  1. We are cruising this weekend, so I just filled out all of our cruise registration paperwork. When inputting the info for each passport on the Carnival site, I got a pop-up box that said "Passport must be valid for the length of the cruise."

So, yes, you will have an issue with that passport, according to the Carnival site.

The OP stated that the passport in question expires on the last day of their cruise. Presumably, the passport is good until midnight, and they'll be disembarked in the morning. Where's the problem?
  2. Even if you don't cancel the person cruising, get the Cheers! refunded now. It can't be canceled on the day of sailing (as far as what the Carnival website says).
Pretty sure the only way to get the Cheers package refunded is to also cancel the person in the cabin it was purchased for, since Cheers is either all or none.
  3. When we cannot use airline tickets, we NEVER cancel anymore...we are just 'no shows' as we refuse to let the airlines keep our ticket $$ then resell our seats and charge a new pax who books our seats - they are 'double dipping'....so we keep the reservation and just don't show up!!

They're still likely reselling your seats, at standby passenger fares.

  4. I served on a grand jury. We met one day a week for eight weeks. We sometimes heard 120+ cases in a day. Police officer, sheriff, drug agent, etc., read the police report and we were allowed to ask questions. When the officer, etc., left the room, we voted to either send to trial or dismiss. During my time in grand jury - we dismissed only one or two cases. There's really no discussion, just voting and majority rules. Hope that clarifies. I personally found serving on grand jury very interesting.
Supporting the old joke that a grand jury would indict a ham sandwich, if the prosecutor asked them to. :p
  5. There won't be a plea deal, they only do that when they're not confident they could get a conviction or they are going for bigger fish so to speak. This one is in the bag. I'm sure he will get a conviction and maximum sentence of the charges pending against him.
Not necessarily true. Plea deals are frequently offered to save the taxpayers the expense of a trial. Especially when Alaska has to pay for a problem inherited from Utah.
  6. The CB had propulsion issues when we cruised on her in July 2008 causing a deviation from the itinerary. Propulsion and other issues have surfaced periodically since that time to the point where we will not cruise on her again.

One would think the propulsion issue would have been successfully addressed in the last nine years.

We experienced delays due to propulsion issues in January 2012. Half a dozen sailings later, she broke down entirely, and passengers who didn't cancel spent a week in the port of San Juan using the ship as a hotel. I can't believe they haven't fixed the problems!
  7. Sailing on Fascination Aug 6. Flying DCA to JAX nonstop on the 6th. Arrival 10:45 am. Carrying on only, no dealing with baggage claim. Getting to pier using Carnival's transfer service. In my head this is plenty of time but all the comments I read on here and on a Facebook Carnival page have me thinking otherwise.

So: if you have had SUCCESS flying in the day of the cruise, please comment here. I know the stories are out there!!Thanks!! :-)

We sailed Carnival out of Miami, flying out of the Midwest in the dead of winter! Like you, we used Carnival to take us from the airport to the pier. The flight ran a bit late, but there were several dozen cruise passengers on it, and the Carnival employee in charge of us assured us we would not be left behind.

You have a direct flight, at a time of year when weather should not be an issue. So you've got good betting odds. Bon voyage!

  8. I forgot to mention one other thing about the Cheers program - as long as you are the only adult (over 21) in the room, you should be able to buy it just for yourself, I think. I would, however, wait until after the ship sails so that they'll know your ex-wife didn't show up. At least I think that'll work.
It's best to wait until after sailing to avoid paying taxes on your drink package, too.
  9. When I was on the repositioning cruise on the Sunshine you were allowed to smoke on one of the sides on the Promenade decks (I think the Port side). I usually went there to read and vape in peace. An ideal place to smoke and vape...covered, a huge area, relaxing and a beautiful view of the ocean. The other side was non-smoking so everyone was happy.

That's how it was on our Caribbean Princess cruise. The joggers still got pissy, though, even though there were plenty of other places for them to run.

Princess banned balcony smoking shortly before we booked, so we got a window suite instead. It was on the same deck as the cigar bar, so DH was happy. I got a huge room and a bathtub, so I was happy. Win-win!

  10. I too don't understand this, it's very patronizing and problematic to treat people of color in the service industry like little children by giving them treats for a job well done. especially when the gesture is really a way for you to appease your guilt at having someone clean up after you all week.

Please point out where in my post I used the word racist?

You were the one who brought color into the discussion. You may not have straight out called the OP racist, but you definitely implied it.
