This sounds like a dietary restriction to me. I recommend you talk with the head waiter about this dietary restriction. If you order from the head waiter a day in advance, they would be able to leave the sauce off and they may be able to substitute another sauce that you could eat. You would need to tell the head waiter exactly what you mean by "rich sauces" so that he would be able to avoid them.

Without ordering a day in advance, you can still make some adjustments to the MDR menu. For example, you can order different sides with an entrée than the ones listed - as long as the sides you want are available (and they are available if they are listed with any other entrée on that menu). You may also be able to order without the sauce - depending on when the sauce is added.

It certainly would not be any harm to discuss your issues with the head waiter and ask his advice on how to handle them.

I think I will talk to the head waiter this time.  I usually don't want to make a fuss, but my choices can end up being very limited. With a few modifications I would be just fine. Thanks!

  2. We are cruising in a few weeks on the Eastern itinerary.  I haven't heard too much about the casino.  I understand that it is open while at Princess Cay. I also read that it is open at 5PM on the St. Thomas day (the ship leaves at 10PM).  Can someone verify that it does indeed open on those port days. That is very unusual. Also, is it true that the casino is non smoking on formal nights? Nice!  I am a slot player.  Is there a nice selection of popular slots? My DH plays table games and Texas Holdem.  Is there a live Texas Holdem table on the Sky or is it electronic?  Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

look for MaryBethV trip report on Sky Feb 8-15th trip report.  She has posted the dining room menus for every night.

Yes, I have been enjoying reading her review!  That's where I saw the menus.  Thought I would be eating in the buffet all week, but if I can make some adjustment in the MDR, I can eat there.

If you have any food limitations please put that on the Cruise Personalizer & talk to the Maître d’ when you get on board. They will meet with you each night in the dinning room to go over the menu for the next day. The kitchen can make special food items if necessary.

    Please keep us posted.

I don't have any food allergies, but I can't eat raw veggies or rich sauces anymore.  That leaves out my beloved salads and cream soups and most pasta dishes.  Being able to have multiple meat/seafood entrees with the sauce on the side would be great. I like the idea of ordering an entrée as an appetizer size.  I will give the MDR a try!

  4. Search feature didn't help and we haven't been on Princess in a few years.  We are going on the Sky.  I've seen some MDR dinner menus and with my food limitations, it looked like two entrees would work for me on several nights. I'd skip the appetizers and pasta. I'm pretty sure this will be fine, but want to make sure. Thanks!

  5. Are the mini suite tubs deep?  Are there any grab handles to help with stepping in and out when using it as a shower?  Do they have those non slip mats to use or should I bring one?  I am not as spry as I used to be.  Lol.  Thanks!

  6. Headed out on the Sky in a few weeks.  I skip around cruise lines and the search feature didn't help me out.  I don't remember the options on Princess. We don't like to carry tons of cash with us.  I gamble on the slots, my DH on the tables.

Can you charge your cabin without any surcharge?  Usually you can on the slots, but not on the tables. What are the limits for this option?

If I buy OBC can it be used in the casino?  I saw the option of buying casino credits, but why not just use OBC?  It would certainly be more flexible to use on other onboard options.  Again, is there a charge to get chips at the table?  Also, is the OBC refundable?  You never know, we might have some good luck and not need the funds! 😁

With either OBC or charge your cabin feature do you get true cash or just fun play or fun chips?

Lastly, could someone explain the medallion app gambling feature?  Can you use it only when the casino is open?  Anyone like the app or do you think it's a rip off?

  7. Does it have to be in cans?  We are pre ordering some alcohol and soda (for DH), but they don't have cranberry that you can order for the room.  I will be using cranberry juice as a mixer, but they only have plastic bottles at the grocery store.

  8. We usually book either military discount or casino offer.  For far out cruises we usually book military because it is fully refundable and matches early saver.  Our casino offers are a bit cheaper but the deposits aren't refundable.  Has anyone noticed that the military rates are now "early saver" with non-refundable deposits? The military rate is just a few dollars less than the normal early saver.  Very disappointed about this to say the least!

  9. I've done the Skyride to Paradise Point many times over the years.  Last time was too much for me. I have mobility issues, also.  Between the walk from the dock and then the stairs and the leap on and off the tram, plus the steps once you get up there, it was a lot.  I was okay until I had to do it all again to return to the ship.  I was so proud of myself! For the next 2 days I could hardly walk.  Not saying you can't make it, but that will be the last time I attempt it.  I'm looking for a guaranteed way to get a cab up and back now.  The views and the bushwackers are worth the effort!  Good luck.

