.

  5. I'm confused, I thought there was only 3 dinner menus, but the genie sent me 9. Along with all the specialty restaurant menus? Has anyone just recently got off of the Oasis that can confirm?

He also suggested that we eat in the specialty restaurants most nights, and scheduled us for only 2 or 3 nights in CK.

  6. The email came from Royal Genie Services at the following address: info@rccl.com.

The questions appear to be designed to understand you and your family. Samples are:

What is a perfect day for family?

Name 3 things family loves to do on vacation

Who would you want as dinner guests

What is favorite book or movie?

Is family morning or night owl?

What is go to beverage for each group of family?

3 things to bring to a deserted island

    Are you Apple or Android?

    Celebrating anything?

I personally thought these questions were a waste of time. What could the Genie possibly learn from this? I only answered a few of the questions.

The butlers on Celebrity don't do this even when staying in the PH suite, and they provide outstanding service. We don't sail star class until Feb, and I will keep an open mind to see how the genie compares to a butler. We aren't needy people and don't really request much if anything from the butlers, but they always seem to make things extra special even without asking.

  7. Coastal Kitchen is amazing! We can eat here every night!

With only three menus in CK, I'm not sure we will eat there more than three times for dinner. We will be sailing in star class so we also have unlimited free specialty dinning, so Im sure the other four nights we will be in one of the specialty restaurants. I do not see us using the main dinning room at all, nor Windjammer, DH hates buffets.

I'm glad to hear that everyone loves the service and the meals in CK, so I'm sure we will enjoy it. Thanks for reporting!

  8. Snack time has been various sandwiches, hotdogs and hamburgers, and pretzel dogs, and a few sweets.

Breakfast was scrambled eggs, sausage, and made to order eggs including omelettes.

Side note: Windjammer has pre cooked fried eggs and omelettes. Based on the way the omelettes in WJ looked they were made using fresh eggs. At the fried egg station they had smoked salmon and herring.

Have you eaten breakfast in CK, and if so how is it?

  9. We have only cruised Disney before. My wife has been on about 10 and I've been on about 5 or 6. We are cruising on Oasis Feb 2017. Traveling with a family reunion type group, but we are the only ones with a suite. The main reason for the suite was we will have my mother and daughter (13), and we wanted the experience with the perks and space in a room. We saved for a year to pay for this, so we want to make sure we are smart with it.

    Questions-

1- Our Owners Suite will be connected to a regular room, which will be a family member room. Will they be able to accompany us into the suite lounges, restaurant and such? Will others be able to join us?

2- Other than the comedy show, what do we really need to book in advance? Dining?

3- Non-suite question- can we bring the following with us? We live only 30/40 minutes from the port, so bringing this from home or Publix is not a concern

-travel iron -beer, wine, spirits -blender

4- Do we have "free" Internet?

*EDIT* 5- Since it's a suite, what should we look for in terms of tips?

Thanks a bunch for the replies.

We are also on the Feb 5 cruise in a GL suite. You will love the OS nice and roomy for your family and group.

No irons allowed, you can only bring two bottles of wine per cabin, no blenders.

Come join our roll call, you can sign up for the meet and mingle, and meet others going on the same cruise. Here is the link.

  10. I will never ever do it again. Last year we did a 6 night with thousands of Florida State students. They were horrible. They took over the bars. They took over the pool. The took over the hot tubs. Hot tubs were mostly closed the whole trip due to drunk kids vomiting in it. We saw a lot of under age drinking. Kids sharing drink packages. Disgusting loud vulgar behavior in the MDR nightly (example: girls on there knees in front of a guy while he held a beer bottle in front of his private are and everyone yelling chug) I could go on and on. I have never been so happy to get off a ship. We did sit next to three nice young gentleman at the pool one day who were actually studying for the MCAT. They were from the University of Michigan. No surprise there.

This next cruise we are on a very expensive 8 night cruise.

We had pretty much the same experience on a short 5 nighter on the Navigator. It was our first and last time doing a short Spring break cruise. They drank so much, that the crew was doing a lot of carpet cleaning and mopping. The Captain left a bunch of them in Cozumel, for not getting back to the ship in time. I hope the OP's cruise goes better.

  11. If someone can tell me how to post full size pictures rather than the thumbnails, I will post better pictures.

    Thanks,

    Chris :)

The only way I have been able to post regular size pictures, is by using my Flickr account or a similar photo sharing site. If you figure out another way share how you did it, please. :D Thanks again for all the info, and the sharing of pictures and videos!

  12. Thanks Chris, we have been on the Oasis once before, but we stayed in #1732 long before the suite class came along. We had a great time and loved the ship, but was not impressed with the room or service. Since then we've been sailing on Celebrity more, because we love the butlers and their suite dinning room etc. We are really looking forward in seeing if Royal comes close in comparison. Our next two cruises are back on Celebrity after the Oasis, but that could all change if we find we like the star class equally as much.

