I've been permanently locked out of my email account.  I need to replace my new gmail account for CC notifications. I can see it in my profile, but see no way to edit it.  Any help appreciated,

Short answer:  email help@cruisecritic.com  and tell them your username, your old email and your new email addresses.

I’d suggest you look at the list of excursions HAL offers in each Port you are going to.  Write down in order the ones you want and have at least 2 or 3 for each port in case your first choice is gone.  Soon as you get on the ship find out where and what time the excursion opens and go book them immediately.

You usually get a good idea of which excursion is selling out by checking My Bookings.  If your 1st choice is selling out, book it in advance, otherwise wait until departure.  Avoid the line at the EXC desk and book through Navigator as soon as you board.

IF your pre-booked excursions are not fully booked when  you board the ship, you should be able to refund them to "Refundable OBC" and immediately rebook them with "NonRefundable OBC".

I may be reading this incorrectly but it sounds like once onboard, the cancellation refund gets you more OBC.  Additionally, you have to be careful that you cancel in time to avoid a fee.

Cancellations for pre-paid tours are allowed up to 3 days prior to cruise embarkation and will be refunded to the credit card used for the purchase. If within 3 days of embarkation, all changes/cancellations must be done onboard the ship and refunds will be applied to your onboard account. If the credit is not fully utilized during the cruise, the balance will be paid to that passenger by the ship's Purser at the end of the voyage. If cancellation occurs onboard after the cancellation deadline for specific shore excursions, a 100% cancellation fee will apply. The ship's shore excursions office will be able to advise you of the cancellation deadline applicable to each tour. Optional shore excursions during the land portion of a Land & Sea Journey are non-refundable within 3 days of your Land & Sea Journey departure date. Group shore excursions cancelled within three days prior to embarkation (sail) date are nonrefundable. Custom tours may have different cancellation deadlines which will be stated in the proposal. In the rare instance that tours are cancelled by Holland America Line or the tour operator, the full amount will be refunded within four to six weeks after the voyage ends.

Trying to find out WHAT SHIP Casino's allow smoking!!! looked on another thread but someone got snarky and said the posters had to go to this long.............thread and I have read pages and pages and still not had my questions answered.  I hate smoking in the casino's and thought that HAL had banned it.  is there smoking on the Veendam in the Casino still?

My comment referred to the Nieuw Statendam as the previous comments concerned the Nieuw Statendam.  The Nieuw Statendam allows smoking in a section of slot machines.  No smoking at the table games.  I know that the Oosterdam and the Zuiderdam do not have smoking in the casino as I have been on these ships recently.  I will be on the Veendam in 3 weeks and the casino should be non smoking.  I will report back here if different.

Until we see something in writing from HAL (evidence ) it's just people's opinions .

This topic is often discussed here with the same resulting admonishment that you must carry water and soda onto the ship and not place water or soda in your checked luggage.  Unfortunately, that policy is not written in HAL's documents as water and soda are not even mentioned in the 18 page Know Before You Go booklet.  There is a section that deals with "Alcoholic beverages brought on board" and another section "Baggage policies and packing advice".  Neither section mentions water or soda.  I think HAL could easily address this issue if it wanted to and add one sentence to either section in the booklet.

I for one will ask the porters again at Port Everglades in 3 weeks if there are any restrictions prior to checking a bag with bottled water.  They haven't refused it in the past and I suspect they won't again.

Current price of the Behind the Scenes Tour is $99 on the Nieuw Statendam and you no longer get a free cookbook.  The new price makes the tour very attractive but you need to sign up at the Front Desk as soon as you board.

We paid $150 pp on the Nieuw Statendam in October and did not get a cookbook.  ☹️   I will have to see if it is offered on the Veendam in 3 weeks and check the price.

Do you know if it's offered on all ships? Thanks.

Maybe.  Sometimes the tour is announced in the When and Where and other times it appears to be Top Secret.  Go to Guest Services on Day 1 and sign up.  Keep checking to see if they have the minimum amount of passengers to run the tour and what day it may happen.

  8. We did the Behind the Scenes Tour on the Nieuw Statendam in October while on a Med cruise.  Go to Guest Services on Day 1 and sign up.  Cost is $150pp.  We did the tour on a sea day and had a great time.  Took lots of pictures of the Bridge, Engine Control Room, Laundry, Tailor shop and more.  Not able to go to see the actual engines although some have posted that was possible on their tour.

How about on decks 6 & 7 (below the bridge), 9 & 10 (above the bridge)?

On the Vista class ships there is a small forward deck space on decks 5,6,7 and 9.   The only time we used it was for viewing the entrance to the Panama Canal.

But I am thinking more of a shore-based excursion, I guess. You know, take a bus to the glacier and walk out onto it and have a glass of champagne? Doesn't that sound like fun?

It is fun but unfortunately it is in the Canadian Rockies between Banff and Jasper.

These 2 flights come with their own risks: getting to the airport in a timely fashion and making the connections. They are also crazy expensive. I’m a nervous flyer to begin with, and stressing about this might not necessarily be a good thing.

Have you looked at HAL Flight Ease for pricing??  Our airfare for our upcoming August TA cruise through HAL was a great price.

Previously one of the rules was that if you didn’t have the last number called, it wasn’t a good Bingo, split or not. The woman who won did not have the last number called, but she did have previously called numbers that gave her a Bingo.  Several people who play often questioned it but were told it’s a new rule.

OK, got it.  We only play bingo on cruises and the last three cruises didn't have the last number rule.
