  1. As a solo traveler I feel that around 150% would be about right. I know as the cruise date gets closer that prices might go down so why not fill the cabins with solo cruisers before deep discounting? Or base the supplement on our cruise history and loyalty.

I would love a solo balcony with a smaller footprint. I hope the cruise lines are listening. In my dream world I would love a solo HC balcony at a great price.....and a port in Arizona.

For now I will book about a year to a year and a half out and not enjoy many price breaks.

    Happy travels to all

  2. Hello all. Charlie and I (Anne) are looking forward to this 2015 28-day cruise on the Crown. Sea days are normally the BEST part of a cruise for us, but the ports on this one are sure to be wonderful. I suspect we will meet again with many wonderful people we have enjoyed on past cruises. We look forward to that. I love knitting and look forward to our Knitters and Natters group which meets on seadays. Is there anyone on this thread that will be bringing their handcrafts aboard?

We have booked the 7 day Mexican cruise just after this one too. Anyone else doing that one?

    Aloha,

I will be enjoying the sea days with you! I will be bringing some embroidery to help pass the time. I am sure we will be able to find a comfortable spot were we can watch the waves and work.

There is a very active roll call for this cruise and I have read about quite a few options for sea days. It seems there are lots of card games getting organized and other fun stuff like slot pull, cabin crawl and more.

Can't wait!! I have to survive the summer in Arizona but time will fly.

Happy travels and see you soon

  3. Oh my goodness..... Your story is sad yet beautiful. I agree that sharing is all part of the healing process. I did discuss with my sister and she was happy to hear that we would not let his one year pass without a "quiet memorial." She also agreed that the calming seas would help the day pass without being at home alone grieving. I have his pictures packed, battery candles, and notes.

"Time is not measured by the minutes we are here on earth, but by the moments."

The sea is so beautiful and powerful and I hope every wave brings you peace. In our family we have saying that we use often.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky and all the sand in the ocean.

Love continues and it sounds like you have a sweet plan. I hope it is a balm to your sadness.

  4. I was thinking of a cruise between the West Coast to Chile and wondered if you had any experience using the scooter in South America?

I was going to check about possible rentals for use on the cruise as it seems such a hassle taking from here (Honolulu) and back.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Sorry, I haven't been to South America (yet) but I can tell you that many countries do not have the great sidewalks and access that we do here in the USA.

My experience using it on airlines was great and I do use a walker with a seat for some ports. If you can use a walker it does help with tenders and in some shops and on tours.

It sounds like you might not use the scooter on the ship but I can tell you some times it helps conserve your energy.

Have a wonderful time and call several companies to check on prices for rentals. I decided I would bring my own and use it on all my cruises. I was very lucky in finding mine used at an excellent price that was about the cost of one rental.

Please ask any questions you would like.

    Happy cruising

  5. There is a vending machine in the gym on the Royal that does have soft drinks in it. Used it in January. You can purchase from it using your cruise card. The price is the same as elsewhere on the ship and includes the service charge.

I do enjoy my soda but I find it funny that if I pay for one from a machine and I carry it off that I have to pay a service charge. I could tip myself I guess.

  6. I take my scooter with me when I fly to the cruise. I also have a Pride Go Go and love it. I bought my scooter off of Craig's list and it has a wagon trailer on a hitch. I won't be bringing my wagon on the cruise.

Having a scooter at the airport is wonderful because of the distances and I don't like being pushed in a wheel chair. I will be getting a rack on the back of my scooter for my walker and I will use the walker on the tender ports. I have been told that cruise line transfers have a limited number of spaces available for scooters for the trip from the airport to the pier. Book early and let them know you are bringing your wheels.

I always get an HC room and the larger room makes it much more easy to turn the scooter around and not have to back out. Some scooters will not fit through a standard cabin door so check carefully. I don't know about you but I do not need to dodge my scooter while it is charging.

    Good luck and happy travels.

  7. I am so sorry for your loss. I am so glad that caring people were there to assist you during this difficult time.

It made me think of all the crew on the ships that have experienced loss while working far from home. I am so glad that there are wonderful people out there among us.

    Thank you for sharing.

  8. My husband needs to have knee replacement surgery. He is doing one knee in June and the other in September. Will not be able to recover before cruise this year.

I am so sorry that you might not be able to go. I am booked on this cruise and I have had both knees replaced. What if you did the June surgery and then used a scooter for the trip and then set the second surgery for after your return?

