It wouldn't help you even if you could translate it, as the "word" fields tend to be abbreviations and lists of trade unions, which wouldn't mean much to you.

Right now I only see one other planned transport strike in October, on the 2nd, and as it's cleaners it won't stop the trains.  Remember when you look at the list that dates are styled day-month-year.

    Awesome, thank you!

I would love comments on what happens when your ship is planned to port on a day that has been announced for a nationwide transportation strike of trains, taxi & bus.  Our ship is scheduled to visit Civitaveccia on Oct. 20, 2023.  A general nationwide public & private transportation strike has been announced/posted for that day.  Anyone experienced this recently?  I know there have been numerous transportation strikes lately in Italy.  I do not belive this is a strike of the port authority workers, just bus/train/taxi.

Is there a way to change that page to English? Trying to see if there are other dates. We are in Italy earlier in the month.

It's not Italy, but the EU that has cabotage laws similar to the PVSA in the US.  However, since the members of the EU are sovereign nations and not states like the US, it gets a bit more complicated, and "downlining" could be disallowed in certain circumstances, but generally it is okay.  The OP's situation should not be a problem.

Awesome! Hope for the best but plan for the worst case scenario is my motto. Ha

Just back from a Princess cruise out of Rome (with Naples as the next stop), and there happened to be a train strike in Rome on embarkation day, so yes, hundreds of folks were delayed/late and had to join the ship the next day.  I even met one woman who joined the cruise four days late, as she had some other issues with travel.

Luckily for us (not really luck, I am an intense planner) we arrived in Rome multiple days before the cruise, and also took a private shuttle car to the port.

Since your ship is departing late at night, you should have no problem boarding the same day the flight arrives (there may be a one or two hour cut off for embarkation before ship departure).  Do you have transportation reserved already from the airport, or will you take a taxi?  The cost is about 150 Euros for a taxi.  Does RC offer some kind of transportation you can purchase?

    Have a great time!

I was planning on taking the train but wondered if I need a back up planned in case of train strike.  I believe those are planned ahead of time so should have some notice.

If you're already in Europe, you should be fine as there will be other flights you can jump on to get there (at your expense). Royal has a department for day-of travel emergencies that you can call in an absolute last case scenario to make plans to meet the ship if possible. Linked here.

Awesome!  Thanks for the info.  I will be able to enjoy our time precruise so much more. The whole reason we will be in Europe to begin with is the event in Belgium. Added the cruise on last minute.

  6. . We have an event in Belgium the day before that conflicts with the last flight to Rome the night before. If I could have been on it I would have booked it. Believe me.   We are supposed to land in Rome at 930 am so have as much cushion as I could get with a 8pm departure that night.   I can call Royal.. Just wanting to see if anyone on CC has any insight.

  7. Have been wondering what happens if we have a flight cancellation or delay and miss embarkation in Rome.  Would we be able to meet the ship in Naples which is the first stop?  I seem to remember that this wouldn’t be allowed from a US port.  If you miss embarkation you can’t try to catch up.    It would be an easy, cheap, train trip down to Naples if it were allowed. If it has to happen, Rome with Naples as the next stop would be the place to do it.  Knowing we have that option would  ease my mind so much about flight delays.   Any one have any idea?

  8. We are starting our cruise in Rome for no other reason than the dates worked better for us. I read something recently that the majority of people start in Barcelona.  Maybe 500 total start in Rome.  If I had to guess I would have thought it was 50/50.  Anyone have an explanation for why so few in Rome? I am kinda hoping it is true. Sounds like it will be easy check in and empty ship most of the day for us if we check in early. We land at 930am from Brussels and I was planning on going to Rome for a few hours and the head to the ship. Didn’t realize how much back tracking that will be until I looked at the map.
and yes I am nervous about flying in day of but the whole reason we will be in Europe was I wanted to go to Gymnastics World championships which team final is the night before in Antwerp. We added the cruise on last minute.   Catching the first flight out in the morning.

if the ship leaves at 8 I assume we need to check in by 6 pm?

Oh, that's great.  If you don't have to be there until 6 PM you have options.

Going to Termini in this case makes more sense, because there is a left luggage office right at the station where you can safely leave your bags while you spend some time in Rome.

I would consider the 16:57 Frecce that arrives to Civitavecchia at 17:44, if you buy the ticket to Civitavecchia Porto it also includes the bus to the cruise terminal.  It gets you to the terminal at 18:05, if the ship isn't going anywhere until 20:00 I don't think the five minutes will make a difference.

