  1. Just back from 25 days on Regal. Only saw two men dressed like grocery store clerks (shirt, tie, no jacket) in the dining room on formal nights, everybody else had on a tux, suit, or at least a sport coat. The dining room was only about 75% full on formal nights.

There were a lot of sport coats on casual nights.

  2. Do you have to be dressed formal on the formal night to get into mdr. I would like to eat in mdr might not want to dress formal?

Do what you want and don't worry about how it affects other people or what they may think of you; and just ignore the looks you will certainly get.

You will be in the minority, but who cares.

  3. OMG, Thrak posts he won't use the Belkin product with the surge protector because it is not safe and now someone wants one. At first I thought it was going to be for home or hotel use but no, it is clearly for the ship.

I think you misread this post, they are asking about the one without the surge protection.

But you are correct that some people just don't get it. There is one particular poster who more than anyone else should understand just how serious a fire at sea can be.

  4. I always bring a three outlet surge protector and have had no problems.

Spoken like a true anchor clanker.

  5. We booked a South America cruise...this will be our third one To SA and love it. The promos were so good, and was able to get suite 8003. We have cruised many times, and have had different experiences. Cost I will say did not mean a great trip.

This ship has mixed reviews, and although we are set to go, even have our airline tickets..would love some feedback.

We were on the Sun in April for the Tampa to Vancouver thru the Panama canal cruise. We had cabin 8003 and it was a nightmare. Leaks, sewer smells and filth. The suite had not been cleaned when we arrived. Food on the carpet, filthy bathroom with mold and other peoples things still in the shower. We had rough seas a couple days and the balcony door whistled and screamed for 2 days. No gasket around either door!! We had to have them come and put something down the leaky drain to stop the smell. It was so bad you could smell it from the hall. They finally started using bleach to clean all the mold and that helped. My husband was sick from it all. Worse cruise ever.

  6. Me too. We are on the Star for a repeat South America cruise. Suite 8003.

We were in suite 8004. When we first walked in there was a terrible odor coming from the bathroom, opened the shower door to find items from the previous people in the suite. There was black mold growing in the shower, there were food crumbs on the carpet, and the inside of glass door to balcony had apparently not been cleaned in a very long time. The cushions of the balcony loungers were in shreds and stained. During the next few days, we had leaks from the bathroom appearing on the carpet next to the bed. The steward said the leak was from the bath tub and that we had to be careful when using it. We explained that we had not used the tub because it was filthy. We came back to the room to find that they had caulked around the tub but had not done anything about the brown water coming from behind the shower stall. In 19 days I think the room was vacuumed once and that was only after the butler spread confetti around on my wife's birthday. The glass or the balcony was never cleaned the entire time. We found the our suite to be indicative of other areas on the ship. For example, we watched the same dirty glass and trash roll around on the floor of the observation lounge for at least three days. We never saw anybody cleaning in public spaces as you do on other ships.

They did try to correct things but only when they were pointed out to them and they kept giving us free bottles of wine, but that only goes so far. And before anybody asks, we did not ask for any compensation.

We did enjoy the specialty restaurants and breakfast and lunch in La Cucina and our concierge, Leah, was outstanding but I doubt if we will ever cruise on the Sun again.

We have not had these problems on any other NCL ships. I hope this is not an indication of the new direction in which NCL is going.

  7. I'm seeing something I haven't before and figured that perhaps others could explain.

We are a couple of weeks or so past final payment, prices dropped, a number of folks on our roll call got upgrades, balconies disappeared from inventory and prices for inside staterooms went up $50 or so but the remaining suites stayed at the same pricing. I figured they were getting close selling out insides and OVs. Since I'm hoping for an upsell call to a suite (have a great forward facing balcony) I have been keeping an eye on this. All of the sudden, three or four days ago, our cruise disappeared from the Norwegian website. However, that site that has fish in its name still shows insides, OVs, minis, and suites available.

Any idea what could be going on?

We are also booked on this cruise. Booked a balcony GTY and still waiting for room assignment.

Can you give a better hint about the site with fish in its name? My daughter and husband would like to book but every other site shows sold out.

  8. Would we need a visa if going straight to the ship from the airport on a Princess transfer?

From what I can find out, you will need one just to get through Russian immigration and customs before any contact with Princess. Princess has a visa service through the personalizer, about $200+ per person. You may want to call Princess and see if they give you a different answer.
