  1. Found this video of Hurricane Nicole as she was hitting Bermuda. Actually I thought everything looked liked it was holding together well, except for the flash at the end of the road washed out.

    Jeepers!!

The person who put it all together has it as the Bahamas....

  2. Thanks for all the info. NCL is saying Bermuda is still scheduled. We will be happy where ever we end up going. We haven't been on The Dawn so that will be fun checking out a different NCL ship. We have been on The Gem, Pearl, Breakaway and Spirit.

We knew when we booked this last year there was a chance of a hurricane.

You have a great attitude!! We are cruising on the Dawn for the 7th time next Friday, have a great trip wherever you may wind up.

  3. Two years ago we cruised to Bermuda in October. I think Hurricane Gonzalo hit the day before we were cruising. We knew were weren't going to Bermuda, but even the morning of the cruise NCL kept telling us that no change had been made to the itinerary, so we packed a couple of sweaters in case we wound up going to Canada. On our ride into the Black Falcon terminal I read a post on Cruise Critic that we were going to the Bahamas. We were probably the happiest people in Boston. We had just cruised Boston to Bermuda 5 months before and we were excited for the change. We had a great time!! So be ready for anything!! Bring a sweater, just in case, but hopefully you will still go somewhere warm!!

  4. We were rerouted 2 years ago. We found out via cruise critic while driving into the port. We knew we werent going to bermuda, we werent sure if we were going to Canada or the Bahamas. We were just happy to be going on a cruise. Hope you have a good time.

  5. They may have created that update at 11, but it certainly wasn't on the website at 11. When I posted at 11:14 the 10:30 message was still on the website. The Sky was just beginning to enter the Miami port and that was why I wondered how come they were still showing the embarkation of the Sky being on time, when it was already 11:15 and no ship in the port yet.

They didn't post that message until sometime after 11:15.

    I noticed it at 11:30....

  6. I thought NCL should have posted an update this morning on their website.

They waited for the worst to pass and posted this at 11 am:

Hurricane Matthew Update - October 7 at 11:00 AM (3:00 PM UTC)

At Norwegian Cruise Line, the safety and security of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance. The company is continually closely monitoring weather systems, including the tropics, and all Norwegian Cruise Line ships offer state-of-the-art radar and weather equipment. In the event of inclement weather, we have the flexibility to sail a route around the affected area.

Currently, we are very closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Matthew. To ensure a safe and enjoyable cruise for all we have made the following adjustments:

*Norwegian Sky will have a slightly delayed embarkation today at PortMiami. The ship's three-day cruise departing today will not visit Nassau as scheduled and will instead remain at sea. Guests will receive a 50% credit towards a future cruise.

*Norwegian Escape will not call on Nassau as scheduled today and will instead spend the day at sea.

*In order to avoid any potential bad weather associated with the storm, Norwegian Breakaway will depart from Bermuda today two hours earlier than scheduled, at 1:00 PM.

*At this time, there is no change to embarkation for Norwegian Escape on Saturday, October 8. Should there be any changes, guests will be advised via phone and text messages and updated information will be posted on http://www.ncl.com.

Currently, the remainder of our ships are sailing as scheduled and are not impacted by the storm’s path.

Any further updates will be posted to http://www.ncl.com.

  7. YA Never Know!!

I entered into a unforeseen disability retirement 8 years before I planned to.

    .

Sorry about your disability, but happy you can still cruise. When I retire, I am thinking about applying for a job at Black Falcon checking cruisers in!! I will be a young 60 when I retire, and this would be a fun job!! (my dad retired from the phone co and worked at fenway as an usher for 15 years, retirement jobs should be fun)

  8. Anyone know what the chances are that the ship will be able to broadcast the world series playoffs in October?

You should be able, we have watched baseball, hockey and football while on cruises....

We will be on the Dawn the week the World Series starts, there will be mutiny on the ship if the Red Sox make it to the series and it isn't shown!!

  9. Great idea about the creamer!! I hate those little creamers too! Thanks! I am finding out about sooooo many things that I missed out on - I may not need the M & M's but I want them..lol

We soaked the gummy bears in Captain Morgan's Rum and had "rummy gummies" that we shared at the pool, LOL!!

I didn't ask Dominic for the cream, he saw me walking back from the buffet with a cup full of cream and told me he would get it for me for the rest of the cruise, and he did!!

  10. We sailed on the Dawn last week. They had shuffled the butlers and we ended up with Dominic. Having sailed in a lot of suites, we thought that Dominic was the WORST butler we ever had. Yeah, he kept the gummy bears and M&M bowls full,,,, but didn't meet the mark in many respects.

    In general

Butler $10 per person per day

Concierge $5 per person per day

Steward $5 per person per day

I wonder if there is more than one Dominic? We were in the DOS, he wrote down everything, brought me cream everyday (I hate the little coffee creamers), arranged to have our steward decorate the suite for our anniversary, kept the water and soda stocked, set up breakfast for us once (we never ate lunch or dinner in the suite). He exchanged out one of our bottles of alcohol. It was our 5th time in a suite on the DAWN and he was by far our best butler.

  11. Anyone ever sailed on the last cruise before a drydock? Looking for cons or if any pros. Thinking of booking the Jade for the 3/06/2017 sailing...

I was on the Dawn on the last cruise before the dry dock this past May. They started doing a little work on the promenade deck, but that was about all I noticed.

  12. As I understand butlers have different suites each trip. We definitely lucked out. In my conversations with him he's leaving the Dawn sometime in October for the rest of the year. He's not sure he'll be back on the Dawn when he returns.

We are cruising on the Dawn again in October, we aren't in a suite this cruise, but are hoping to run into Dominic!!
