  1. If you are not there on Thursday but find a dive shop who will take you, let me know who it is please. I had pretty much given up and we are just going to snorkel. We have a private driver too. We are going to hike a Carambola Park and then go to west bay unless can find a dive company who will respond.

Nevermind, I looked it up and you are there Friday and we are there Thursday. Bummer I got excited.

  2. What day will you be in roatan? WE will be there thursday and have a reservation to dive, but they are going to cancel on us if at least 2 more people don't sign up. They won't go out with just two. If we are there on the same day we would love to share a boat!! My girls will be so sad if they don't get to scuba.

I can't remember who the company is off the top of my head. I contacted them about 2 months ago and they said they would contact me if they were able to fill the boat. I have not heard anything. My daughters scuba teacher here in town recommended infinty bay and Anythony's key but neither one of them responded to my request at all I think it is bananarama who said they would take us.

Let me know if you are there next Thursday March 20th?!

  3. This is totally switching the topic to travelers checks but my daughter is spending the upcoming summer in spain. When we were looking over the packing list last night the teacher recommended travelers checks. I was trying to figure out the best way for her to have cash over there but travelers checks seem so out dated. Will have to think about this. Will she have to go to a bank to cash them? I haven't used a travelers check in probably 30 years.

  4. What my DD and I do is if we book our own excursions, I make an envelope for each port...in each envelope I put the reservation conformation and enough cash for the excursion plus any spending money I may want for that port...I write the port on the envelope and put all of them into the safe....then, at each port, I take out that envelope and leave the rest in the safe. I usually carry a cc with me at port too, just incase I find something I just cant live without..lol..But, the envelopes work really well to make sure you have the cash you need for each excursion and tip for the opperator.

I do the same thing!! It works really well so that I do not run out of cash to pay a cab in the last port! I never carry cash in my "real" life but this works well for me.

I put my envelopes together last weekend. 9 more days!!!

  5. I was with a group of 14 in Roatan. We had a driver from Victor Boddan drive us all over in the morning and then had day passes for 10 dollars a person at Mayan princess resort at West bay beach. So for basically $35 a person - ($25 pp for driver and $10 for day pass) had a GREAT day. A few of us hired a snorkel boat to take us out when at West bay for like 15 bucks a person and banana boat ride was $5 a person. Everyone had a great day, I was glad to have a reserved chair and umbrella at the beach. yeah! Roatan is now my favorite - I will be there again in just about 2 weeks!

  6. Where does it tell you if you are tendering? I got a surprise two years ago when we had to tender in Roatan. I had never heard of anyone having to tender there before that. It took forever to get off that ship.

I have never tendered in Cozumel but there are like 8 -10 ships in port wirh us. I do not want any surprises in Cozumel this time.

Only one other ship in Roatan with us this time and they will go to Mahogany Bay so I think we are safe there.

  7. I will look at Fab tours. Coral breeze hasn't been getting very good reviews which has kept me away from them. I guess I can always wait until we get to shore and see which tour operators are available. I usually like to have my s*** together though to know what we are doing and where we are going once our feet hit land.

    Thank you.

  8. Cave Tubing? - done that

    Ruins? done that.

Now what? Our upcoming cruise is March 16th. Determined to get out on the water this time.

While tempted to book a ship excursion to avoid the tender situation, as soon as I decide that, I see the prices and change my mind - the shark/ray/caye caulker trip though NCL is $109 times four people! So then I go back to just taking the water taxi to CC. Worry that my very active husband and two girls will get bored if we just wander around town. I see snorkel operators doing trips from CC but their timing won't work for cruise passengers.

I don't see any independent tours doing a snorkel/with a stop at CC.

Ahhhhhh, I have bounced around between Bannister Island (which I am not sure they even go there anymore) Goffs and CC for weeks. What to do, what to do. I keeping coming back to the water taxi but...

  9. I have been going round and round what to do here on our third trip. One minute I will have decided on water taxi to cc and next independent tour to Goff's Caye and next ship excursion to beach break ( not sure if it still goes to Bannister island) Have done cave tubing and altun Ha/river wallace in the past. Ahhh... the pros and cons of each are making me crazy.

Did you buy your water taxi ticket ahead of time? I want to be able to leave on which ever one is soonest after I get to shore. Not sure I want to be tied down to a particular company?

  10. You all sound knowledgeable about diving in roatan so would like your opinion. We will be in Roatan in March during a cruise. My 16 year old daughter and her 16 year old friend took scuba as their P.E. class last semester. They did their open water dive in a lake and got certified in October. They definitely want to Scuba during our cruise I am trying to figure out the safest, most professional dive shop for them to use in Roatan. I called the instructor who taught their Scuba class. She recommended Anthony's Key or infinity. If we go with AK we can only book through the cruiseline. It is 149 through NCL. So much more expensive than booking directly some where else. If AK is the safest way to go I will pay every penny but if Infinity, BananaRama etc are equally professional I would rather not do a ship excursion.

    Any thoughts?

Sorry if I hijacked this thread. :)

  11. My daughter took scuba as a P.E, class at her high school last semester. The local dive shop who ran the class orgainizes trips around the world for scuba. They recommended we use Anthony Key or Infinity Bay in Roatan. The owner of the shop, who I was on the phone with, knew those names right off the top of her head and said she had used them many times. Good enough for me.

Will will be there this March on the Jewel. So excited. I love roatan. wish they would drop me off for a week and come and get me the next time around.

  12. That is what happened to our group on NCL regading ages in the dance club. 17 and 18 year olds were all in the disco before 11:00 pm but at 11 pm the 17 year olds were kicked out. Which had the effect of making them all leave because the 18 year olds didn't want the "younger" friends to be left out. It would be maddening because when the kids left, the result was the place would be empty.

(On another note, reading over my reveiw from two years ago that I posted above, I clearly took no time to edit my grammer/typos back then, lol. Oops.)

  13. Ok, I did a senior year cruise with a group of Mom's and Daughters two years ago and can answer the specific question you asked.

They were not allowed go to the teen club if they were 18. I have posted the link to my review of our trip below. The third bullet point addresses this exact issue.

They all had a good time but it really kind of sucked that they were in a no man's land. Second daughter graduates next year and we are all ready getting a group together to do it again.

  14. I just had the same decision to make, Booked just before Christmas, final payment was Dec. 31. I couldn't decide if I should wait to see if price dropped after final payment date. I went ahead and booked because didn't want to miss out on get a mini suite for balcony price special. A few days after I booked there was an OBC special that I was able to call and get added. Made final payment on the 31st,

Four weeks later room upgrade special is gone and mini suite price is $200 higher. Price may still drop as we get closer but I am ok with it.

  15. One room will work out, it will be tight but the balcony will make it seem like you have more room. Having everyone take a little extra time each day to keep things tidy will keep the stress to a minimum. We have always sailed the four of us in one room. There are times we can get crabby but is a sign that everyone needs a nap or "what the heck are we doing in the room, lets get out of here." Husband will sometimes shower at the gym to open up space for the rest of us.

We have always consisdered getting one balcony and inside room but so far haven't done it.

  16. I am actually debating this right now. Decided this week to bookon a cruise this March. The final payment date is December 31, like one week after I put down deposit. Right now was able to get mini fior price of balcony. I can't decide if at this point I should just wait to see what happens to price after final payment date or keep my mini and be happy. I have looked at prices for cruise in Feb whose final payment date has all ready passed. Their prices really haven't dropped. So far keeping my mini!
