  1. Thanks for the Bistro photos Amy, it looks delicious. I agree that those 2 hour dinners are sometimes too long after a long day of tours.
  2. We would like to rent an Airbnb for a few nights in the Lakes area before our cruise embarking in Venice. Would we need a car rental to shop and sightsee? Where is the train station that would get us to Venice? Thanks !!!
  3. Are there any significant differences in the passenger demographics (%Americans, age, dinner formality, etc) between the Danube cruise lines?
  4. Our first river cruise and we loved it. We took the Rudesheim hike last June on this cruise. It's downhill, but you still need to be in fairly good shape as it is 5 miles and is on gravel paths. Tour guide was okay, but we had some nice views. When you finish you will have time for a few beers and a late lunch in Rudesheim. We also took the Black Forest optional tour which we liked very much. Includes lunch and visit to the Vogtsbauernhof (farmer village), and the cukoo clock museum/store. Very nice scenery and some quaint towns along the way. About 6 hours. Tour guide was good but talked all the way back when everyone wanted to nap.
  5. Do the other river cruise lines (ama waterways, Viking, Crystal, etc) also offer 2 and 4 tops? Our only river cruise has been on Uniworld and I believe it was mostly 6 and 8 tops. We just prefer the smaller tables as it is sometimes hard to hear at large tables.
  6. I would think most would do the main dining room if it has the better food. I have another question; what is the seating in the main dining room, tables for 2,4,6 or 8? We wouldn’t be going with a group, so just seat ourselves?
  7. I was hoping for May and a little warmer weather 🙂
  8. What is Avalon’s flexible dining? Do they have 2 seatings or a separate dining room with a different time?
  9. We would like to take a Spring cruise. What month(s) are most likely to have acceptable water levels for cruising on the Danube?
  10. Some cruises (dis)embark from Budapest and some Vienna. Which city is better for a pre/post extension? We mostly like to walk/bike the city, and enjoy architecture, parks, and outdoor cafes, etc. Good choice of airbnb rentals or small hotels would be preferable. TIA
  11. Thanks dogs4fun. A 3 night Viking extension would be about $1,600 for both of us, including breakfast, 1 tour and transfers. Possibly could do 4 or 5 nights on our own for same $$? Would transferring to the ship in Passau be a problem?
  12. Thanks msufan. Can you fly to Prague?
  13. Uniworld offers a 10 day Danube and Prague itinerary. Is there any other cruise line that includes Prague in it's Danube cruise itinerary? TIA
