  1. I carry my prescription meds in a 7 day pill strip, no original bottle, in my shaving kit, in my checked luggage, never had an issue...

You've been lucky. What would you do if the airline lost your luggage and wasn't able to locate it before the start of your cruise?

Prescription medication should always be in your carry on bags.

  2. I too don't understand this, it's very patronizing and problematic to treat people of color in the service industry like little children by giving them treats for a job well done. especially when the gesture is really a way for you to appease your guilt at having someone clean up after you all week.
Wow, way to leap to conclusions! Somebody wants to make a nice gesture, and you call them racist?
  3. How many people carry their passports with them while in port even though the cruise director says that the SeaPass and Photo ID is enough?

Sea pass and photo ID are not enough to get you on an airplane.

    We carry our passports.

  4. I think passports should be free. They are insanely expensive.

When I saw how intricate the new ones are, I was surprised mine wasn't more expensive!

My driver's license renewal just came and Maryland wants almost $40 for a five year period. Given the taxes I'm paying to live here, IMO that's insane!

  5. I got it in writing that they would not leave without us before we went on the belize full day trip - carnival sponsered trip (legend cruise). My dd needs essential meds (that have to be kept cool) that we had to leave on the ship.- Thus I got them to guarantee they would not leave without us.
And I can guarantee there's a limit to how long they would have waited for you. After which you would have found your daughter's meds in an ice chest with the port agent, and your ship long gone. And then they would have made transportation arrangements for you.
  6. If you're on an excursion you purchased through the cruise line and the group has some problems getting back on time the ship will wait on them. That's their biggest selling point.

As far as missing the boat, if you're concerned about it, by all means take the ship's excursions. The ship always waits for them to return.

The ship will wait as long as possible for passengers on ship-sponsored excursions. But the tide waits for no man, and eventually they must depart. At that point the cruise line bears the cost of getting those folks to the next port or home. But don't fool yourself that they won't ever leave you behind, because they might.
  7. The one major plus to cruising is the entertainment factor. Many AI's are practically dead at night, with maybe one show to see and if you're really lucky, they'll have a club with music. This is the area that the multiple entertainment choices on a cruise line shines the brightest.

Depends on your idea of "entertainment". When we go to AIs it's for the scuba diving, and we're in bed long before midnight and up by 7 every morning. We always ask for a room far from the disco. ;)

We've been pretty pleased with the AIs we've stayed at, with the exception of Club Med Turks & Caicos. But I probably shouldn't even include that as 'all-inclusive', because alcohol was not.

  8. Just off a week of misery on the Fascination. To be fair, no the hurricane is not their fault, but the way Carnival handled it is. 20% off of a cruise most first timers will never take is a joke. We were off the coast of Jax and could see lights, but could we dock....no. If we docked a day early the rocking and puking would have stopped, but the casino would of had to close. They were not about to let that happen, so it was money over people, as usual.

What makes you so sure there was space available in the port for the ship to dock?

  9. We suggested a number of things so they would accept them - and talked to tons of people, but they just wouldn't budge. At any rate, I was actually surprised that they would refund all of it (we asked for voucher to another Carnival Corporation Cruise Line, since we know we can take the bikes, but since they didn't seem to be able to do that, this was the option they came up with). I was really interested to give Carnival a try, but I guess now that won't happen for sure, since we almost always take bikes on our cruises.

That's the weirdest part to me- other lines within the corporation allow bicycles; only Carnival cruise line prohibits them.
  10. I think you might be happier on HAL since it's somewhat similar to Princess & still allows smoking on balconies although I'm not sure about cigars.
It's likely we will go back to land-based AI's for the next few vacations. Hubby was very excited to hear about the February cigar festival in the DR. And I like knowing the bar tab is paid upfront!
  11. We bypassed a balcony and chose a window suite when we found out hubby would no longer be able to enjoy his one-a-day cigar on the Princess balconies. While we were conveniently located to the Fiesta deck cigar lounge, it was the only place he was allowed to smoke them. The bar had such insufficient air handlers that I was unable to sit and join him if the bar was full. In an outdoor venue, I would have gladly kept him company. :(

We will not likely choose Princess again. Not so long as other lines continue to allow smoking on the balconies.

  12. We were on the Riviera deck on our Pride cruise of 10/2011 and had a big problem with noise above too. This happened on sea days only, making me think that something was rolling around. I decided not to complain as my husband slept fine through it...maybe it was just me being oversensitive. But it did affect my days. I just got up at dawn, collected a few things and went to lounge at Serenity. When I got up there I thought that maybe others had the same problem. There were people sleeping on the couches near the bar. In fact, there wasn't an open space...cause they did look pretty comfy!

I said that I wouldn't sail Pride again unless it was a Bermuda itinerary but I changed my mind and we'll sail again on her in Nov. to Grand Turk, HMC and Freeport. I booked a cabin on a floor where there are cabins above and below. We'll see what happens.

The three most important things in real estate: location, location, location! When we sailed the Pride we had an aft balcony, 6262. Nothing but cabins above and below. It was completely quiet. Even with a baby in the cabin on one side and honeymooners on the other. :D
  13. On Deck 3- forward- is a very nice area. Hardly anyone goes there...some call it the garden (although all the plants are fake). It's a great place to read a book. I found it by leaving Camp Carnival after dropping off the kids- I just went right down those steps to see what was down there- and there it was...

We discovered it completely by accident while looking for a place to get away from the madding crowd on debarkation morning. Hubby and I had it almost completely to ourselves and read in peace and quiet for more than an hour waiting for our group to be called. Meanwhile everybody else was all jammed up and crabby in the more known public spaces.