Your husband could recuperate with the best tan ever. Between my surgeries I had an injection in my bad knee that was wonderful.

You can rent a scooter that is sized for the individual. I even checked and you can rent recliners for your cabin if you have an HC cabin.

I hope all goes well for you both and you can have this cruise to look forward to either this year or next. Good luck.

  9. Thank you for asking this question. I enjoyed the Persian Garden on the Infinity many years ago and will return for a journey through the Panama Canal and I wondered if it was still the same.

Current pricing and what is currently included would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You

    happy travels

  10. AS I am in the habit of elevating my feet while sitting, and truly missed being able to do so while sitting on the balcony, I finally figured out a way to do so. I purchased an inexpensive inflatable beach ball. blow it up about 2/3 of the way, and presto! I have a cushy place to prop my feet! At the end of the cruise I deflate it, and tuck it in my suitcase to take home till the next cruise. It sure has made balcony sitting much more comfortable.

    Great idea. thank you.

  11. I know, I know. Lots of sand but no waves. We do have some fun critters out there in the desert and it does get a little warm in the summer but no love bugs.

I would love to be close to a ship parking area but as it is I need winning lottery tickets now.

  12. Ok, I am older and these are dream items. I wish I could have my recliner. It helps so much with my joints. If I am dreaming could I please have an easy access hot tub? On my monster balcony....in the shade....for free.

    Thank you for asking.

  13. I was 18 years old and returning from a summer of study at Oxford in England. There was not a lot of glamor on the first Ryndam with bunks with a wooden edge to keep you from falling out. This was like a student transport. The food was good and I can remember the dining room also had a wooden lip on the table to keep plates from sliding. Don't you love the stable ships now? I will always remember coming into NYC and seeing the Statue of Liberty. I am still thrilled every time I see it and every time I step on a ship.

I have an newspaper from England with the headline about the moonwalk during the summer.

  14. I have to disagree with you 100%.

Nobody here is complaining about legitimate service animals. Rather they are complaining of those who claim a household pet is some "therapy" or "support" animal. I live in New York and see far too many animals brought on the subway and into food stores in blatant violation of safety and sanitation laws. (Or maybe I'm just jealous that I don't have a cute dog or am not clever enough to use ADA laws to take little Fluffy everywhere.)

Household pets are not trained and disciplined service animals. Pets often get nervous and hyperactive in an unfamiliar environment as on a ship.

So if somebody brings an unruly animal on board I'm supposed to presume it's legetimate and not "hurt their feelings"? They sure don't care about how their animal is affecting everyone else. (And that not even starting on the allergy issues.)

    When Pigs Fly

I agree with you. I don't care why the person has brought the hound or what excuse they have used I don't need to have a pet sharing my vacation. I am tired of the self indulged few who think we will all love to have fido around.

Yesterday at the grocery store there were two dogs. These were not service dogs, which I would welcome. One guy was strolling and not shopping with a huge dog. The other was a pit bull pulling on the leash with all his might. I mentioned it to the manager to no avail.

Why don't people leave the dogs home? Sorry, I would not welcome a cruising neighbor that barks.

  15. I have told my kids that I want to be buried at sea. If I passed on a cruise I wonder if you could be cremated where ever you are? Why go through the process of transportation home and back to the sea?

I would like to have my children fly to where I am and let's keep it simple.

That is my circle of life plan. Happy and safe travels

  16. Look for the website that has a 90 day ticker. We are not supposed to promote certain travel sites but this site has served me well.

Find the ticker(list) and look for the single supplement listing. I often look on the regular list and sometimes the prices are so good it wouldn't hurt quite so much to pay the supplement.

    Happy travels

  17. I brought home some sourdough mixes that were very easy to pack. the shopping available for gifts is everywhere. Pop into almost any store and you will see a wide assortment. We found a great tea shop.

We did buy one of those knifes and have enjoyed it. My daughter bought a carved polar bear and has loved it for years.

Have fun and enjoy beautiful Alaska

  18. The kind stranger might never read how she touched your family but we can all honor her kindness by helping that tired mother when we see them. It might be an elderly neighbor or me at the store in my scooter and I can't reach that bargain on an upper shelf.

That moment of kindness can influence us for a long time and even like this moment it can influence others like dominoes falling. A smile and a kind hand can evaporate some sorrow.

We are so lucky to be able to travel and to be able to communicate across the world. Thanks to the OP for sharing. I hope the stranger reads your post but I have a feeling she is a happy fulfilled person at peace with the world.

    Happy travels to all
