  1. Yes, it is acceptable and there are more people dressed in that fashion then in suits or tux. You're on vacation so wear what you feel is most comfortable for you. There are some folks on this site who wish the old days of cruise attire were still upon us but they're not and the rules have been bent to keep up with the wishes of the consumers. Enjoy!

  2. We just returned from an 8 day adventure on the Conquest where we ate breakfast every morning. The menu is different with

sea day brunch menu vs. the regular menu. Both are excellent. The food is always hot and prepared to your specifications. It's

always our favorite meal time. If you're in a rush, request a table for 2. If you sit with others they wait till the table is full before taking your order which adds time. Enjoy the relaxation.......

  3. We too were on this cruise. It was our 14th Carnival Cruise. We were also disappointed with the changes but realize that they come with the cruising territory. The biggest disappointments were in Aruba where everything was closed and we were there from 10am-11pm. If staff had checked to see if it was a holiday in Aruba and the cards lined up right, it would have been better to go to

Curacao first and then Aruba after the holiday. In any event, we made the best of the changes as did the OP.

The person who stated the OP should have invoked the Carnival Guarantee is wrong in my opinion. First off, the first 2 days were sea days. So, after 24 hours they would have had to be dissatisfied with the first sea day....stayed on till day 3 in Aruba and flown home. Not realistic in that the problem or itinerary was known prior to boarding. Being disappointed is allowed. Many of us were. Stuff happens so I guess I'll start looking for my 15th booking cause cruising is our passion.

  4. We have 13 thus far all on Carnival and leave next week on #14. We enjoy what Carnival has to offer and started there because I didn't want to wear a sports jacket or get dressed up while on vacation. Being Platinum helps and we used to LOVE the extra OBC you got for booking a cruise while on a cruise. That's gone......Might try MSC since they have a loyalty match program.

  5. OP's opening line:

What is the dress code for the Steakhouse the first night??

Several of us respond and tell her slacks and people have been turned away for wearing shorts

Your response: BULLCRAP! Because you have seen different.

I think I can read just fine thank you!

I too told the OP to wear slacks if they arrive. I also said there was a 50-50 chance that it would be tolerated. On the first night in the MDR things are relaxed and tolerated that should not be. Experience is a very valid point to share with someone what is actually permitted. I really don't care what other folks wear to dinner as long that they are clean. The OP can take the information, analyze it and then proceed as they see fit. My main point was exceptions are made. The rule of slacks only is overlooked on the first night.

If your slacks don't arrive, you can give it a shot and if not permitted in eat elsewhere.

Guess what, sometimes you can get on a tender without first getting a sticker. Should a guest go get one prior to getting on the tender, yes but it isn't always enforced. I have now spent enough time on this bullcrap.

  6. I think the point here is what the dress code is, not what someone might have seen someone else possibly get away with (we all know that sometimes what is enforced is fluid).

It is best to provide an answer that corresponds with Carnival policy, and not tell someone that they can do something to the contrary. In some circumstances they might "get away with it," but I would personally not want to be the one that gave someone that bad advice - then they arrive and have to go through the situation (and possible embarrassment) of being told they had to change.

Then they suffer for the bad advice, and have to drudge back to the room to change.

Apparently, you need to READ what the OP asked and the response that I gave. I was not advocating that one should wear shorts and a t-shirt, I was advising what I had seen on previous cruises. I then suggested that if their luggage does arrive before their reservation, it would be better to change to slacks. If they choose to go in shorts on the first night because their SLACKS have not arrived, there is a possibility that it will be allowed.

I read and argue for a living.....Reading is key.

  7. You must have been on a first class Carnival Cruise. I was on the Vista and the Breeze where the exceptions were made. My suggestion to the OP would be to put on slacks if your luggage arrives prior to your reservation but I wouldn't cancel if they don't.

Apparently, each ship sets its own rules and exceptions.

  8. Don't forget to remind new cruisers of the "bathrobe parade" held at lunch time in the buffet area on the first sea day.

Grand prizes include a free 5 day cruise and payoff of your sail and sign card. Lots of fun! For blue card holders only!

  9. OP.....I'm Annoyed right along with you.....Yes, I am aware of the "rule" and yes it has happened to me but some things in life can just piss one off and this is one of those things. Can't do a thing about it and I hope you don't let it influence you in any other way but you go on and be annoyed. To each his own. Enjoy your cruise and get back the $50 OBC in other ways. Eat multiple plates for dinner. Eat lots of ice cream. Eat lots of pop corn. Double up on the chocolate celebration..... get a few decks of cards from guest services and a few extra pens........it'll make you feel better.....At some point you'll no longer be annoyed; like me.

  10. I'm 61 years old and Platinum. That and $1.00 won't get you much but after reading this thread I see some folks think we are in a caste system. I wore a shirt, tie and sports coat every day for 30 years. This included a variety of suits.

At my age, comfort is my goal. I wear very nice khaki shorts with a collared 4 button polo shirt on non elegant nights and I up-dress into khaki pants and a dress shirt on elegant nights. I brush my teeth and wear deodorant. I'm bald so I don't comb my hair. Funny thing for me; I've been on 13 cruises and not once did I have a meal spoiled due to something someone else was wearing.

  11. I just eat burritos with heavy beans the night before disembarking. I then stand in line with my luggage and let nature take it's course. Never have folks trying to get too close to me......

Obviously I'm kidding. This whole thread should be used when teaching second graders how to act. Let's act like adults and hope that those around do the same. Life is way too short to die from a heart attack from others behavior.......

  12. On the first seaday at noon, CCL has a robe parade in the buffet area of the Lido deck. Guests get to vote on the best robe competition and the winner gets a ship on a stick and priority tender boarding when returning from a port. Don't miss this opportunity to shine and have fun! Nothing like watching people in their robes strutting their stuff!

  13. My wife and I went on the Bahama's Booze Cruise many years ago on our honeymoon. We still talk about it to this day. The boat was PACKED! The staff went around and handed everyone a 4 oz plastic cup. Next, they came out with plastic milk containers full of red Bahama Rum Punch. They gave you all you could handle. My memory recalls the punch to be very sweet but wicked strong. By the time we headed back, most folks were drunk. People throwing up, and girls removing their tops. Folks were so drunk that the tips they were handing out were huge. That was 35 years ago and my wife will never let me hear the end of it. Of course, it was my idea.

Oh.....they provided a roast chicken lunch in a white foam container. Now I'm glad that the pieces of chicken were small because both of us had bad stomach's from the food. We didn't drink much in that I was in law enforcement and too afraid to let my guard down. Sooooo, go ahead and book it. If nothing else, it might be a day that you might remember for the rest of your life!
