  1. I sort of thought they might hold back a few spots until boarding day, but on a ship that large, unless you are in the earliest boarding groups, it would be easy to miss out pn noth remaining pay openings or free ones. I don’t know how long it takes to get someone, instructed, prepped, and to actually do their ride. So I wonder how many people will be able to ride each day. Have no idea what hours it would be open. Since Northstar holds more than one person, I would think they could process more people than the actual ride probably takes longer. Guess we’ll find out! By the way, we can’t do our registration on the app until mid May. Still, I tried to look up a number of things on the app, but other than shore excursions and the upgraded beverage package, couldn’t get activities or specialy restaurants to come up. Someone said to go through the website so will probably try that when I get a chance. Thanks again!
  2. Thanks for that very helpful information, Newcruiser2012. I was under the impression you could book it ahead of time like you can f for excursions and dining.
  3. Ashland, do you recall if there were vendors at the port offering other tours as well in Sitka? Wondering if we’ll find that at the other popular ports in Alaska, too -?
  4. I used royal Caribbean app just this past fall without issues. A few weeks ago we did a elenrity cruise and I was able to use that app as well. Our cruise is still a 3 months away with sign in starting May 19. There seems to be so much missing in the app at this point. I have read posts by other people on this same cruise who have said that most of the excursions are sold out. Specialty restaurants do not appear on the app. Only the upgraded drink package appears. Also it showed a place for reservations for the main restaurants that are free. Yet it did not list the 4 restaurants. I clicked on menu and only the children’s menu would appear. I understand. It’s best to make reservations for I Fly and Northstar well in advance. Perhaps these can’t be made until after the sign in.(?) I’m guessing that’s what the problem is. However, if that is the case, I don’t see how people are allowed to make shore excursion reservations, but not reservations for other things before the sign in date. Any help or explanation appreciated!
  5. There is a website run by University of South Florida, that tracks the seaweed. It will show a map and show expected forecast I believe. Sorry, but I don’t have the exact website name but you might be able to find it on a search. Maybe just put in USF sargassum website or something along that line.
  6. Good to know, taglovestocruise. So glad to hear that some shows are late. Allows more time for dining and for those like us who have enough time to catch a breath after being on shore, yet still have a chance to hsve the hors d’oeuvres in the Diamond Lounge. On those nights with late shows we can have dinner yet not miss the show. (Since you said “some shows” I assume show times varied?) Still, not happy to hear the food was not good. ☹️ So many of the excursions and activities are sold out in advance. Must’ve been very disappointing for those who were excited about doing things like I fly, but didn’t know they had to reserve so fast. We’ve always loved the larger ships, but have to admit, the more passengers & cool activities they put on them, the more people are going to be unable to take advantage of some of them. A big thanks for your reply!
  7. Thanks everyone. I think some of the answers themselves to personal experience, or may be opinions. Just goes to show though don’t believe everything you read, lol. (I mean that in regard to the post I saw about kinky boots being on the Ovation.)
  8. We’ll be doing an Alaskan cruise on the Quantum with family members. I have a number of questions after having read many posts and reviews about the ship. 1. Are the main shows always performed twice a night? If so, what are the times? Or do they jump around like on the Oasis class? 2. How limited are the hours for bumper cars, roller skating, I fly and Northstar? (I’ve seen different prices for Northstar & I fly ranging from $15 pp to $30 pp! Except free on port days, heavily booked, and long wait lines.) 3. I understand the menus in the four main, free dining rooms are all the same. However, do the entrées and things change nightly or is there a lot of repetition? Are there certain specialties in each of these restaurants, each night that difference between the four restaurants? (We were recently on an E class ship on Celebrity that had the four dining room style. We did not like it at all and found the things served were very, very repetitive. Did not know Quantum had a similar dining style until after we had already booked it. ☹️) 4. What did you think of the Royal Promenade style on the Quantum as compared to the Oasis and Voyager class ships? 5. Did you like the shows? I understand there is no Broadway musical style show on the Quantum, even though Kinky Boots is on the Ovation. 6. If you had children or teens, did they enjoy the special activities & venues for their ages? Sorry for so many questions! If you can only answer , one or some, of the questions, please do. Would greatly appreciate any helpful input.
