  1. Thanks for all of the great info. Just applied for the Barclay card, got approved and am dumping my southwest card. $2 for every dollar spent is to good to pass up. We use credit card for everything! I woke my husband up at 5 in the morning to tell him I was switching credit cards, lol.

  2. I am a NCL girl myself who recently booked carnival again after a long lay off. Early Saver was really the only option I was given. I really just thought when you book a certain number of months out that is what they call the price.

What do they call non early saver and where does it show up on the booking page? And why does a guarantee cabin show up as so much money? A inside was $400 something and the inside guarantee was $1500. I couldn't figure out why anyone would book a guarantee cabin for that price. Is it so Early Saver looks like the only option or something?

Maybe I had two choices Early saver and" let carnival pick your cabin" with the price looking so high no one would ever do it.

  3. This is from the OP's post above:

Offer is for one promotional gift card for every qualifying card purchased and not for total order.

It says limit 5 per person, per day. So if I want two $500 ones then you make two separate purchases?

I emailed my TA and she called Carnival to confirm for me that I can use the gift cards to pay off my cruise with her.

  4. I have a couple questions too.

    1. My TA said she will accept Carnival gift cards. Want to be sure these will work for that before purchasing. Or do you have to use at Carnival.com?

    2. My final payment date is on Dec 7th, Is the egift card sent right away. It says they will do it on Dec. 1st when they are back in the office after the holiday.

    3. How do you then add the balance of an egift card to your account on the ship?

I was burned a few weeks ago with a carnival gift certificate which is different than a gift card so just want all the facts before I purchase. :)

  5. I used credit card points to get a $1000 cruise certificate for Carnival. I read and reread every bit of the fine print that I could before using over 100,000 points to get it. ( we have a lot of points, lol. ) Anyway, I had all ready put a deposit down on a cruise and was going to use what I thought was a carnival gift card to pay off the balance. The fine print said it couldn't be used for a deposit so I went ahead and did that before the "gift cards" arrived. When it arrived in the mail, lo and behold it wasn't really gift cards. I had ordered gift cards through the website many times in the past and the fine print gave no indication that it was going to be anything different than that.

So.... I wasn't going to be able to use it in the way I intended and it also showed an issued date in 3/2013 which meant I now had only 90 days to use it or lose with no refunds!! OMG!! I was so mad. I called and complained that I just booked a cruise and there was no way I could book another one that quickly and why did I get a year and a half old certificate anyway with only 90 days left before it expired? Plus, no where on the website did it describe those restrictions.

In the end they made an exception and let me mail the certificate back and refunded my points. I kept my cool during our discussion which is maybe why they were willing to work with me. So alls well that ends well but I was sick about it for awhile.

Long story short if you are buying what they describe as a "cruise certificate" you have to book through the number provided and can't use it indiscriminately as you would a gift card. I booked through a TA and she had assured me she would accept Carnival gift cards. If you all ready have a cruise booked they will be worthless to you. There was no fine print at all on the website that stated that.

Also if I had been given 2 years to use it, it would not have been a problem either. The way they worked the dates was not right.

My husband would have been pissed if I lost all those points ha. And what was supposed to be a "free" cruise that my 17 year old daughter were taking together I now am paying for but oh well.

  6. Ever since my first NCL cruise, I never looked back - NCL FreeStyle all the way. However, I am now booked back on CCL- cruise was picked by someone else. I am torn on what to do about dining. You would think it would be easy to just pick ATD but we have a large group so am afraid the wait will be long for 7 people? Early seating is just too early so we are scheduled in late seating right now. Contemplating switching to ATD.

What to do, what to do? I don't like the idea of being tied to a set dining time but figured the shows are timed around the set meal times. I will probably go back and forth all the way until March.

  7. We took the water taxi to Caye Caulker in March. Tw water taxi pier is right next door to where the tender docks. You can walk. No need for a taxi. It was a long ride to get there. I just made sure to have a book. Google Caye Caulker split. It really isn't a beach in that area more like a dock you hang out on. You climb down a ladder to get in the water or jump off. You can swim across the split and there is a sandy beach over on the other side. The water is beautiful, there is a beach bar right there. Most of the people hanging out also had cruise ship beach towels haha. It was a fun adventuresome day to go off like that on out own. We would do it again.

  8. I just checked out prices after reading this thread. Looks like $140 cheaper between both rooms. I emailed my booking agent to try to adjust for us. I haven't cruised carnival in over 10 years so not sure how this works. What are the reasons it may be turned down? Do they give it to you in onboard credit or what?

Waiting to see what they say. I booked 2 weeks ago and have a December final payment date.

  9. Am trying to plan what will be my fourth trip to Belize. Have done cave tubing, ruins, and water taxi to Caye Caulker. Every single time I try to decide what to do I see the "beach excursions" and wonder why I haven't done a beach because I am all about the beach. Then I read the reviews, remember why and then find something else to do.

I really enjoyed Caye Caulker and have no problem doing that again. ( on another note my husband was less than thrilled with the water taxi and has no desire to repeat the experience, lol. I just read a book and the time passed quickly for me)

DH will not be with me on this next trip so I could do Caye Caulker again but am hoping to do something new. The pictures of what we "think" is Starfish island excursion look ok. But if it is Bannister island, it didn't get such great reviews either. Except for Mistgirly, she liked bannister island. ;)

Anyway, hope someone comes back and posts after doing this excursion. I don't ususally book ship excursions but the perk of being picked up and dropped off at the ship and avoiding that long tender again sounds pretty good at this point.

  10. The beach at west bay is wonderful. Have been there twice with a third trip planned. Are you hiring a driver ie Victor or rony ? Would recommend it. They will be able to find the perfect spot for you and after an hour or two take you to another great spot. You can hire a snorkel boat to take you further out away from the people for not much money. The far end of the beach (tabyana) is more crowded. I avoid that end.

Hope you end up loving Roatan at first sight as I did.

  11. Did anyone have any trouble getting out of the garage at cruise end? We prepaid on line and when my husband tried to get out of the garage the gate wouldn't open for him I don't remember all the particulars but I think we were supposed to get our ticket stamped or something on the day we arrived? I vaguely remember someone else having this difficulty when they tried to leave.

This happened to us March 2014, am going again March 2015 without husband this time so want to know what I am supposed to do when I arrive. I know I have 6 months to figure out but can't plan to far ahead, lol.

  12. For $25 dollars a person you can get your own private driver to take you anywhere you want to go. No cramming into a packed tour bus for $40 through the cruise line. And no waiting for late or slow people. Get away from the port and experience the island! Have used Boddon twice and plan to again in March.

  13. Just got off the Jewel on Sunday. We only ate only in the Aft dining room. I did see men in jeans in there. Husband wore Khakis. One night I noticed he still had his leather sandels on and I told him he probably wouldn't be let in. Nope, no one said a word.

I alternated between two pairs of pants 1 white, 1 black and about 3 tops. i usually had a jacket on as I get cold. I am certain no one paid a bit of attention that I wore something twice. Alternated between two pairs of dressy flip flop and wedge sandals. Easy peasy.

  14. We are back. Used West Bay divers. Girls had a great experience. They dove the Blue Channel. Saw two huge spotted rays, lobster, sea turtle too much more to name. Husband and I snorkeled and were able to watch as they came closer to where we were to meet the dive boat.

Everything went well. Thanks for the tip.
