At no additional charge?
Not a penny more. Believe me, it was a complete surprise
Over the years both celebrity and princess have been extremely good to us when it came to guarantee cabin assignments and and move ups Cunard, too, for that matter.
-
No. In my experience it depends on when the price drop occurs; in the US after final payment you can’t get a price drop but can upgrade to a higher category cabin if it costs more than you have paid. That amount could be $5 more could be much more.
Unfortunately, that's not always true either as I found out several days ago. We were willing to pay $700+ more but we're told our additional booking was part of a package deal, and that didn't allow us to upgrade and keep our perk. That killed the deal . We would have left a wonderful A1 cabin which I'm sure celebrity would not have had any trouble booking. Fortunately, we are extremely happy with the status quo but sure would have liked to move up to a suite.
-
If there are cabins still available a few days before the cruise, does anyone get upgraded for no additional cost? If so, do they contact you directly? Sorry if that is a silly question, but I’m not familiar with upgrades.
It happened to us last year. A nice upgrade to a CS and we didn't learn about it until we were at the check-in counter.

Let's hope the port side window washer will reside to one side of any balconies.
Maybe there will be no port side window washing equipment as another celebrity cost-saving measure takes effect;)
-
As long as there is no window washing equipment directly in front of our cabin, we'll be happy

The waiter was just trying his best to please someone and it is wonderful that he remembered what that person enjoyed the night before. This is service at its best and one reason we love cruising. How can anyone take this as to have "a waiter foist and undesired item" on you? Foist is a very harsh word to use. We are talking about a piece of watermelon and only wasted if not eaten. Not sure I would enjoy having a dinner with someone this offended.
This has gotten to the point of ridiculous. Can we agree that you like having unordered items delivered to your table, while I define good service as paying attention to what I want, not what the waiter wants. As far as eating together, I assure you that will never happen, so don't worry about it.;);););)

I don't see the window washer in this shot. It looks like you will have a nice view from your cabin and are about halfway between the pool deck and food and entertainment decks.
8193 also looks like it has a nice view with a firewall on one side (maybe quieter). You are nicely in the center of the ship. Hope you will enjoy your infinite verandas! :D
We appreciate very much your very rapid response Thank you for taking the time and making the effort.

Probably more than 3/4s of the world could not afford that cruise. Those staff members work their butts off to please that one person who would find it presumptuous to try to please someone by remembering to give watermelon? I want that staff whom I will say Thank you to and tip well
Since when is it good service to have a waiter foist an undesired item on a customer? He could have pleased me by honoring my desire and request not to have dessert. Better yet, he wouldn't have had to work his butt off fetching something I did want, did not request, and probably wouldn't have eaten. I don't like to be told what is good for me, not at my age. And it's a waste of food to boot. :)

[quote name=.
- One night I said I preferred water melon to their dessert, and the following night even though I said I did not want dessert, water melon showed up in front of me
.[/quote]
I hope you enjoyed the watermelon, but the waiter would not get extra credit from me. When I say "No, thanks" I mean it and would find it presumptuous on his part to ignore my request.

We are booked on two cruises in E1s.. I have not seen a recent picture of the forward port side of the ship where our cabin #9117 lies, but the older one I did see did not have the washing equipment so clearly evident on the starboard side. This seems strange. We are also in #8193 on a second cruise. If you have a chance, I sure would appreciate seeing what we're getting. I believe both have the beds at the bath and that probably is the most important thing. Thanks.

We were also on this cruise and I noticed immediately when the ship stopped moving, even before the lights went out. What made me uncomfortable is that no one explained the reason for the outage. In fact, when specifically asked about it at the Officers' Q&A on the last day at sea, the Chief Engineer just brushed off the whole incident by saying Celebrity turned out the lights to make the cruise "more romantic"...at 8:00 am! The Cruise Director immediately asked for the next question and no further mention was made.
I know at this point it doesn't matter, but there was something more to this than meets the eye. DW was at this meeting and reported that the Captain started to respond to the question but was cut off by the Chief Engineer and his silly response.

