And 100% of passengers have zero control of whether or not they get back to the ship on time, whether it’s booked through the cruise line or independently. Anything can happen from a vehicle breakdown to extreme inclement weather. Once the passenger steps off of the ship, everything is outside of their control.

All they had to do in order to be in control was to book a ship sponsored excursion. Then they'd be guaranteed that the ship would wait for them as long as possible, and that NCL would take care of all the arrangements should the ship have to leave them.

quick question....  if one was to fall off and it was a witnessed event.

approx how long does it take to  1. either stop the ship and turn around   2. launch a rescue/crew vehicle.

my heart broke for that teenager who jumped on a dare but he was lost immediately?

Cameron Robbins jumped from a party boat, not a cruise ship. Reportedly it wasn't even under way at the time. He disappeared while in view, probably from a rip current pulling him under. Lots of rumors he was taken by a shark, but there wasn't any screaming or blood in the water.

still perplexed as to why ships won't go the vaccine route instead the hoops of the test cruises. who knows.

Because they want to continue cruising out of Florida. They can’t do that if they force vaccines as a condition of travel, per Governor DeSantis.

That's interesting, although this seems like overkill:

"constant screenings for high temperatures among passengers—prior to embarkation, upon returning to the ship from a port of call, before meals, before all activities in public venues, and prior to disembarkation"

They also mention having rapid testing available, but don't say if they would require testing before boarding the ship.

Can you imagine being left behind on some island, because you got sunburned on the beach? 😳

We're using a device at work that's like a mounted ipad. You look at it and the camera detects your temperature. It makes some people feel better but It's not a substitute for a covid19 test.

A COVID-19 test is only useful in the moment. A person who tests negative at embarkation could test positive the next day. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you!! I wasn't waiting I called the doctor's office an got an appointment for next week! She said that we had to go in so she could try to talk us out of it!!! Fat chance!!!!

However, she did seem to know what I was talking about when I said fit to cruise statement.

    Thanks again

More likely you have to go in so she can bill your insurance for an office visit PLUS the fee for the letter (our doctor charges $25 for filling out forms like that).

Appears as though the cruise lines have now eliminated a large part of their base.  I hope they are prepared to have a lot of extra capacity that will be sailing empty meaning of course lost revenue.  We who are over 70 will gladly take our money and use it for travel in other areas.

As for turning pax away at the terminal, I predict that a lot of lawyers are about to get a lot of business.

If my whole family was denied boarding because my toddler had a teething fever, darn skippy I’d be looking for someone to sue! 😤

Just a guess on my part but PCL will probably want the doctors letter in their hands at least 5 days prior to boarding. If they are unable to verify information the passenger will be denied boarding. They will put the blame / responsibility onto the customer. In other words "If you do not provide verifiable information within our guide lines you will be denied boarding without compensation".

Ah, I thought they were expecting the letters to be presented at boarding with the rest of ones cruise documents. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just talked to my neighbor who is a Cardiologist.  He said he would not sign for any patient under his care without complete testing which would run many thousands of dollars.  Said there is no way to know how a individual would react to the virus including those under 70.  He said and I quote " they are just trying to cover their butt"

The cruise lines want to shift liability, and no physician in their right mind would willingly take on the risk.

But if passengers were to do a bit of creative writing, would there really be time at boarding for desk clerks to verify letters? 😉

And if you could, what good would that do? By now the virus is active very  in Italy too, so you're going to have to avoid Italians as well as Asians and what about that nice blue eyed blond American who just happened to be vacationing in Wuhan when the virus became active?

This virus might have started in China but Asians are not the only ones who can be infected or can pass it on.

Yes, that was my point. People who think they can avoid the virus by avoiding the geographic area where it started have a false sense of security.

I checked my weight gain this morning after 6 days of not counting calories but trying to make keto friendly choices (and choosing not to do so on Day 4 of the cruise). I gained 5.3 lbs.  Not as bad as I planned for, but not as good as I hoped for.  The good news is I anticipate dropping those pounds in as little as 2 weeks now that I'm back to strict keto (20g or less carbs per day) and counting calories (1200-1300 a day).

My ketones are starting to rebound also.  Back up to 0.9 this morning after eating strict keto yesterday.  I'm hoping to be back in my goal range of 1.5-2.5 in the next couple days.

I'm satisfied with the results of my intentional eating decisions during this cruise.  I'm satisfied with the balance I chose.

I'll check back one more time, when I'm back in ketosis.

I'm also happy to answer questions about the cruise, the ship, etc.

    Happy sailing. 😊

Technically most of what you gained was likely retained water, not actual weight. You have to consume roughly 3500 calories more than you burn, to gain a pound. I seriously doubt you consumed an excess 17,000+ calories on this trip! 😳

it’s probably more down to his physical appearance and demeanour than specifically tied to his age. He looks elderly in the photos, my mother is into her 70s and looks a heck of a lot younger than him. As a general rule I’d say more Caucasian Americans look significantly older than their calendar age compared to their Northern Europeans counterparts. I say that as someone with lots of friends and relatives from the states and having traveled there a lot!  I and most of my cousins regularly get our ages underestimated by a decade or more. I was still getting asked for ID in my 30s (drinking age in Ireland is 18) it even happened stateside much to the amusement of my work colleagues.

I’m a 57 year old “Caucasian American”. My picture is current. Call me elderly, I’m gonna beat you with my cane! 🤣