  13. Thanks for sharing we booked this room for our upcoming Feb cruise. I worried about noise from CK, thanks for the heads up, and now I know to pack ear plugs. Great pics and video, now I'm really getting excited. Do you remember who your Genie was? Also did the Genie contact you a week or so out to assist you with reservations and any special request?

Very happy that you got to upgrade to star class and that you loved your cruise!

  14. 1. Login to your account at americanexpress.com.

    2. If you have more than one Amex card, select the card you want to check.

    3. Click on the "Home" tab.

    4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for "Amex Offers and Benefits"

    5. Just below that click on the "Travel" tab.

    6. Look through the list for one that reads "Royal Caribbean".

    7. Click on the "Add to Card" button.

Irishgal432, Follow the instructions above. We have two Gold American Express cards also, but the offer was only good on my DH card since he is the main card holder. I hope this helps.

  15. Thanks for the info OP, and everyone! I went online to our Gold card offers and added it to my card and also some other great offers, and on Tuesday I made a payment on the RCCL website and in seconds got a text alert that the payment went through, the next day I got an email that the 75.00 credit would be applied. I Love that the online payment system was working for a change and it even sent me a new invoice about 15 mins after making the payment. :D

  16. Well it's kind of a broad question but it's a beautiful ship. We've been on her 4 times with a 5th scheduled, and her sister ship 3 times with a 4th coming up. Eclipse is what is called an S class ship, meaning "Solstice" class. There are 5 in this class, and they are beautiful.

The majority of cabins are the same size, although differently priced depending on location and some amenities, and the Main Dining Room is the assigned dining every night (although there are for-pay specialty restaurants you can go to which we always feel are all part of the whole cruise experience).

Aqua Class cabins are also the same size but they have their own restaurant, Blu, which is smaller and quieter and the capability for customizing items and menus is greater since they are serving far far fewer people.

There are different suites, too. The sky suites are the smallest and those are S1 which are the corner aft cabins (we book those all the time) and the S2 cabins which are not corners. Same size. Then there are larger suites -- Celebrity Suite, Royal Suite and the biggest, Penthouse Suite. Suites have their own restaurant, Luminae, and a private lounge, Michael's club, and a butler.

You can have a fabulous cruise no matter what cabin you choose. We've been in every category except inside cabins (no window).

We like that there is no smoking indoors anywhere and none on balconies and very few exterior locations with smoke. We like that there are no announcements during the day. They assume you're intelligent and can read the printed daily that is put on your bed every day, and make your own decisions about what to do and you also don't need staff around every corner urging you to join this and do that. No signing out for beach and pool towels.

Now you have me excited to sail in 9 or so weeks. Keep reading these boards and check out You tube and you'll find out a lot about the ship. I would caution you, however, that you should leave some things for when you make that first step on board. Don't find out every little thing, so that you have that oooooh and aaaaaaah upon discovering the ship.

    Hi CladudiaB,

We just booked our first S1 on the Eclipse for next Dec. is there a specific room or floor that you prefer? Looking at the deck plans it looks like the higher floors have more indoor space, but being under the bar on the top I would think would be noisy and maybe smoky. What do you recommend?

  17. Ok. A few things to comment on.

So I went back and tried to blow up my original photo of the bottles in the bathroom. Unfortunately with my new iPhone those photos were taken in what's called live mode. Which is like mini six second movies. In case you want to animate a photo. So whenever I try to blow it up too far it starts playing little six second movie. So I can't read the labels any better. Sorry. All I can say is they were very pleasant scents in the shower. :-)

We got the questionnaire about a month out. And personal email about 2 weeks out. So I would not hold my breath on the 8 days after booking.

Terkov- I'm sorry you are not having the ideal experience. Having you wait at guest services like that should not happen. I remember when I stopped at guest services to take care of something, and later told that the Francesco, and he was sort of horrified that I had not asked him to do it. You're not supposed to be waiting in line like that. They're not Butler's, but they are your personal assistant on board. That is a definite drop the ball moment. Hope it improves for you!

All I can say about inconsistencies with the genies is that all of them are still in their very first contracts. All of the genies working today started in the same group. I would hope that there will be some weeding out of those that aren't delivering the standard.

And Chops - I always go to chops when a ship offers it. Personally I found chops on allure to be one of the less than great Chops in the fleet. I'm pretty sure I noted in my original review that the service was not spectacular and I was not impressed by the sides. The filet itself was fine. But yes, I like the fillet better at Giovanni's. In retrospect, I definitely would have done dinner twice at Giovanni's instead of Chops.

    Matt,

I was able to enlarge your photo from my ipad and here is what the bottles looked like.
