  1. This is a timely posting for me.  My sister gets the results of tests this afternoon.  I pray that they will be good but if not, I must be with her, as she is a childless widow in a distant town.  We have fully paid B2Bs next month on the Silhouette.  I doubt they would allow a transfer even for two Elite+ customers.  But we also have an Oceania booked in March 2019 and a seven day Edge in April.  Other booked cruises are so distant that they pose no problem.  I feel selfish for worrying about cruises when my dear sister's health is in question, but I can't help being concerned.

  2. Many, if not most, of the Edge cruises are seriously overpriced. And they are overpriced for an average person or a billionaire. The only difference is that the billionaire can squander his money without having to worry about where his next meal is coming from. But he's still paying for an overpriced product. Personally, I have reached a certain age where if I'm going to do something, I'd better do it now because my tomorrows might be limited. And I thank God everyday for my ability to pay on occasion, at least, for an overpriced product.   I'll  be anxiously awaiting the initial reviews from people whose opinion I have come to trust over the years, and our first 7 night cruise will surely give us the experience to determine whether there will be a second Cruise on the Edge.

  3. This might be a case where everybody is right:  yes, prices are ridiculously high and yes, in a free society (?), people should be allowed to squander their earnings as they see fit.  We'll take a week's cruise in April for $300 a night p/p with a perk and $150 OBC for an E1.  If we like it, we have another E1 on the November 2019 TA for $3500 total with $500 OBC.  So we're hedging our bets on a new ship we might not care for.  After 27 X cruises over the years, I think we are about to part company but not because of the Edge.

  4. People will say it's not a problem, and in the general scheme of things, it isn't a problem.  But it does involve packing everything except the hanging items.  To me, that' s a pain, but an unavoidable one.  On December 9 we'll move two cabins down the passageway only because some selfish person did not have the decency to cancel his cruise so we could remain in our first cruise's cabin.  OTH we're not disembarking on December ninth, we'll be taking an even longer cruise, so moving  is a small price to pay.

  5. We love Indian food and it better be well seasoned.  Love the exotic spices and  flavors, but we passed on the one night special dinner while on the Equinox in September.  $49 and we couldn't apply it against our five night dining package.  We have access to excellent Indian restaurants in our home town and the Indian fare on the buffet is adequate for our needs.

    crystal even better

So you threw away $1500.   I don't think I would have done that.  In fact my wife won a $1000 coupon on an X cruise and we are struggling to find a use for it, as we have discovered Regent and would prefer that line.  We'll try Oceania next March but we still can't bear to chuck $1000.  We had an absolutely terrible and disgusting problem with Princess years ago, but when the right itinerary presented itself, back on Princess we went.

What did Celebrity do to warrant you're anger, if you don't mind my asking.

  7. Dolebludger,

I am 6'5" and well into my 70s, so I share your concerns with air travel.  For  years I would travel from home in Virginia to our vacation place in Naples, FL,  almost always in coach.  Very doable as the flights were not terribly long and there was a break in Atlanta.  Now the thought of flying to Europe in coach is enough to keep me on my porch.  You are correct in saying Regent's air adjustments are skimpy, but as I previously noted, there is more than one way to skin a cat.  We are booked on the Edge TA next November, far too early to worry about airfare.  If it means flying over days early in order to have a premium seat, that's a price I'm willing to pay.  Better a hotel in Italy than a coach seat overnight.

Can you provide us a ship and date, so we can compare?

    Thanks

I don't mean to be cute, but I am not going to say anymore on this subject, because I don't want to create a rush that will make it more difficult for us to get a cabin.  :classic_biggrin:

I don't understand this post. We have been frequent Regent cruisers since 2002. The total cost for Regent cruises today is about $1000 per day per person. And for that price, you get a room as small as 216 sq. ft plus balcony. Want a larger room? It gets much more expensive. But if anybody knows of a Regent cruise for less than $300 per day per person, let me know and I will book it now! But neither I nor my TA believes it exists.

Truly, this comes as a surprise.  I would suggest a new TA.  I just checked and there are Regent cruises at very excellent prices to be had.  Not on every cruise, mind you, but on certain ones and we are not that picky if we can get on a Regent ship.  I am talking about prices open to everyone, not just military.  No airfare is included, of course.  Maybe I should keep my mouth shut:classic_laugh:

We were on Reflection in March and were surprised how casual it was compared to our previous couple of European cruises. Better half’s suit and one of my ‘posh frocks’ seemed too ‘unCaribbean’ casual! We ended up taking them but never using them. On our last cruise in the Med last month still a couple of full formal dressed guests, a few suits but most just dressed on chic nights as they would for a dinner in a nice restaurant.

Can’t see my better half taking a suit on a cruise again.

I'm with your husband;  I'll never take a tux or suit on a cruise again, but for some a sports jacket or blazer is now too much to handle?  It doesn't even have to be packed;  I'll wear it on the plane and in chilly weather, it is a bonus.  If my wife dresses well, as she always does, I certainly am  going to be sure I look as if I belong with her.

  11. Are you sure Celebrity would let you upgrade without penalty? When we were in a similar position to yours, the only way we could upgrade was to cancel and rebook. That would have cost us $900 so we were happy to stay put in our very good cabin

  12. Less than $300 a day per person on the Regent (with the same perks as Celebrity) is a great price IMO. I have never been able to find that kind of deal, but I will keep looking.

Maybe it's just a question of the new math, but I don't want you to go crazy looking for a Holy Grail that doesn't exist. Regent was well over $300 per person a day