I have done MDR, Luminae and Blu. We love Luminae and Blu. Aqua class is now our minimum stateroom booking. The service in Blu is unsurpassed. If Aqua is too expensive on a cruise, we just do not book that cruise. Nothing wrong with MDR and we enjoyed MDR but after being spoilt by Blu, there is no going back.
Here again experiences can be markedly different. Twice we have walked out of Blu because our waiter disappeared and we tired of waiting. And on our last cruise on the Equinox the food was great wherever we ate. We weren't in a suite, so we couldn't eat in Luminae and I am thankful for that. Several times I checked the menu there and found it to be very ordinary. The most tempting things I recall were appetizers of octopus and sweetbreads. That's the type offering I would expect o see regularly, not grilled food I can do at home without the fancy names.

Well, which sea state 5 are you referring to? Beaufort 5 is only 2 meter seas, Douglas 5 is 2.5-4 meter, which is still only mid-range on the scale, and not extremely rough. But, the propulsion was out a total of 20 minutes according to the OP's posts. In that time, the ship would likely have turned broadside to the wind and seas, and started rolling. This rolling would have been uncomfortable, but hardly life threatening.
OK. Thank you but my question really was to inquire about a cruise ship being dead in the water in extreme seas, regardless of the sea state number

We were on the same cruise and had a wonderful time. Just a very relaxing voyage. If food is subjective, so is music and entertainment in general. That was the weak point for us. And I have to note that it was an extremely noisy ship as everywhere we went music, if it can be called that, was blaring at extremely high volume. In the martini bar one night it was impossible to have a conversation and when I asked the DJ if he could at least turn the sound down a couple of notches, he smiled and that was it. But that was the only negative we encountered on the ship. I was amazed at the variety of Cuisine and its quality in the buffet. The executive chef is to be commended I believe he was an Italian by the name of Capello. Tante grazie, signore

I have to wonder if there is actually any vodka in the Bloody Marys but it is nice to have a sparkling wine, mimosa, or a bellini to start the day. Then I usuallywander either to blu, Luminae, or the buffet to complete a real breakfast, at which point it is almost time to repeat the process for lunch in the main dining room, the buffet, or by getting a hot dog at the grill or maybe all three
-
If the price is right a four day cruise in Aqua would be the ideal way to sample Blu.
So much depends on the skill of the chefs on board the ship and how they match up with your taste. The food on a recent Equinox Cruise was outstanding in every venue from the buffet to the MDR to Murano and Tuscan Grille. That was not the case on our May cruise on the Summit. I definitely recommend Aqua just so you can see for yourself and get some idea whether you would want to repeat in the future
-
The sea was like a lake when all this happened. I doubt anyone was really concerned about the outage. But what would have happened if we were in sea state 5 in the middle of the Atlantic?
This was about our eightieth cruise and the first time this had happened, so I think the odds are in our favor

Uber from our hotel was supposed to be $18. Somehow the driver took a wrong turn at the cruise port. We found out hours later that the tab was $29 Had I known this while still in the car, I would have raised the issue. And to think I tipped him on top of it.
-
Seven days in May on the Summit and the food was mostly mediocre. Just off the Equinox three days ago and the food was excellent.
Otherwise the Summit was OK but nothing special

I am not sure who started the Captain on the gangway upon exiting but it is a great way to end a cruise. Captain Alex also did it last month on the Millennium.
That's an easy one. Captain Merrill Stubing started it back in the 1970s. I wish Captain McCue had come clean and told us why the Equinox was dead in the water for at least twenty minutes on this cruise. A senior officer told a fellow passenger it was an equipment failure, but if so, why the secrecy? It left me to thing it was human failure. Thankfully, the sea was calm and no further problem occurred.
Incidentally, the food is great on the Equinox. We frequenty ate in specialty restaurants but had I known how good the MDR is, we could have saved a bundle. The Summit's chef could use a lesson from the executive chef on the Equinox
Great staff, great cruise.

Will they be able to gaze down... yes. But does that matter...no. Are the SV cabins fantastic.... yes.
The view from above down to the SV cabins is possible but when I’ve been on my SV verandah I’ve never noticed it
Thanks, but you and I don't think like my wife.:D:rolleyes:
-
I am interested in booking one, as the S1 prices are so ridiculously high. My wife is concerned about privacy. Will people above us be able to gaze down on us. If so, is there a particular cabin (s) which might be more private? Thanks
-
You can still wash your hands though, just air dry them if there are no towels. I wash my hands and make my husband do it. Stops us getting sick!

I'm with you. No excuse not to wash hands...ever but especially on a ship

I just picked up the newest brochure which has a list of all the partially obstructed views on the Edge. Has this been posted before? I don't want to be repetitive, but I wouldn't mind providing the list if no one else has to date