  10. I need this info also. I love paradise point, but last time I had trouble with the stairs and leap on and off the tram.  I am older now and not as stable on my feet.  Is it really that hard to find a taxi to take you up and return you to the port?  I would panic if I couldn't find a ride back down.  Do taxis hang out at Paradise Point or do they expect you to take the tram?

Angled mid ships mini’s have generous space on the balcony but still the same furniture as other mini’s . Just 2 chairs and a table .

How about using your suitcase ?

I have used my suitcase before.  It does work, but can't get it just right to be comfortable.  It will do in a pinch though. It is odd though that when we were on the Regal, both chairs had foot stools.

  12. What are the requirements for the handicapped Crown Loft?  I can't do stairs very well and have a hard time doing the tubs in the GS.  I am mobile, but have trouble with distances.  I am not in a wheelchair and use a cane on bad days.  I have a handicapped placard for my car.  I would love to experience deck 17 just once.  I don't want to take the cabin away from someone in a wheelchair, but I feel I can't safely handle the stairs.  Thanks!

I just saw this in a catalog I received.  https://www.vivehealth.com/products/inflatable-foot-rest

    It weighs 1.39 pounds

That sounds like it might work. Thanks! Although I am disappointed that the angled minis don't have a footrest.  It can't cost that much to put them out.  I understand the regular balconies are too small for them, but they should add features for the larger balconies.

  14. We have a Sky Princess mini with a larger balcony.  It is on the bump out mid-ship.  Do the chairs have a foot rest like other Royal class ships? The few photos I've seen don't seem to have any.  I struggle with ankle swelling and love to put my feet up on the balcony.  If they don't have foot rests, does anyone have any suggestions on an alternative? I read about others bringing a blow up beachball that they use on the balcony and in the cabin.  It is stored in the cabin when not in use.  I would love to find an easier solution than that.  Thanks in advance!

I would chose the Panama cruise. Not only is the ship newer, and refurbed, but you would be going to the ABCs, South America AND transiting the Panama Canal, all for around the price of a 7-day Southern Caribbean cruise. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

Yes, this!!  The Panama Canal is so special.  The ABCs are unique, very different than typical Caribbean ports.  Don't care for the older ships, so the updated newer ship would be my choice.

On the Breeze the only straws they had were the sugar straws. The coffee bar used metal stirrers that after you used you put in a used container. I think I saw wooden stirrers at Red Frog or Alchemy. I’m glad I didn’t bother bringing straws with me because after the first day the no straw thing was a non issue. I got used to not using a straw very quickly. I think it’s really a bigger deal here on CC then it is in reality.

I've found that I can do without a straw for most situations.  I always used straws before.  An easy change for me.  I can't figure out how they are doing mixed alcoholic drinks. Any input?  The way it has been done for decades....ice, booze, mixer, stirrer and passed to consumer.  Now what do they do?  Do they use a stirrer to mix the drinks?  Do they do it the same old way and you receive an unmixed drink?  I don't order my drinks directly at the bar for the most part, so how would you know?  Doesn't seem well thought out to me.

  17. Oh my, I didn't want to get involved in another straw discussion, but I cruise in 2 weeks and I need some help.  I've cruised on Carnival several times since the straw situation began.  For the most part, I have received a straw or stirrer with all of the drinks when I requested them. I have adjusted to only having a straw in certain situations.  That's a good thing in my opinion.  I don't mind doing my part, but toting around a reusable straw is unsanitary in my book. Too much hand to mouth contamination. Rinsing them off in a public restroom?  Not for me.  What about stirrers for mixed drinks? When you order a vodka cranberry, how do you stir it? With your fingers?  What about those olives floating around in your martini or bloody mary?  Are you supposed to fish them out with your fingers?  How are the ships currently handling these situations?   I'm looking for what to expect so that I can bring on environmentally friendly options.  I found cornstarch individually wrapped straws and individually wrapped bamboo stirrers.  I have a compromised immune system and really can't take too many chances.

Thanks for following along, which room are you in?

We are in 4228.  We had this cabin for our Hawaii cruise several years ago.  It was on the Spirit though.  We love the Spirit class and have sailed on each of them several times.  Heard there was a flood on that deck a few weeks ago and hope that everything is back to normal now. Looking forward to your review.  Happy cruising.
