We caught the ceremony mid week at 5pm and thoroughly enjoyed it ! There were only 20-25 of us there to watch. This was last May so perhaps a slow time ??
We had just returned from the acropolis and headed towards the metro station to go back to the ship. But we had time to spare so we thought, what the heck, let's see if we can get to Syntagma Square in time for the 5pm ceremony. It was a unique cultural experience so I was very glad we made the effort.

ok I called Stila which is based at Seatac airport. They are charging this yr $65 to pier 91 and can accomodate up to 9 pax. They have some suburban type vehicles so 5 shouldn't be a problem. You don't need to reserve in advance. Just contact ground transportation once your at the airport.
And $51 from Airport to Pier 91 by Yellow Cab.When I spoke with Yellow Cab last month they quoted me $41 for SeaTac Airport to the Westin Hotel. That was for 2 people. -

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this information. I am the only one with access to the internet, so I have been put "in charge" of planning. I have asked them repeatedly and they just tell me they will be happy with anything I plan - grrrrr. I will check out all of the websites you posted and I appreciate your suggestions. I keep reading that many people prefer booking your own excursions rather than through the cruise line, for both price and size of groups. That sounds like the way to go for us as well. Since there will be six of us, I do want to be mindful of the costs involved. Thank you again for your input.
If the others don't have internet, you could borrow a few Alaska travel books from the library and have them look thru the infornation on each port. There are a couple of books specific to Alaska cruises so it might be worthwhile to buy one and pass it around.

looks like this thread might need another visit to the front page.

thanks a bunch-do you know if there is a link for Ketchikan and Juneau?
A great place to find info on a specific town is to google 'ketchikan visitor information' or ' chamber of commerce' or 'tourism'. Most towns are happy to provide information about sights and activities in order to encourage tourism. Ketchikan has a great walking tour.

nothing new to add, just a bump

Port of Seattle site includes info on parking, left luggage, transportation options, location, etc

Here's a link to the Seattle bus ( Metro Transit) web page. There are several drop downs for more info. It includes info on the West Seattle water taxi and Lake Union street car. http://metro.kingcounty.gov/
A handy feature is the Trip Planner. If you don't know an address, you can often use a popular destination name. IE if you want to go to the Ballard Locks from downtown Seattle, use a common location like 'Westlake Center' as your starting address. The Trip Planner will provide a couple of routes for you, and you can even print a map of the bus route.

yes. but in lieu of that, I'll try to remember to bump it occassionally. (since many people don't seem to look beyond the first page)

You're coming an awfully long way for a one week cruise and a few extra days. I hope you are able to extend it. It would be nice to round out your cruise to a visit to Denali; an entirely different perspective. But you need a day each way to travel and another day or two in the park.
A great resource for the land portion would be tripadvisor.com, Read some trip reports. At the Alaska forum where it says SEARCH, type "trip report" using the quotes. There was a report 2 weeks ago from some Aussies. I think theirs was a 6 week visit and they really packed in the adventures!
Great info for Planning Cruise to Alaska