If that feels too risky there's also the 16:23 Civitavecchia Express train from Ostiense (arrives at 17:35 with the bus to the terminal).  You'd need to add the time to take the metro from Termini (assuming that you checked your bags there) to Ostiense but even with that it gets you another hour or two in Rome.

  10. I only booked this trip a few days ago so literally have a very steep learning curve about what to do. In my mind , I thought we would have plenty of time to do something in Rome before heading to the ship. If nothing else eat lunch and have gelato. Ha  (I realize my plane could be delayed which will derail everything.  I have been eyeballing the 1357 train. Is that a terrible idea?

  11. I keep trying to purchase tickets for October 5th. October 5th is highlighted on the calendar but I keep getting a message that “travel solution refers to the next day” and it switches the tickets to the 6th.  If I put the date as the 4th it switches them to the 5th. What is going on?

Also how do I specify I want the express train? I don’t see that as a choice. Is the inner city train the express train? The Frecce time slots that are left will make us leave Rome at noon. We want a little more time in the city. Trying to choose the 1557 train.
Getting a late start researching all this because just booked the trip a few days agp.

  12. We are have appointments  scheduled to use the government tests in two days, our cruise is this Friday.  I had to go back to the website a few times because they were sold out.  I think I was trying to book to far in advance was the problem.   I think the website is rapid text and trace or something like that.

I did a random test this morning just to relieve my anxiety that I might randomly be positive.  Gotta make it through one more day with out catching Covid from any patients at work.  Made it two and a half years so I think my chances are good that I will be fine. Just my luck though. Fingers crossed.  I should have just taken this whole week off. Ha

  13. Oops I am sorry I thought you said Skagway.  I looked into it there but decided to Kayak in Sitka and bike in Skagway.   I don't like riding on the road and thought the Dyea road would have fewer cars.    Have no experience to back that up though.

  14. We are booked on July 6th with Klondike Electric bike in Skagway so I can let you know after next week.  We plan to ride the 18 miles round trip out to Dyea.    It looks like there is at least one big, long hill that it will be very nice to have the extra boost.  Their bikes look really nice and new.  We have done long ebikes trips in Ireland and Austria in the past few years.   You still have to pedal but makes for a very enjoyable day.  Rode in all day rain in Ireland, beautiful sunny day in Austria.  We will see what we get in Alaska.  Could end up being both, lol.   Now if I can just pass my covid test and not have my flight canceled, I am ready!!

You should book your flights through your TA.  They will tie them to the cruise ship (just a real small increase in airfare price) and then the cruise line is responsible for getting you to the ship if your flights are cancelled.

I have never done that before because we usually use points.  But have been thinking I wished we would have for at least my daughters leg.    In any case they have a back up now so just have to hope for the best.   Almost hope they have to use the back up so I can tell my husband told you so 🤣😂

I don't understand how folks can go on a vacation with so much stress on their minds.  To me it would be totally not worth it.

We have traveled the world without many issues but the past year has been terrible in terms of flight problems.   Then this wedding this weekend put me over the edge.  Our flight was 3 hour delayed, DD boyfriend flight cancelled along with 2 of the bridesmaids.  The were 24 hours late getting to Utah.  Coming home, friends flight canceled.  They got on a flight 8 hours later finally,  Maid of Honor flight canceled and delayed she was still in Utah 36 hours later.   There were numerous more examples.   All different airlines coming from all over the country.     That is what made me hedge my bets and book the back up flight.  If that doesn't work it just wasn't meant to be for us all to make the trip.

  17. We cruise out of Vancouver on Radiance of the Seas in 2 weeks.  After flying to Utah this past weekend I heard story after story of all the canceled and delayed flights.  Last night I went ahead and booked a back up flight   I am pretty sure everyone I talked to who had flown in had a significant delay and /or canceled flights.  Three of us are flying out 2 days ahead so I am not worried us.  We have lots of leeway to get there on time.  My daughter and her boyfriend are flying the day before.  If they miss their connection in Dallas there are only a few flights the next morning that will get them to Vancouver in time. I was afraid if flights were canceled the night before the chance of there being seats the next morning will be slim.   They paid for their original flight but for my peace of mind I went ahead and booked them the 5 am flight the next morning just so they have a back up.   It was more expensive to get refundable seats but worth it so I can stop stressing.    If they have to end up needing those seats it will be money well spent in my mind.    The only issue is if they never make it out of St Louis in the first place.  Then we are still screwed but not much else we can do.     Has anyone else taken this step or am I crazy?    Now as long as I didn't get Covid at the wedding we will be good.   My husband had Covid last month so he is good to go.