  9. I never realized, reallyitsmema (great screen name, by the way!) that re connecting cabins, the one that sleeps more than two is always on the right when you’re facing the cabin entries from the corridor. Great tip! As for searching for a cabin via Google, I’ve searched for exact cabin numbers on certain ships before, and different ones come up. I don’t usually get the actual cabin. Most often I get a cabin of the same type in that category. Maybe I’m not lucky or looking hard enough. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
  10. Thank you so much, reallyitsmema! How did you find out? njcruzer, i’ve seen videos of the Quantum‘s interiors and photos of various cabins, but no way to tell what cabin most of those are. Thanks for the suggestion.
  11. Thank you both for the info. I also assume both ships have the exact same cabins according to numbers, but??? I know the cabin holds three. I’m more concerned about where the bed(s) and sofa are located as the locations vary.
  12. Does anyone happen to know where the bed is located in cabin 6692 on the Quantum OTS? Wondering if the bed is just past the bathroom or is it more towards the balcony end of this cabin? I know that, in general, the cabins side by side, alternate bed locations. Cabins 6690 & 6694 are on either side of 6692, so it’s likely it is the opposite of those. Thanks for any information!
  13. Thanks for that link, jeromap! Will be on a royal Caribbean ship, and I was able to find our pier
  14. FaceTime looked at some of those already, but thank you. I’m sure we will find something. Thanks!
  15. Thanks for replying. I know that’s true and many, many ports, but fear Alaska might be different because it’s not as highly populated in the small port towns as many other places we visited. Dd needs to decide if it might be better to skip an Alaskan cruise this year and shoot for some other year.
  16. dfilpus, got me thinking maybe we can bring the scooter. I can just fold it up into suitcase, size and lift it down the steps. DH will probably tell me not to bring it though.
  17. Mendenhall does have ADA accessibility. You can get more information here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongass/about-forest/offices/?cid= The above reply to was posted by Coram a few minutes ago on my duplicate question post. (Huge thank you to her!) i guess the powers that be pulled that duplicate post off which is fine. Since that title is now missing. I just hit the back button a number of times until I got to it, copied the post on that thread and moved it onto this one so others can see it.
  18. Thank you so very much for this link, Carol! Super helpful. I think it will be doable for us..
  19. Wondering if anyone out there who has taken a regular bus tour to Mendenhall glacier, could answer a few questions. Would the terrain at the sightseeing areas in the park and around the visitor center be difficult for someone with a a bit of a walking disability? We are considering doing the blue bus to Mendenhall glacier. While my DH can walk a fairly good distance, although just a bit slower than a normal gait, he must be careful. Hilly trails & bumpy, rocky, terrain or icy ground can be difficult to undoable for him. He often avoids areas require a very good balancing ability. We have a small foldable travel scooter, but of course, would not expect to be bringing that on this particular tour as I’m pretty sure it would be impossible to use there. Any information about the destination would be helpful.
  20. If you are sailing on the Encore or the Bliss, from mid June to mid July, are you finding most of the shore, excursions, especially the best ones, are already booked? I’m guessing they likely are. Family members about to book a cruise to Alaska on another line, but the excursions are said to already be sold out. So before they finalize, just wanted to check and see what I can find out. Thanks for any helpful info. (For the record, most independent operators are also filled.)

  22. Good point, but it was already happening somewhat before Covid. Been on over 50 cruises and I started noticing it some while back. I agree though in Nassau we have been there when there are eight ships! I agree that size and number of ships definitely points to that and somewhat, no doubt, Covid causing companies to fold. Thanks for your reply.
