  1. We have done the Canada/New England cruise 3 times on 3 different cruise lines (Cunard, Princess and NCL). We have sailed early September, late September and late October. We found that it was too cold for us when we cruised on the last sailing in late October and would not sail again at that time. The temperature is milder in September, and are considering sailing on the Summit next September. We live in New Jersey, so we see plenty of fall foliage, so cruising for that reason isn't that important to us.

  2. We booked a guarantee cabin about 2 weeks ago. I have since registered on the Celebrity website - passport info, contact info, etc. Where should I look on the Celebrity website to find the actual cabin number, once Celebrity has assigned it to me? The cruise departs on January 2, 2015. Also, for those who have booked guarantee cabins, how long does it take for Celebrity to assign the cabin?

  3. We just sailed on the Eclipse in the Caribbean and had our 1st balcony. We have taken around 30 cruises and have booked mostly inside cabins and a few ocean view. We hardly sat on the balcony, but did enjoy the outside light in the cabin during the day. The ocean view cabin will also give you light, without the extra cost of the balcony. We would not pay big bucks for sitting outside a few times during the cruise.

  4. We sailed on the Eclipse from January 11 - 25. One afternoon my husband went to the cabin to watch the football game at 4:30 p.m. He ordered room service - a hamburger and a hot dog - and there was no charge. I looked at the room service menu in the binder and noticed that it was more limited and there was an extra charge for some items. I was disappointed that tuna fish sandwiches were no longer on the room service menu.

  5. We take along a package of Bonine, just in case. We have not been able to get sickness pills from guest relations, probably because they would rather sell it to you in the ship's store. We have taken 1/2 of pill if the seas feel rough, and then follow it with the other half if rough seas continue. My DH and I find that the pills (even 1/2) make us tired despite the declaration of "causes less drowsiness" on the package. My DH is a big guy, and he found that if he has an alcoholic beverage while taking Bonine, he becomes extremely tired and has to go to bed. Therefore, if he takes Bonine, he won't drink alcohol.

By the way, Costco sells bottles of the generic drug, meclizine, for very little money. I don't recall the exact cost, but it was something like a few hundred pills for less than $10.

  6. The lobster tails on the Infiniti in September 2013 were good size and sweet - the best we have had on a cruise in a while. The ship departed from Harwich, UK. Also like the veal chop. The beef - prime rib and steak in the MDR - are tender and tasty.

  7. Unless you want to spend time in Miami and/or South Beach before or after the cruise, we find Fort Lauderdale airport and its close proximity to the port to be more convenient. The taxi ride from Fort Lauderdale airport to the cruise terminal is about 10 - 15 minutes, with a fare of about $20. Therefore, we would sail on the Silhouette, a sister ship of the Reflection.

  8. We just attained Elite status. This has to do with how many cruises you have taken. We usually sail in inside cabins, but we are able to get various benefits because of our cruise loyalty. When you are out of your cabin, no one knows if you are sailing in a suite or inside cabin, or somewhere in between. You will be treated with respect if you treat others with respect. We have enjoyed sailing on Celebrity because of their superior service, food, ambiance, and the beautiful ships. Enjoy yourselves.

  9. We were on the Infiniti in September 2013 - wine cruise out of Harwich, England. We also enjoyed seeing the flash mob. Most of the participants were from the U.K. They were a fun loving group.

  10. We just became Elite after our last cruise. We feel that the Elite benefits are what has kept us loyal to Celebrity. We take cruises of 10 to 14 nights and will definitely use the free laundry coupons, dry cleaning, free drinks and free internet minutes. These benefits add a lot of value to our cruise. We have sailed on Cunard and Princess a number of times, but hesitate to sail on them again because will enjoy the Elite benefits. We have also not cruised on Holland America because we would miss Elite benefits, and we would be starting at zero on a new line.

  11. Has anyone sailed on a ship just before it goes intro drydock? Were there any problems? We are contemplating sailing on the Century from January 20 - February 4. February 4th is the day the Century goes into drydock for a week.

We sailed on the Century in October 2012, and felt that the cabins, in particular, were badly needing new mattresses, carpeting, etc. If you have been on the Century recently, did it look like the carpeting and beds have been replaced?

    Thanks.

  12. We are looking at some back to back cruises in the Caribbean in January or February on Celebrity. Does Celebrity give an extra discount for the second part of the back to back cruises? Some back to back are 7 nights each cruise, and others alternate between 10 and 11 night cruises. If you have done them, please give us good and bad points for doing so. We live in New Jersey and want to spend as much time as possible in the warm weather in Florida and the Caribben. We are retired so time isn't as issue.

    Thanks.

  13. We will be sailing in the Infinity, leaving Harwich on September 18, 2013. We arrive at Heathrow Airport on September 15 and will stay at a downtown hotel for a few days. We are travelling with another couple. Is there a good bus service that we can take from downtown London to the Harwich port on the morning of September 18? We would also consider a van that can fit four passengers plus a lot of luggage. We do not wish to take a train, as we had a bad experience on a prior cruise (involving a transit strike and carrying heavy bags up and down steps at various stations.)

    Thanks for your recommendations.

  14. We sailed in an inside Cabin on the Solstice on January 29. We loved the cruise, however, there is not enough storage space for clothes, shoes, etc. The storage areas over the bed are big, but inconvenient. There was a big area to one side of the bed that was empty. Drawers could be added to this space. The 3 narrow shelves that are in place of night tables are a joke. We did move the phone to the second shelf so that my husband could put his CPAP machine on the top shelf. Regarding a night light, we sleep with the television on all night, so there was no problem finding our way to the bathroom. We liked the nightlight feature of the bathroom light. I find it hard to believe that women designed the cabin with such minimal storage space (other than for toiletries in the bathroom).

  15. I hope that the Holiday Inn has improved since we stayed there in 2006 prior to our British Isles cruise. We have stayed at some Holiday Inn's in the U.S. and they are usually OK, however we much prefer Marriott and Hilton Hotels. We paid over U.S. $225.00 for one night at the Southhampton Holiday Inn, which was slightly less than we paid for a beautiful room at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in London, which also included a delicious breakfast (Renaissance is Marriott's upscale hotel). I would rate the Southhampton Holiday Inn less than 2 stars. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

  16. We cruised from San Juan in January 2009. Once you get your checked luggage, there is a well organized taxi stand outside. Wait in a line and the dispatcher will get you a cab. The total for 2 people with 4 pieces of luggage was approximately $25.00. My husband and I had our own cab, but there were also vans for larger groups - don't know what they charged for that. The ride from the airport to the port is about 20 minutes. We also easily found a cab to take us back to the airport when we finished our cruise. I think that the cab is cheaper than Celebrity's transfers, plus you can go and come when you are ready without waiting for a bus to fill up with passengers.
